. Background: I come from a family with business background and my father is also a businessman.

I too want to want to pursue business as my career option. I used to see my father carry out his business tasks with utmost responsibility and sincerity. This made me want to learn more about entrepreneurship, business and management. I pursued entrepreneurship as one of the subjects because it appealed to me and I want to start a successful venture. Cooking has been my hobby from a long time and I have a passion for making new and delicious dishes. Therefore, the first thing that came to my mind for My Business Idea was to start a restaurant as it includes both business and cooking - my only two passions. Hence, the following is a project report on My Restaurant.

Name: FUSION SPICE Location: In Sector-V Motto: The Best Fusion Todays world is progressing rapidly and its residents are in the habit of running in the never ending rat race and living a fast paced life. As a result, more and more people can afford a more luxurious life. Hence, the demand for shopping malls, multiplexes and restaurants has shoot up. There is no denying to the fact that in modern times, people want to go out for lunch and dinners more often. They do not want to consume home made food all the time. Here arises the need for a restaurant, as it not only acts as a much needed change but also provides the opportunity for a small outing even after a long, hard working day.

Q1. Do you visit restaurants? Interpretation: - All people interviewed atleast visited small eating joints. Q2. When do you preferably visit a food joint? Interpretation: - Maximum respondents visit food joints in the evening or late night. Q3. You prefer to visit a food joint with? Interpretation: - Humans are social beings and like to visit different restaurants in groups. Q4. How much do you spend at a time on visiting a restaurant? Interpretation: - Most of the respondents spend Rs. 500 approximately at a time visit. Q5. You prefer a restaurant because of? Interpretation: - Most of the respondents preferred a restaurant because of its pricing and food taste. Q6. Which is the most effective promotional activity for restaurants according to you? Interpretation: - Most of the respondents prefer discount schemes as the most effective promotional activity.

It is very clear from the survey results and their interpretations that todays consumers are more attracted towards food joints as compared to the earlier generations. Restaurants have become an integral part of our society in the modern times because a huge part of the population prefers to eat in restaurants at least once in a fortnight if not weekly. Hence, it would not be wrong to say that there is a huge scope for restaurants in our society.

This increasing trend for restaurants is also applicable to Kolkata and hence, there are plenty of opportunities that can be exploited. There has been some development in this sector as many new restaurants have come up but a lot more work can be done. However, the new restaurants that have come up are only focused or located in the posh area i.e, the southern part of the city. But, the other areas in the city still offer plenty of entrepreneurial opportunities like the Sector V area. Sector V is one of the fast developing areas of the city. Hence, there is a huge scope for the entertainment and service sector in general, leave alone restaurants. Sector-V is undergoing development at a rapid rate. Residential buildings and complexes, office buildings are all coming up and in a years time, it will be a distinguishable part of Kolkata. Fusion Spice is planned to be located in Sector-V keeping in mind the Sector - Vs bright future prospective.

Some of the existing restaurants set up in Sector V are: Barbeque Nation BBs Indian Thali These food joints have been running since the starting of 2011 and are functioning well. But, one can make out that they are not complete in the sense that some of them offer only fast food whereas the menus of some other restrict it to a mere cafe. But Fusion Spice is planned to be a complete restaurant with a menu offering various types of cuisines. It shall offer fast food as well as proper main course food. Looking at the entire Kolkata, there are only a few restaurants that offer such a wide variety of dishes. A major competitor could be Bombay Shiv Sagar. But it is located in the central part of the city which is far enough from Sector-V. But, at the same time the pricing strategy could pay rich dividends against Bombay Shiv Sagar. These things taken into consideration, gives Fuison Spice a bright future. Overall, we can conclude that starting a restaurant in Sector-V has a great economic viability.

To provide better environment and ambience to the customers. To provide better waiting facilities to the customers. To make a price effective restaurant. To use new technologies in restaurants like smart tablets for the techno savvy generation. To bring the concept of environment friendly to restaurants and minimize wastage.

Fusion Spice is planned in such a manner that it stands out as a complete restaurant among its competitors. It shall have the following features A pure vegetarian restaurant. The area of the restaurant is planned to be around 1800-2000 sq. ft. which shall be divided into three parts:1. Modular Kitchen (250 sq. ft. approx) 2. Dining Area (750 sq. ft. approx) 3. Banquet hall (800-900 sq. ft. approx) A modern Modular Kitchen with all the latest cooking equipments. Blackberry Playbook- Each table will have a Black berry Playbook. The customer will be able to see the Menu Card and the other facilities offered by the restaurant in it. Small Banquet hall- A considerable portion of the restaurant area will be converted into a small banquet hall. It shall be given on rent to conduct small parties or functions like birthdays/ anniversary parties, businees meetings/ conferences/ presentations etc. Effective marketing strategies- New and different sales promotion activities shall be employed to give a boost to the restaurants sales: 1. Membership cards 2. Home delivery

MEMBERSHIP CARDS: Customers can become members and avail Membership cards through a one time payment of Rs. 250/-. Regular customers will enjoy maximum benefit from the membership card scheme. Under this scheme the special benefits that customer can get are: 15 % discount in Restaurant 10 % discount in Banquets

HOME DELIVERY: A special home delivery section will be made both in the kitchen as well as in the cash counters. The aim of this counter will be to provide hot and fresh food and that to very quickly, as this is most common complaints of the customers.

ADVERTISEMENT: The aim will be to advertise effectively in newspapers (like The Telegraph, Times of India), hoardings, banners, posters, online social networking sites (like Twitter and Facebook). This shall not only promote Fusion Spice as a brand but shall also increase its sales as it will attract customers to the restaurant. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (CRM) Customer relationship management to build long-term relationship with customers and to retain existing customers. CRM practices would include:. 1. Greetings and special cards on birthday and special occasions of the customers. 2. Special gifts to valuable customers. 3. Attractive offers to customers on special occasions and days like birthdays/ anniversaries in the restaurant. CUSTOMER QUERY HANDLING: There will be a special counter that will look into the queries of the customers. It shall be done on both telephone as well as personally. This will make the customer want to comeback to the restaurant again and again.

INTERACTIVE MARKETING: All the customers can be targeted through interactive marketing. This will help us know customers satisfaction level as well as to know their new expectations. It will also help us to think towards cater ing to new segments. This will also help in developing further future and expansion plans of the restaurant.

This is one of the best and most important feature of Fusion Spice as it will appeal to the techno savvy people of the modern world. The idea is that one BlackBerry Playbook will be placed on each table. It is basically a smart tablet which can be used by the customer not only to view the menu but to also place their order. This technology is called the POS system which is being used in some of the restaurants in foreign countries. It was designed for taking orders in a restaurant setting. But today, it is being looked at from a much broader point of view as it is used in place of traditional paper based forms to increase productivity and go green. Moreover, it is being used to enhance the customer experience. People are familiar with iPads, iPhones and Android tablets, so it would enhance that. In addition, to being able to order food and drinks, it also enables the customers to check their Facebook and twitter accounts, play online games and listen to songs etc. With smartphones getting smarter, smaller, and speedier all the time, concurrent advances in mobile point-of-sale technology is giving restaurants a degree of freedom. However, the technology is in its infancy, and new developments are on the horizon. It shall reduce labour requirements of the restaurant as less waiters will be required to take orders.

Obtaining Approval To open a restaurant in Kolkata, India, one needs to present certificates to the local police department demonstrating that he either owns the property or has the permission of the owner (ie. on rent). So we will have to submit a plan to the Municipal Corporation and obtain its approval. The same government agency will issue you a Utilization certificate, Trade license and Health license. Additional Certification We will also need to present a certificate from the fire department demonstrating that it will have no objection to your operating as a restaurant at the location you choose. In addition, we shall have to register our business with the Commissioner of Labor as well as the director of Industrial Safety and Health, to obtain licenses qualifying us to participate in the Shop Act program, which authorizes us to monitor our own worker safety programs. Complying With the Food Standards and Safety Act According to 2006 Food Standards and Safety Act, we need to present the health department with documentation from a physician attesting to the fact that each member of its staff is healthy. The law requires physical examinations every six months. The state's Food and Drug Administration will regularly test food samples to make sure that they are free from food-borne illnesses and toxic chemicals.

STRENGHTS:-

There are very few pure vegetarian restaurants in Kolkata. A wide variety of food items in the menu. Certain special dishes of Fusion Spice are served. Lack of proper formal restaurants in Sector-V. Rapid development in Sector-V area resulting in huge demand for restaurants and a bright future. Use of Blackberry Playbook to view menu and place order attracts todays technosavvy youth. Home Delivery: A special section for only home delivery. Membership Cards providing high discounts. Extensive advertisement. Special schemes and discounts for special seasons. Special counter to look into the queries of the customers. Experienced and competent staff. Fair pricing strategy as compared to other restaurants. Banquet Hall to conduct small parties. Construction of Metro which provide easy transport from and to Sector-V.

WEAKNESS: More population of non-vegetarian people in Kolkata which it does not cater to. Banquet Hall is not big enough to conduct large parties. At present, only a limited number of people reside in Sector-V. OPPORTUNITIES: Include Mexican and Italian dishes in the menu. To start serving breakfast and snacks as well. Bright future because of development of Sector-V. THREATS: Possibility of new restaurants coming up to cater to the rising demand. Changing tastes and demands of the customers.

After, completely analyzing every minute detail of todays world in general and restaurant sector in particular, we can conclude that there exists plenty of entrepreneurial opportunities for the entertainment industry. Kolkata is known as the City Of Joy and people residing here prefer to relax and enjoy their life to the fullest. Hence, a restaurant with the potential and caliber of Fusion Spice is planned to be opened in Sector-V, Kolkata. After, careful analysis through this project report, we can easily conclude that starting a restaurant would be a feasible and a viable venture given the ever rising demands of the people, constant change in the tastes of the people and the need for relaxation and entertainment in todays fast paced and hectic life. People want a place where they can get everything from fun to rest. In modern times, people want to go out more often to different places instead of staying indoors all the time. A restaurant fills all these criterion and hence it has become an integral part of each and every family in the society. Fusion Spice aims at doing all these things. It aims to serve the people only the best and to maximize their satisfaction. It also aims to fulfill the demands and do away with the complaints. EXPANSION PLAN: Expand the menu to include more of western cuisines like Mexican, Italian etc. Start serving breakfast and snacks, to break the culture of only dinners and lunch. Expand Banquet hall and possibly extend it to create a separate name / identity. Start a restaurant chain and make Fusion Spice, a brand all over Kolkata.
