1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE 1.1. To adhere to GDCH ethical commitment to patients, families and community 1.2. To achieve customer satisfaction and meet International Standards of health care Services 1.3. PROCEDURE NO. PROCEDURE SEQUENCE 5.1. Adopts patient & Family Bill of rights & responsibilities (attachment 1). This Bill of rights includes but is not limited to : 4.1.1 Privacy for all examinations, procedures and treatment. 4.2.1 A female nurse should be present during examination of a female patient by a male doctor. 4.3.1 Family members are allowed to assist during examination of the patient as long as patient agrees for this. 4.4.1 Identification and respect of patient values & treatment. Confidentiality of patient information. 5.2. Allocate all required resources to implement related policies and ensure compliance in GDCH. 5.3. Ensure patient & family bill of rights and responsibilities are displayed in the hospital. 5.4. Ensure the Patient & Family Bill of rights & responsibilities are integral part of the new staff orientation program and training in all departments of GDCH. 5.5. Ensure allocation of resources required to implement the patient & family Bill of rights and responsibilities. 5.6. Ensure staff read and understand his/her responsibilities in protecting patient and family rights.

GDCH customers (patient & family) will receive a copy of the Patient & family Bill of rights & responsibilities. Ensure patient & family Bill of rights and responsibilities leaflets are available in all In patient units, ED and Out patient department. All families are encouraged to participate in care process Patient has the right to check for second opinion incase that he/she has doubts about the diagnosis, treatment plan or investigation. The treating doctor should not oppose or feel offended about patients second opinion request

PATIENTS BILL OF RIGHTS

To be informed of your right in an understandable manner. To be informed (patient and families) about the care and services of the health care organization and how to access those services. To have considerate and respectful care consistent with your personal values and beliefs and to have access to spiritual and religious support. To have care that is respectful of privacy. To have your valuables and personal belongings safe guarded. To be protected from any type of assault while a patient. To receive appropriate protection if you are a vulnerable child, disabled individual and/or elderly. To have all your information kept confidential and protected from loss and misuse. To have respectful and passionate care if your condition is terminal. To be given information on how to gain access to clinical research, investigation and clinical trials involving human subjects if this health care organization is currently involved in any of these. To be informed of how you would be informed and protected, if you participated in any clinical research, investigation or clinical trials. To be informed of the health care organization policy on complaints, conflicts, and differences of opinions about patient care and your right to participate in this process related to concerns about your treatment or care. To expect staff to understand your rights. To have informed consent (what will happen in the course of treatment) explained in an understandable information for you and your family about your illness, proposed treatment and care provided in order to make informed decision. To give general consent for treatment and have the general scope and limits of this consent explained. To expect to be asked for informed consent before surgery, anesthesia, use of blood and blood products, and other high risk treatment and procedures, clinical research, investigation and trial. To be informed of any conflicts involving the health organization and your care. To participate (patient and family) in the care process. To expect information on how you and your family will be told about medical conditions and treatment and how o participate in the care decisions if desired. To refuse or discontinue treatment. To expect UAE law and culture to be followed regarding withhold/withdraw life-sustaining treatments. To have any pain properly assess and appropriately manage. To be informed o treatment charges. To know the names of your physician and care providers.

PATIENTS RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide all personal and family health information needed to provide you with appropriate care. To participate to the best of your ability in making decisions about your medical treatment, to follow instruction and comply with the agreed upon plan of care. To accept the consequences of not accepting care recommendations from the provider or not following the plan of care. To ask questions to your physician and other health care provider if you desire a transfer of care to other physician, care giver or facility. To show respect and consideration of others receiving and providing care.
