ENGLISH SEMINAR: TIPS IN ANSWERING PAPER 1 & 2


1.0 Introduction English seminar is a program involving all form one students in MRSM Kuala Klawang in an effort to introduce and familiarize these students with the English examination papers and the skills to tackle the questions. This seminar aims to explicitly teach the students the skills to tackle and identify the pattern of the questions. These skills can be a huge help to the students to plan their strategies in answering the examination questions. This seminar is also an additional support to the formal and intensive learning that the students have already had in the classroom, which should enable the students to combine their knowledge in their formal learning and a smart planning during the examinations. 2.0 Rational

2.1 This seminar works as a medium to familiarize the students with the examination papers and the skills needed to tackle the questions. This is crucial as these students have yet to be formally assessed in both papers in their previous standardised examination. 2.2 There is also a need to explicitly and formally introduce these form one students to the examination papers and the skills because they are the second KAT batch. This means, in their first semester, they have been extensively trained and have practiced skills such as communication and mind-mapping skill other than the formal learning. Hence, this seminar should enable them actually know the format of the papers and the technique to answer the papers.

Aims and Objectives of Program

This program is expected to be able to: 3.1. Develop student skills and awareness of the format for English papers from Form One so that they can prepare themselves for their future examination. 3.2 Promote and give exposure to students to communicate in English and it is hoped that this program can be a catalyst for students to involve themselves to use English language as the main communication tool in their daily life. 3.3 Provide opportunities and space for students and teachers to interact with each other using English more effectively. 3.4 Foster a spirit of cooperation and confidence among students through the group activities. 3.5 Foster a spirit of cooperation between students and teachers. 4.0 Target group:

All form one students of MRSM Kuala Klawang.

Implementation

This English seminar is implemented comprehensively covering all the form one students and three English teachers of MRSM Kuala Klawang.

This English seminar is organized and managed by the substitute teacher and practical teachers of MRSM Kuala Klawang as a part of their contribution to this college.

ENGLISH SEMINAR 2011 *******************************


The seminar will be divided into two phases a) Paper Duration Participation Resource : Paper 2 (Guided writing) : 4 days (2 hours per day) : 8 form one classes (2 classes per day) : Examination paper (to be selected), markers and overhead projector (OHP)

Content/focus: 1) Outline of the essay 2) Linking words and grammar aspects (tenses, sentence structure etc.) 3) Understanding the instructions 4) Exercise group work Assessment: Group presentation (selected groups). All the works will be collected and compiled. These will be photocopied and given back to the students during the second phase. b) Paper : Paper 1 (Objective questions) Duration : 1 day (2 hours and 30 minutes) Participation : 8 classes of form one Resource : Examination paper (to be selected), notes on grammar (phrasal verbs) Content/focus: 1) Phrasal verbs 2) Grammar exercise Identifying tenses and grammar aspects * Students essay work will be returned afterwards Assessment: Question and answer session for phrasal verb and grammar.
