Application Instructions for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination
The following instructions will assist you in completing your application for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) examination. Proper attention to details will help avoid delays in processing and will expedite final review of your application. Failure to completely and properly fill out the application form will not only cause delays but may result in the inability to qualify for the PE exam. Who is Eligible to Apply Applicants must: Be a graduate of a four-year engineering program from an Egyptian or United States college or university which resulted in a bachelor of engineering or science degree (a copy of your college transcript reflecting the degree which was awarded must be provided with your application) Have taken and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination Be a resident of Egypt. Egyptian citizenship is not required Have a minimum of four years of progressive engineering experience subsequent to receiving a bachelors degree (see description on reverse for the definition of acceptable experience). Other applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Processing of Applications Through an agreement between the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) and The American University In Cairo, eligible candidates will complete and file their applications and exam-related fees with AUC. AUC will provide assistance to candidates as needed to complete the applications and prequalify applicants. Qualified applicants must complete the on-line registration process in order to be seated for the examination. Approximately two to three weeks prior to the exam administration date, applicants registered through the NCEES Web site are e-mailed notification to log in to their exam account at the Web site and print a copy of their exam authorization to gain entrance to the exam site. Fees The total fees for the PE Exam are $1,000 US or LE 6,000. The fees cover registration for the exam and vetting of credentials, sitting for the PE exam and receiving exam results. Application Deadlines Application materials and required fees must be submitted to AUC no later than January 30 for the spring exam administration and July 19 for the fall exam administration.

Application Instructions for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination
Exam Results NCEES will provide AUC with written notification of an applicants exam results. AUC will provide applicants with the results of their examination. This information will also be retained by NCEES and available for confirmation upon written request by the applicant, AUC, or a member board of NCEES. All exam result scores will be reported as pass/fail and no numerical scores will be provided. Progressive Engineering Experience The following describes engineering experience that is deemed to be acceptable in qualifying to take the Principles and Practice (PE) Examination as defined in the NCEES Model Rules: 1. 2. 3. Experience must be progressive on engineering projects to indicate that it is of increasing quality and requiring greater responsibility. Only work of an engineering nature which follows graduation is creditable. Experience gained in the military, to be creditable, must be of a character equivalent to that which would have been gained in the civilian sector doing similar work. Normally, it would be expected that the applicant while in the military served in an engineering or engineeringrelated group. Experience should be gained under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer or, if not, an explanation should be made showing why the experience should be considered acceptable. Experience gained under the technical supervision of an unlicensed individual may be considered if the appropriate credentials of the unlicensed supervisor are submitted to the board. For sales experience to be creditable, it must be demonstrated that engineering principles were required and used in gaining the experience. Teaching experience, to be creditable, must be in engineering or engineering-related courses at an advanced level in a college or university offering an engineering program of four years. Experience gained in engineering research and design projects by members of an engineering faculty is creditable. Successful completion of graduate study leading to the masters degree in engineering which has followed a baccalaureate degree in engineering may be used for credit for one years experience. If the PhD program in engineering is completed under the same conditions, two years total experience may be credited. The two years credit includes the one year for the masters degree. If the PhD is obtained without the masters degree, the credit for experience may be two years. Experience may not be anticipated. The experience must have been gained by the time of the application.

10. Experience in construction, to be creditable, must demonstrate the application of engineering principles. 11. Experience should include demonstration of knowledge of engineering mathematics, physical and applied science, properties of materials and the fundamental principles of engineering design. 12.
