Academic Director Alexandra Corrente

Hi everyone! For those of you who I have not yet had the opportunity to meet, my name is Alexandra Corrente and I am running to be your next Academic Director. With years of experience on several executive committees at McMaster University, including one in which I served as a liaison for students, I have gained the skills and experience necessary to best serve you as Academic Director. With our new Dean and the restructuring of our MBA program already in the works, it is important that the voice of students be accurately represented. After speaking with students, current Academic Directors, and administration, I have designed a platform to address the current and foreseeable needs of students as we head into this exciting time of change. My platform focuses on improving communication between students and the Academic Director, working towards a more experiential learning environment, and improving the course evaluation process. 1) Improve communication with students Better clarify the role of Academic Director and the procedure for raising concerns so that students understand how their issues can be dealt with. Hold well-publicized office hours with an open-door policy. The office hours will be offered at alternating times so as to best accommodate all students. Conduct a less formal meeting before Town Hall so student concerns can be addressed more promptly. Continue with my efforts to establish a relationship with EVERY student so that all students feel comfortable approaching me with concerns. 2) More experiential learning Work towards integrating more case studies into the curriculum. Continue with efforts to establish an annual Case Competition at DeGroote that will host teams from business schools across the country. Work towards introducing online components to courses so that class time can be spent developing skills that will make us more market-ready graduates. 3) Improve the course evaluation process Provide greater incentives for the completion of course evaluations so that a more accurate representation of students' opinions can be obtained and areas of concern can be addressed more urgently. Increase the transparency of evaluation results and how they will affect the delivery of the course moving forward. Thank you for taking the time to read my platform. I hope I have been able to connect with you on my goals for better communication, learning, and feedback. After four years at McMaster, I can say that I love this university and I want you to feel the same way. With your vote, I will do whatever I can to make sure that your academic experience, and your overall experience, here at DeGroote are positive ones. I encourage you to email me at correnac@mcmaster.ca with any questions or concerns you have and visit www.facebook.com/Alexa4AD to participate in ongoing discussions.
