Dearly beloved friends in the renewal:

I greet you all with the joy of the Lord! Welcome to the 15th National
Convention of the Alliance of Filipino Catholic Charismatic Prayer
Communities. As we gather for this convention, may you experience the
inspiration and guidance of the same Spirit which guided the prophet
Isaiah when he wrote many centuries before us . . The Spirit of the Lord
is upon me. (Isaiah 61:1).

Congratulations to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Team for hosting this event, headed by Agnes Ne-
pomuceno and Fr. Louis Olive. I am cognizant of the tedious task that you and your team are un-
dertaking in running a convention such as this which demands sacrifices and prayers. Moreover, I
am certain that the Spirit of the Lord is upon you and us to bring to a wholesome end what you
have began laboring in the Lord.

There is no better way to conclude the Year of Saint Paul than for the AFCCPC Family assembled
here for this Convention to echo the prevaling words of the prophet . . . The Spirit of the Lord is
upon me. Saint Paul unrelentingly preached the good news of salvation, in season and out of sea-
son, even to the point of endangering his own life, yet eternally focused on the task Jesus had given
him on the road to Damascus . . I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting (Acts 9:5). Upon his conver-
sion, Paul was never the same again because the Spirit of the Lord was now upon him.

I pray for everyone during this Spirit-filled weekend and ask that you listen to the many talks pre-
pared for you and take them to heart. Share your faith journey with others for when two or three are
gathered in His name, Jesus is in their midst and His Spirit is upon them. Thank you all for your
presence. May we all continue to grow in the Lord. No mater what crises and challenges we may
encounter along the path to righteousness and holiness, always remember the comforting words of
Jesus . . My grace is sufficient for you (2 Cor. 12:9).

With my best wishes & blessings,

Fr. Ramon G. Valera

The Office of the National Coordinator

June 26, 2009

Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord,

On behalf of the Alliance of Filipino Catholic Charismatic Prayer

Communities (AFCCPC ), I welcome you to our 15th National
Convention and to the beautiful City of Baltimore, MD.

The theme of this Convention which is “The Spirit of the Lord God is
Upon Me,” taken from Isaiah 61:1, is indeed very fitting. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us
strength and life, wisdom and knowledge and power, love, joy, and peace. It is He who
draws us closer to Jesus and gives us faith that can move mountains. It is the Holy Spirit, the
Advocate, who will make us become more like Jesus in every way. He is the Comforter and
the Paraclete, the uncreated Power of God.

As we gather this weekend, let us invoke the Holy Spirit to continue to pour out on us the
Grace of Pentecost in the same way that He did to the 120 people who were gathered in the
Upper Room 2,000 years ago. We claim by faith that the Convention Center here in
downtown Baltimore is the “Upper Room” this weekend during our Convention.

Let us continue to rejoice because our Heavenly Father has gathered us this weekend in
order for us to hear His words, to receive His healing touch, and to equip us so that we can
continue to do the works that He called us to do for His glory.
Have a Blessed and fruitful Convention!

God bless you all!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with humble humility that the Mid-Atlantic Region brings the 15th
AFCCPC National Convention to you. “The treasure we possess in
earthen vessels to make it clear that its surpassing power comes from
God and not from us.” 2 Cor 4:7 “Because we possess this ministry
through God‟s mercy, we do not give into discouragement” 2 Cor 4:1
We cannot take full credit for this undertaking. This is God‟s work!

We are so grateful to God for finding the Mid-Atlantic Region worthy to

plan and prepare for this conference inspite of our weaknesses and
shortcomings. Now, we are convinced more than ever that we can do
all things through God who strengthen us!

Hello my dear friends in Christ:

Praise be to God,our Father Almighty, who has done great things

for us!

On behalf of our prayer community, the Joy in the Spirit of the

Lord, we send our sincerest gratitude to all of you present here at
the 15th AFCCPC National Conference. We are so blessed to be chosen to host this Spirit-
Filled event where all of us come together as one body in Christ .

The AFCCPC through the anointed leadership of Bro. Bob Canton had played a very impor-
tant role in our prayer community. We had experienced the love of God and His constant
presence in our daily lives.

What a wonderful and joyful experience it is to labor for the glory of God, our All in all.
The past two years of planning and preparation had increased our wisdom in our spiritual
journey , had honed our character to be good followers of Christ and definitely increased
our faith. It had opened our eyes to see what really matters in this earthly life.

„The Spirit of the Lord is upon me..”

We pray that as you leave to go back to your daily duties , that the Holy Spirit will light up
your life and remain in you always. May the people around you see God in you!

God bless us all!

June 26, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is a greet pleasure to greet you all on the occasion of

your National Conference at the Baltimore Convention
Centre. As the President of ICCRS (International
Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services) I personally
send you good wishes and I also assure you of the love
and prayers of all the staff at the ICCRS office in Rome.
We are united in prayer with you from the heart of the
Church.

It is a great blessing for us to have Br Bob Canton as one of our ICCRS Councillors. He
is a faithful servant of the Lord and has done so much to serve the Catholic Charismatic
Renewal throughout the world. Through him, we at ICCRS are delighted to have a
strong link with the Alliance of Filipino Catholic Charismatic Prayer Communities. We
thank God for your enthusiasm and joy and pray that you continue to grow strong and
mature in the Lord through gatherings such as this wonderful conference.

The theme of your gathering, Isaiah 61:1 „the Spirit of the Lord is upon me‟ is truly
inspired. Isaiah presents this as the mission of the prophet. We know that this text was
also pivotal in the life of Jesus. After his baptism when Jesus was filled with the Spirit,
he was then led by the Spirit and encountered temptation in the desert. After he had
triumphed over the evil one he returned to Galilee with the power of the Spirit in him.
When he proclaimed these words of Isaiah in the synagogue in Nazareth he declares
his missionary manifesto and begins his public ministry.

My prayer for all the participants gathered for the conference in Baltimore is that you
too would receive a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit and be strengthened for the
mission to which God is calling you. May you all receive a new strength and confidence
and be empowered to take what you receive back to your home situations.

May God bless, inspire and protect you, with all good wishes,

Dear brothers and sisters,

Blessings and all the best from the ICCRS Office in

Rome.!

It is a joy for me to have this opportunity to greet in the

name of Jesus all of you participants to the AFCCPC 15th National Conven-
tion in Baltimore.

I love the theme that you have chosen for the Convention: "The Spirit of the
Lord is upon me" (Isaiah. 61:1).This "word" is really true for all among us
that have done a real experience of the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit is "upon"
you everything is new in your life: even if you are tired you have strength,
even if you are afraid you become courageous, even if you are poor, can give
much, even if you are suffering you give joy to your neighbors.

The Holy Spirit is what we need to be alive!

I pray for each of you for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit during these
days.

15th National Convention

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

May the love of God the Father be with all of you today and always!

It is again a great blessing to be asked to send this greeting to the National Convention of the Alli-
ance of Filipino Catholic Charismatic Prayer Communities as you gather for your 15th National Con-
vention. On behalf of the National Service Committee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal I want
to greet all the participants and speakers, among whom is Fr. Richard Loch, Chairman of the Na-
tional Service Committee.

Your theme “Holy Spirit Descend Upon Me”, taken from the prophet Isaiah‟s “The Spirit of the
Lord is upon me” (61:1), which was so significantly repeated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he first
stood up in the synagogue in Nazareth before he was rejected (see Lk 4:16-30), is vitally important.
We too must rely in new and deeper ways upon the Holy Spirit for the witness we must give in these
days and times.

I know that your coming together will be a time of fellowship and communion with the Lord and
one another. May it also be a time to reflect more deeply on the challenges we face and the call to
evangelize.

As our beloved Pope John Paul II wrote to us, “We must revive in ourselves the burning conviction
of Paul, who cried out : „Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel‟ (1 Cor 9:16)….The missionary
mandate accompanies us into the Third Millennium and urges us to share the enthusiasm of the very
first Christians: we can count on the power of the same Spirit who was poured out on Pentecost…
(Rom 5:5)” (Novo Millennio Ineunte 40, 58)

Be renewed, be empowered and then go forth in His Name.

In Jesus, our Hope,

Walter Matthews

Dear Charismatic Community:

As Spiritual Director of the Joy in the Spirit Prayer

Group, I welcome you to the 15th National Charismatic Con-
vention! Indeed, I welcome you all to Baltimore, Maryland.
The Spirit of the Lord is really present among us.
The theme, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me (Isaiah
61)” has been providentially chosen by the Holy Spirit through
Bro. Bob Canton. We have tried to develop all the talks and
workshops around that theme. I find it coming together beautifully. I find the talks and workshops
very practical and hopefully we can get much out of them.
We have developed the theme around the three feasts of the Blessed Mother we are celebrating
these days namely, the FEAST OF OUR LADY OF KNOCK (Ireland); FEAST OF OUR MOTHER
OF PERPETUAL HELP; AND THE FEAST OF THE VIRGIN OF ANTIPOLO. The Holy Spirit
was especially upon the Blessed Mother and we hope that through her the Holy Spirit will come
upon you and your family.
We have spirit-filled speakers. We are especially happy to have Bishop Tagle and Bishop Mad-
den here with us. We know that the Holy Sprit will speak powerfully, loudly and prophetically
through them and all our speakers. We know you will give them your closest attention.
We ask you not to forget to celebrate the Sacrament of Confession with any priest who is walk-
ing around, they are here for you. Also, the Blessed Sacrament is in the Prayer Room on the 3rd
floor. Please do not leave the LORD alone.
We have really worked hard to make this Convention a success! I myself witnessed with love
the typing of labels and sticking them on your envelopes. I noticed the long hours of work of our
prayer group. Thanks to them and we hope you enjoy the fruits of our work!
Finally, let the Holy Spirit be upon us this weekend. Let Mother Mary be with us. Let charity
reign. They say, “Baltimore is what it‟s all about.” We say, “The Holy Spirit is what it‟s all about.”
May He be in our Hearts in a Special Way this Weekend!

Sincerely,

Your Spiritual Director,

Fr. Louis Olive, CSs.R

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Let me extend a warm Baltimore welcome to all of you

attending this 15th National AFCCPC Conference. I am a
Permanent Deacon here in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and
a Spiritual Advisor for the AFCCPC.

Those AFCCPC regional and national conferences I have attended in the past have been
a rich source of blessing for all attendees. I pray that this 2009 national conference will be a
powerful, even life-changing experience for those who make the sacrifice to be here and
receive the Lord‟s transforming touch.

Our conference theme, “The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me” [Is 61:1], is appropriately
chosen. With the 2009 Feast of Pentecost occurring less than 30-days ago, we recall with
excitement that first Pentecost when the Lord poured out the fire of His Spirit on all flesh
and the transformation of the world began with new faith, new hope, new love and new
spiritual gifts. I believe the desire of God‟s heart is to once again pour out His Spirit upon
us at this conference—to give us power from on high.

What do we do with this power? We go! We proclaim, “Jesus is Lord!” We become His
witnesses! We build His Kingdom. We strengthen His Kingdom. We extend His Kingdom.
We bring glory, honor and praise to His holy and redeeming name!

May the Lord richly bless you all as you experience the manifestations of His Kingdom
here in Baltimore.

Your brother in Christ,

Conference of the Philippines, on the Commission on the Doctrine of the Faith and Commission

ter the worlds and languages of its listeners and from within them to tell Jesus‟ story just like at
Pentecost “

Fr. Ramon Valera is a priest of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. His former diocese was in the
Philippines. He was ordained to the priesthood by Pope Paul VI on June 29, 1975 at the St.
Peter‟s Basilica in Rome, Italy. He is a graduate from the UST Pontifical Central Seminary in
Manila, Philippines, where he completed his seminary formation with a Licentiate Degree in
Sacred Theology. His first 20 years in the priesthood were spent in his home diocese in the
Philippines in various capacities as: seminary professor, prefect of discipline, procurator, music
instructor, associate pastor, and pastor/parish priest in 1980. Fr. Ramon came to Los Angeles
in 1992 upon the invitation to work in the archdiocese of Los Angeles. His first assignment was
associate pastor at Holy Family parish in Artesia. In 1997 he was appointed to St. Mel Parish in
Woodland Hills where he served as associate pastor for seven years. Upon his incardination
into the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Fr. Ramon became Administrator and then pastor of St.
Cyprian Parish in Long Beach, California. Fr. Ramon is currently associate pastor at Our Lady
of Lourdes Parish in Northridge, California. He coordinates the Filipino American Catholic Re-
newal Communities (FACRC, a group of prayer groups under the auspices of the Archdioce-
san Filipino Ministry) every third Mondays of the Month where he gives leadership training and
teachings to prayer group leaders and elders. Fr. Ramon is the incumbent Head Sheperd of
the Alliance of Filipino Catholic Charismatic Prayer Communities for North America. Fr. Ramon
is also a yearly speaker at the SCRC (Southern California Charismatic Renewal Communities)
held at the Anaheim Convention Center, California. Being a priest for almost 34 years now,
and his involvement with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal since 1978 as a young priest, Fr.
Ramon continues to joyfully and tirelessly minister to everyone in the vineyard of the Lord.
Whether celebrating mass, or visiting the sick and the homebound, or giving challenging and
down-to-earth homilies and talks, or simply listening to people and counseling them, or strum-
ming his guitar to the delight of everyone, Fr. Ramon is a source of great joy and comfort to all
because of his good sense of humor and great love for the Word of God.

Fr. Daniel Leary has been participating in men‟s and women‟s retreats for
12 years. His focus on drawing people closer to Christ through the Sacraments
and in forming a full prayer life has helped people grow in their faith. Fr. Leary
attended Mount St. Mary‟s Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD and was ordained in
1997. He is currently the Pastor at Jesus the Divine Word Church in Hunting-
town, MD.

Robert Canton was born in Cebu City, Philippines and he came in the United States
in 1973 after graduating from College with an Accounting degree. Since 1973, he has been
residing in Stockton, Ca. with his family.
Robert received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in Nov.1984, an experience with the
presence and power of the Holy Spirit which changed his life totally. On December 8, 1984,
he received prophecies or messages from the Lord about his future involvement in world-
wide ministries of preaching, teaching, and healing. In March 1985, he was asked to as-
sume the role of a servant leader for the Children of God Prayer Community, St. Luke's
Parish, Stockton, Ca., a role which he still holds. In 1989, the prayer community started a
monthly Mass and Healing Service which is still going strong until now.
In 1996, the Alliance of Filipino Catholic Charismatic Prayer Communities in North
America was formed and elected "Brother Bob"(as he is fondly called by friends and associ-
ates) as the National Coordinator. In 2006, he was elected as a Council Member of the
Vatican-based International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services(ICCRS) to represent
the English speaking North America, Central America, and Caribbean countries starting in
2007. He is one of the 14 Council Members representing all the continents of the world to
serve the worldwide Renewal through ICCRS and they meet at least once a year in the
Vatican. He is also a member of the Association of Christian Therapists and the Filipino
Pastoral Council of the Stocton Diocese. Brother Bob has spoken at various regional, na-
tional and international conferences and conventions and has conducted retreats, semi-
nars, Days of Renewal, Healing Rallies and Crusades not only in North America but also in
Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. He is highly recommended by his bishop, Stephen
Blaire of the Stockton Diocese, Bishop Oscar Solis of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and
Fr. Matthew O'Donnel, pastor of St. Luke's Parish, Stockton, Ca.
Robert also founded the Robert Canton Ministries, a non-profit organization whose aim
is to evangelize the entire world through teaching, preaching, and healing in the Name of
the Lord Jesus Christ. .

Weekend” which marked the beginning of the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic
Church. From the earliest days of the Renewal she has served as a leader through
teaching, writing and pastoral ministry. Patti‟s testimony has been widely published
and she has been a speaker at conferences and retreats for laity and priests in the
United States and around the world. She is a frequent guest on Ralph Martin‟s tele-
vision program: The Choices We Face. Patti has authored several books including:
Proclaim His Marvelous Deeds, As By ANew Pentecost: The Dramatic Beginning of
the Catholic Charismatic Renewal with a Foreword by Cardinal Suenens and Mag-
nificat: AMother’s Reflections on Mary.
Patti is married to Al Mansfield, Coordinator of the Catholic Charismatic Re-
newal of New Orleans, Louisiana, and is the mother of four children. She and Al
serve together in pastoral leadership of a weekly prayer meeting and an annual
Catholic Charismatic Conference. The Mansfields are Liaisons to the Archbishop of
New Orleans for the Charismatic Renewal and are recipients of the Papal Medal,
Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (For the Church and the Pope).
Patti was asked by the Pontifical Council for the Laity to thank Pope Benedict XVI on
behalf of all the ecclesial movements and new communities before a crowd of
400,000 people in St. Peter‟s Square on the vigil of Pentecost, 2006.

Dean Lopata was ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of

Baltimore in 1996. He has been a Spiritual Advisor for the AFCCPC for over a
decade. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Dean had a mid-life conversion experi-
ence that dramatically altered the course of his life. He has been active in the
Charismatic Renewal since 1981. The love of God, Pentecost and the fire of the
Holy Spirit continue to be the primary motivators for Dean‟s ministry efforts.

Jim Murphy was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.

While a senior in High School, Jim made a decision to surrender the rest of his
life to Christ. This decision had a major impact on every aspect of Jim's life. In 1976
he received his bachelor's degree in Social Work from Wayne State University
School of Social Work in Detroit.
Since that time, Jim has worked in the Catholic Church in various capacities: As
a member of parish pastoral teams; in youth ministry on parish, diocesan, and na-
tional levels; religious education; sacramental preparation; parish missions; consult-
ant and facilitator for many groups; and as an International conference speaker. Jim
has been extensively involved in Charismatic Renewal and was the chairman of the
National Service Committee from 1993-1996.
In 1992, inspired by the American Bishop's pastoral letter Heritage and Hope,
Jim successfully completed an 18 month, 4,200 mile journey on foot, carrying a
cross across America in an effort of prayer and evangelization.
Jim has authored a booklet entitled 17 Steps Toward Better Communication With
Your Teen.
Jim, his wife Susan, and their son John Patrick currently reside in Michigan.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses,
I offer myself soul and body to Thee,
Eternal Spirit of God.
I adore the brightness of Thy purity,
the unerring keenness of Thy justice,
and the might of Thy love.
Thou art the Strength and Light of my soul.
In Thee I live and move and am.
I desire never to grieve Thee by unfaithfulness to grace,
and I pray with all my heart to be kept
from the smallest sin against Thee.
Mercifully guard my every thought
and grant that I may always watch for Thy light
and listen to Thy voice
and follow Thy gracious inspirations.
I cling to Thee and give myself to Thee
and ask Thee by Thy compassion
to watch over me in my weakness.
Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus
and looking at His Five Wounds
and trusting in His Precious Blood
and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart,
I implore Thee Adorable Spirit,
helper of my infirmity,
so to keep me in Thy grace
that I may never sin against Thee.
Give me grace O Holy Ghost,
Spirit of the Father and the Son,
to say to Thee always and everywhere,
"Speak Lord, for Thy servant heareth."

Amen.

Greetings from CANA Marriage Renewal Movement

(Tuklasan community)

CANA’s mission is to to draw on marriage as a means to evan-

gelize the home, the parish, the workplace, and society as a
whole. The entry-point is a weekend retreat whose main goal is
to enhance the relationship between couples by making God an
active participant in that relationship. CANA believes that a
good marriage is the foundation of a solid family life and that
children are generally happier and more secure in a home where
there is a demonstrated love between the parents. This mar-
riage spirituality is deepened by prayer, study, service and
community, which are CANA’s main activities after the weekend
retreat.

It’s where we find peace, comfort, and friendship as we gather and grow in love,
spirit and truth. It’s the time to be when we seek and yearn for God - and learn to
forgive, heal and be restored. It’s where we feel the love of Jesus through the sin-
cere expressions of the member’s genuine love and concerns for each other. We
are blessed because we give ourselves freely, openly, and wholeheartedly in pray-
