Task 1 I was assigned to carry out my school based experience at Sekolah Kebangsaan Senai.

The school is situated in the urban area, but the level of proficiency of the students is moderate. I observed standard 3 Excellent. The topic for the week was Fresh fruits. The students were using KSSR as their curriculum. The lesson for the day focused on listening and speaking skills.

The class was carried out by Mrs Renga, the Head of English department, SK Senai. First of all when she entered the classroom, she greeted the students. Before starting the lesson, she requested the students to clean up their class room and rearrange their tables in the correct manner. Then, she asked the pupils about the day and date. Students spelled the day as a class and the teacher written down the day on the left of the whiteboard. The lesson started with the set induction. The most effective ways to present a set induction is by using teaching aids, related situation to the lesson, motivation, questioning technique, revision of related topic and many more. The teacher used a box to hide the objects. Then, the teacher asked the students to guess the object in the boxes by shaking the boxes and she gave some hints regarding the object. As an example the teacher described a fruit as follows: I am green in colour with black stripes. My flesh is red or yellow in colour. My seeds are tiny and black. I am a juicy fruit. Peoples like to make me into juice during sunny day. At last the students managed to guess the hidden object. The objects were a banana and an apple.

After the set induction, Mrs Renga introduced the topic of the day, which is fresh fruits. The topic was written on the white board by the teacher and she asked the students to spell it out. Later, the teacher requested the students to list down the names of fruits on the white board. The teacher asked the students to spell and read out the names of the fruits which is written on the white board as a class and individually. Spelling is definitely worthwhile to help children hear the sounds in words by developing phonemic awareness, then exploring sound or symbol relationships and spelling patterns.

At the same time, the teacher taught the students about singular and plural nouns by giving them some examples based on fruits. As an example: Apple and Apples. Then, Mrs Renga read and gave description about few fruits verbally. Students tried to guess the fruits using the descriptions. Sweets were given to students who guessed correctly as a token of appreciation. After the activities the teacher requested the pupils to refer the textbook. The teacher explained the fruits in the textbook. The teacher asked the students to work in pairs by carrying out question and answer session to each other which is based on the textbook. The teacher described several fruits and pupils number in the activity book. After that, teacher requested the pupils to colour the pictures. She also stressed on the importance of eating fruits.

Before ending the class, she concluded the lesson that has been learnt by the students for that day. She asked the pupils to recall back the names of the fruits and the features of the fruits. Before leaving the classroom students thank Mrs Renga and also to the God for the wonderful day.
