ALESSANDRO G. VILLARIN (2009-81750) N-240 Nursing Administration 1 1st Semester, AY 2010-2011 ASSIGNMENT #1.

A STRATEGIC PLAN OF YOUR ORGANIZATION (25%) Rationale Modules 1 to 6 cover the scenario of our local health care delivery systems and the roles of nursing administrators in an organization; the different perspectives in management; theories and models in nursing administration, and the strategic planning process. It is now time to apply what you have learned. Task and Expected Output Develop a strategic plan of the organization (e.g. hospital, clinic, health center, school, etc..) where you are employed utilizing the concepts and models of nursing administration/management and the process of strategic planning. Procedures/Steps

1. Identify the mission, vision, philosophy, goals and objectives, and the structure of your organization and write its implication and relevance to the organization and stakeholders.
Name of Organization Implications to Org/Stakeholders Implication to Organization Mission/ Vision Mission The mission clearly states why the college of Allied Health Sciences exists and its overall purpose- geared to develop students to become skilled, responsible, committed and scientifically competent health care providers. The College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) is geared to develop students to become skilled, responsible, committed and scientifically competent health It also states that the organization does right now. Furthermore, it sets the care providers, locally and globally. parameters of what the CAHS does not do.

ALESSANDRO G. VILLARIN (2009-81750) N-240 Nursing Administration 1 1st Semester, AY 2010-2011 The vision of CAHS articulates the future of the organization and shared Vision by the community it serve. The vision implies the work that needs to be

In short, the mission guides the CAHS in its daily work and the vision inspires the organization to attain the institutional goal. Implication to Stakeholders The internal Stakeholders include the employee, heads and the owners while the external stakeholders include students, parents and the Government or the CHED.

In the part of the employees it is advantageous to review the mission and vision statement of the institution and their personal objectives. If the mission and vision of the institution jive with the employees personal objectives, then it will make a happy employee. Thus, create an effective and efficient intellectual resource.

For the external stakeholders such as the parents and students, it will serve as a guide in choosing the right academic institution for the realization of their academic goals.

Philosophy

Still Under Discussion

The written philosophy of the College of Allied Health Sciences is a necessary guide for the leaders in the department to face continuing as well as unexpected problems requiring decisions that are consistent and straight forward. The formulation and growth of philosophy that will guide the department of nursing will bring the Dean, level chairs, clinical instructors, staff and students to believe something or to achieve something together.

In a sense, a philosophy is as much like a diamond-it is three dimensional, with multitude of facets reflects one aspect of the total and represents something to which one can commit oneself and be able to live with day by day and decision to decision.

When the members of the has a good understanding of the philosophy of the department, hidden uncertainties regarding the value of ones goals and actions are greatly reduced and thus the decision making process is enhanced. Thus formulation of the philosophy of the College of Allied Health Sciences is imperative.

ALESSANDRO G. VILLARIN (2009-81750) N-240 Nursing Administration 1 1st Semester, AY 2010-2011 Goals and Objectives Objectives: There are three specific objectives of the CAHS. However the objectives 1. To inculcate the ethics of a health care professional. 2. To put quality service to mankind as the priority in the profession. The absence of the CAHS written goals does not provide the organization 3. To develop among the students precision, accuracy and professional honesty with the blueprint that determines the course of action and aids in preparing the future changes in the college. do not indicate the short term target and the measurable results.

This implies that there is a need for a written clearly defined goals and a review of the present objectives of the CAHS. Without Clearly Defined goals and objectives, the organization will have trouble coordinating activities and forecasting future events.

According to Baine and Griffin (2007), organizational goals serve four basic functions; they provide guidance and direction, facilitate planning, motivate and inspire employees and help organizations evaluate and control performance.

ALESSANDRO G. VILLARIN (2009-81750) N-240 Nursing Administration 1 1st Semester, AY 2010-2011 Structure of the organization The College of Allied Health Sciences organizational is structured using a hierarchy. 2. Do a SWOT Analysis. Assess the environment of your organization to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) Analysis Base on the Data gathered on the status of the College of Allied Health Sciences and the CHED Memorandum No. 14, Series of 2009 policies and Standards for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program, the following have been found using the SWOT Analysis. Strengths 1. The Northwestern University (Formerly Northwestern College) is the first educational institution north of La Union to offer Bachelor of Science in Nursing and still existing until this time. 2. Professionally qualified and committed Dean of the Allied Health Sciences. 3. One hundred percent (100%) of the faculty members of the Department of Nursing are on full-time status. 4. The strong linkage of the university with various institutions such as local, regional and national government, non-governmental organizations and international agencies provide an opportunity for the strong immersion of the students to real experiences. 5. The university is offering holistic development in academics as well as values reformation and cultural improvements. 6. The university facility is hospitable for the ever evolving technological paradigm because of the availability of laboratories such as e-learning. 7. Functional facility within a well developed campus for varied activities of the CAHS. Weaknesses 1. Fast turnover of clinical instructors that affect faculty performance, thus prevent the CAHS from implementing strategies that achieve its mission. 2. The decreasing enrolment of the CAHS contributes to the decreasing budget of the college and caused inability to finance charges. 3. Under developed research culture is a concern. Faculty members cannot regularly come up with researches. 7

ALESSANDRO G. VILLARIN (2009-81750) N-240 Nursing Administration 1 1st Semester, AY 2010-2011 4. The CAHS has low post-graduate faculty members percentage. 5. Lack of interest of faculty members for faculty scholarship. 6. Low passing rate in the Philippine Nurses Licensure Examinations. Opportunities 1. The Northwestern University is the only private university Ilocos Norte offering Masters of Arts in Nursing for the continuous professional education of the clinical instructors in the College of Allied Health and Sciences and other institution. 2. The Northwestern University College of Arts and Sciences as the umbrella of Nursing Department is an avenue of adding new course offerings in the university. Thus there is diversity of related products. 3. The attractive Advertisement in the television and the website of the university is an opportunity for increasing market growth. 4. Opportunities for Online Education. 5. Open Partner industry linkages that will be utilized for the on the job training programs of students. 6. International and off-campus study and exchange programs 7. Opening new course offerings for diversity into related courses. Threats 1. The decreasing enrolment in the College of Allied of Heath Sciences consequently affects the budget to sustain and maintain development of the college . 2. Fast-pace technology; Educational technology are changing so rapidly that they may become obsolete or outdated by the time university administrators purchase them. 3. The Philippines as the number 1 exporter of nurses in the United States is affected by the closure of the US to nurses employment.
