Chapter 1 The Problem and Its background Introduction The idea of this research is very common conserving energy

, speaking of conserving energy, we actually conserve the quality not the quantity of energy meaning converting other forms of energy to electricity. Electricity which is the highest quality of energy and thermal energy which is the lowest quality of energy, and the reason why we conserve energy is to reduce its environmental impact due to energy conversion and other related problems, but what was actually humans do to conserve energy, by using Engineering principles. They built Power Plants which converts other forms of energy such us chemical (combustion of coal), mechanical (flowing stream of water), and etc. to electricity. Some common power plants that are actually consistently operated in different countries are Hydro Power Plants, this is done by extracting mechanical energy of the fluid directly by the use of turbine to rotate the shaft of the generator and produce electricity, Steam Power Plants this is operated by combustion of coal in order to boil the water in the boiler compartment hereby produce steam or vapor which in turns to run the turbine and generator to produce electricity and Wind Mills Power Plant this is actually similar to Hydro Power Plants but the operating fluid is now air instead of water, this is done by extracting mechanical energy of moving air by striking through the blades of the Wind Mills and rotate it and hereby produce electricity, Geothermal Power plants this is actually built near volcanoes, the operation of this power plant is similar to steam power plant except for that the energy use to boil the water is a natural heat

comes from the earth core, other Power Plants that are recently use today in the more advance countries like USA, Japan, Germany, France, are the Nuclear Power Plants and etc. One of the common source of energy that we can harnessed from earth is from wind, like the way I say recently energy from the wind can be gathered by the use of wind turbines, wind farms in the world is increasing rapidly because of the high demand for renewable energy this is because of the of the scarcity of fuel oil and the call for green environment and wind turbine is one of the promising technology, but what was actually wind turbine is, well let me defined it to you operationally this is a fanlike machine that extracts energy of moving air, the energy in a moving air is what we called kinetic energy, as the wind strikes the wind turbines, the turbines convert the motion of the wind to rotational motion which in turns rotates the stator of the generator and thereby producing electricity, thats how a simple wind turbines work, of course in real world application wind turbine design is rather more complex than what you think of it. Wind turbines are actually comes into many types, generally they are classified according to their axis of rotation such that they can be a vertical or horizontal axis wind turbine and this turbine is further classified into many categories. The focus of these research limited only in the design of small scale wind turbines as the title of this paper suggest.

Statement of the Problem The study is intended to achieve the following: 1. Does this wind turbine can be used for minor applications supply of electricity? 2. Does this wind turbine can help to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses? Can be used as an alternative source of electricity? Objectives of the Study General Objective To be able to generate output power that can be utilized for energy consumption. Specific Objectives 1. To developed wind turbines which can be installed within the houses of remote areas, which the supply of electricity is complicated. 2. To test the device effectiveness in terms of accuracy and reliability.

Significance of the Study This research aims to show and make wind turbines that can be used as an alternative source of electricity for home use, especially in the remote area location where electricity is not readily available, it also aims to produce electricity in which it is not sacrificing our environment. The power generation that can be extract from the

wind can be used to light small bulbs, charge cellphones and many others which are a useful. The following are various sectors of society which would benefit this research: Residential Community one of the main concern of this research is the people living in the remote areas where electricity is not readily available. Developers and Researchers those people who get much off this interest would have an idea for future development.

Scope and Limitation of the Study The development of this wind turbine which was a working prototype benefits those people in the residential community, this will be a useful equipment for powering small light bulbs that has low voltage, especially during emergency purpose this turbine can be installed in atop of the roof houses where an enough wind is present to turn the turbine blades it is a small version of huge wind turbines that we actually seen in the wind farms it has three blades, efficient generator, foundation and battery where electricity will be stored.
