COMAH - Demystifying COMAH - A Basic Introduction


HSL is to run a 1 day course on COMAH Demystifying COMAH - A Basic Introduction. 28 February 2013 Introduction This course is about the fundamental principles behind the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations (COMAH). It has been designed to provide duty-holders with an understanding of COMAH and in doing so it removes the veil of mystery that at times appears to shroud these regulations. The course introduces the concept of 'compliant demonstration' and provides an overview of what the COMAH Competent Authority is looking for. It will also explain the remodeled COMAH regime and the national strategic inspection topics. The course is particularly targeted at lower tier COMAH operators but will also provide valuable background for top tier operators. The course will cover: Major accident hazards and the need for risk assessment Major hazard controls, including: Technical controls (e.g. automatic shut-off valves) Safety management systems Human factor controls (e.g. competency management systems) What to expect from inspections, including: The type of vauable communication that take place between the Competent Authority and duty-holders to demonstrate that the necessary, effective and appropriate controls are in place. National inspection topics COMAH guidance and sources of information that exist to support dutyholders in fulfilling their legalobligations. Who should attend? Safety professionals, managers and supervisors who have responsibilities for managing or implementing major accident controls and may be involved in dealing with the COMAH Competent Authority during inspections. Consultants who provide assistance with COMAH. Venue The course will be run at the HSL laboratory in the spa town of Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good links to mainline train stations and Manchester International Airport. This course can be run at your site or local area by arrangement. Cost The cost of the course is 425 per person(includes course notes, lunch and refreshments).
