BUILDING BRIDGES TO DISCOVER

Synopsys and Agastya International Foundation with S.S.A. are organising "Anveshana 2013 - A Science & Engineering Fair" which will provide a platform for Engineering College Students to interact and mentor Government School
children and also address the systemic problems of the society by innovative methods.
Objective To develop innovation and creativity among students from engineering colleges and nearby schools in Karnataka. To provide an opportunity for engineering students to mentor school children while they design the models. To bridge the knowledge gap between schools and higher education through integration of ideas. To develop new models and TLM's using Engineering skills, which can be used in the future by Agastya Team, to teach children and teachers among the disadvantaged sections of the society Process: Engineering students will collaborate with high school students to create innovative models, thus establishing scaffolding links between them. Students will create knowledge networks with resource persons to develop conceptual and methodological framework to design the models. Establishment of links between colleges and schools and other prominent institutions like Indian Institute of Science, Institution of Engineers, Indian Institute Technology etc. First of all I am very very impressed. Not because of their scientific knowledge. Science can be learned. But the Youngsters are able to come in to an organisation like this and demonstrate something in front of a large group of people. Youngsters are the future of India. We have to make them better and Agastya is trying to do that. Dr. V.K. Aatre
Scientist and Former head of DRDO (on Anveshana 2012)

Expected Outcomes: Over 100 ideas to be generated. Creation of over 100 ideas of which 40 would be short listed for final prototyping and evaluation. 80 School Students will undergo direct training in model making thus improving their design skill, conceptualization of topics and leadership skills. In addition, they will imbibe soft skills viz. 'Team Work, Communication', thus improving their confidence levels. 160 Engineering Students from over 40 Engineering Colleges will be provided with the unique opportunity of mentoring children. 1000 School Students will get exposed to model making concepts while understanding the link between concepts learned in the classroom, associated learning methodologies and practical application. 200 Engineering Students from different colleges will be exposed to the models and will participate in discussions. Participating students will imbibe a questioning spirit and research orientation. Increased social awareness among engineering students as they gear up for a professional life.
