A PROPOSAL ON A FINAL YEAR PROJECT CPE 503 & 504

NAME: ABEGUNDE, Omolayo MATRIC NO: CSC/2009/001 SUPERVISOR: MR. Akinade O.O. DATE: 17/04/2013 UNIVERSAL MICROCONTROLLER PROJECT TEST BOARD FOR PICs USED IN MICROPROGRAMMING AND EMBEDDED CONTROLLERS

TOPIC:

Background: PIC refers to an extensive family of Microcontrollers manufactured by Microchip technology. A microcontroller is a microprocessor which has I/O circuitry and Peripherals built-in, allowing it to interface more or less directly with real-world devices such as lights, switches, sensors and motors. They simplify the design of logic and control systems, allowing complex (or simple!) behaviors to be designed into a piece of electronic of electromechanical equipment. They represent an approach which draws on both electronic design and programming skills; an intersection of what was once two disciplines, and is now called EMBEDDED SYSTEM FUNCTION OF THE PIC MICROCONTROLLER TEST BOARD

TEST PIC FOR MICROCNTROLLER

Construct and test the PIC devices before integrating

Learning programs for PIC microcontroller

TEST BOARD FOR PIC FOR MICROCONTROLLER

Test and develop the new future resolves

Connect LCD, Graphics display

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Many project implementations require the use of a microcontroller, however the development of a Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) Test Board is often beyond the expertise and available time of the design team, most projects are usually tested and implemented using

a simulator(software), but this project will make it possible for students in CPE409 or other fields of electronics to write and test each project designed without the need of designing the hardware implementation separately to see whether the project is working or not and this will aid their learning to move fast beyond what they are expecting

DESIGN OBJECTIVES Design and implement a board to enable future senior design teams to quickly and easily use a PIC solution in their projects Flexible Easy to use Cost Efficient

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Microchip 16F877/16F877A based solution Character LCD Display 7 Segment Displays(multiplexed display) Temperature Sensor Speaker 4 X 4 keypad 5 X 7 Text Display LED Light Display

RELATED WORKS PIC Evaluation / Development Board by (Berg, et al, 2002) ECpE Department

PROJECT METODOLOGY The existing project for PIC Evaluation Board were closely studied. Relate information was also gathered from the past projects been reviewed. Other similar information was also gathered from books, internet, and some other relevant materials. The design of the layout of this project will be done through the use of some software (Proteus and CC S Compiler), C programming language will be use to develop some of the examples that will be demonstrated in this project

JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY The importance of PIC microcontroller test board cannot be over emphasized in the area of

Microcontroller and Microprocessor including the area of Embedded System, this project will enable other students to develop their project in time without the need of constructing an hardware were their project can be tested after each design and implementation

CONCLUSION The use of Microcontroller test board is important for future design for students in the embedded system, which will be their focus in some areas like Electronics, Real Time Embedded Systems e.t.c
