AMERICORPS VOLUNTEER POSITION


Outreach Support Position

PORTLAND YOUTHBUILDERS
Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a two year alternative high school and job training program with the mission to
support low-income young adults, ages 17-24, who are committed to changing their lives to become selfsufficient, contributing members of the workforce and their community. At PYB, students complete high school
with a GED or diploma and develop marketable employment skills by learning to build affordable housing from
the ground up or learning to refurbish computers and develop websites for non-profits. All PYB students have
the opportunity to serve as part-time AmeriCorps members and earn an AmeriCorps Education Award.
POSITION SUMMARY
The person in this position will assist the Admissions Department to raise awareness about PYBs services by
cultivating and maintaining relationships with community organizations and agencies and coordinating
outreach projects. In addition, the person in this position will assist PYB applicants through the admissions
process and identify community resources helpful to applicants and students. Communication, organization
and attention to detail are important qualities for this position.
Responsibilities:
o Develop and maintain relationships with referral partners including community organizations
o Attend community events to increase awareness of PYBs services
o Greet applicants, assist with tours, and program informational sessions
o Support individuals through applications process, under supervision of Admissions and Outreach
Coordinator
o Coordinate special events including community service activities
o Assist in development and implementation of outreach strategies.

AmeriCorps monthly living stipend of $1050 plus AmeriCorps Education Award of
$5,550 upon completion of 1700 hours of service. Qualified to enroll in no-cost
medical coverage available through AmeriCorps

QUALIFYING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications:
GED/High School Diploma
Bachelors degree preferred
AmeriCorps eligible
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of settings including experience with public speaking
and strong written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to coordinate and successfully complete projects
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred
