INTRODUCTION Information in this document is intended to provide detailed instructions for the installation of the Raisbeck Engineering Dual Aft Body Strakes System on Beechcraft King Air 90, A90, B90, C90, C90A, C90GT, C90GTi and E90 series aircraft. The instructions are presented in a recommended sequence. However, some of the activities presented may be accomplished concurrently to suit the installers schedule. THE RAISBECK ENGINEERING DUAL AFT BODY STRAKES SYSTEM HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION (FAA) UNDER SUPPLEMENTAL TYPE CERTIFICATION (STC) SA4010NM. THE INSTALLATION OF THIS SYSTEM MUST CONFORM TO THE FAA APPROVED RAISBECK ENGINEERING INSTALLATION DRAWINGS AND THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS DOCUMENT.

AFT BODY STRAKES DESCRIPTION The Raisbeck Engineering Dual Aft Body Strakes System incorporates two strakes on the under side of the aft body, which replaces the single ventral fin. This system is designed and engineered to streamline the air flow around the aft body, which reduces drag, improves aircraft stability, and reduces the need for a yaw damper. The strakes can be installed with solid or blind fasteners. After the strakes are located the ventral fin is removed. If the customer wants to retain the aft tiedown, the ventral fin may be cut aft of the tie-down hole.

DUAL AFT BODY STRAKES SYSTEM INSTALLATION CAUTION: 6.1 1) THE AFT BODY STRAKES SHOULD BE LOCATED PRIOR TO VENTRAL FIN REMOVAL

Locating the Aft Body Strakes REF. DRAWINGS 90-1402, SHEET 1, page 11 Gain access into the aft body of the aircraft through the access panel and doors shown in Zone B3.

3) 4)

Place the left and right aft body strakes on the body as shown in Zone B5. Position the strakes forward and aft so the forward edge of the flanges of the AFT BODY STRAKES (90-3402-5 and -6) overlap the tailcone skin forward edge as shown in Detail B. Position the aft portion of the strakes inboard and outboard at the forward edge of the aft sections as shown in View J-J. As an important check for proper strake location, the forward end alignment and corresponding fastener location measurements must be as shown in Detail F, Case I or Case II, depending on existing airplane configuration, and the aft end should fit between the tailcone attach screws.

6) 7) 8)

Rev E: 12/07

Fo

CAUTION:

Hold the strakes firmly against the body. Mark the location of existing rivets that may pick up the strakes flanges. Some existing rivets may not pick up the strakes flange with adequate edge margin. Mark these locations for flush rivets. Remove the strakes. Remove existing rivets marked in Steps 6 and 7, if required. Install flush RIVETS (MS20426AD) in holes marked in Step 7, if required (see Raytheon Maintenance Manual 51-70-00).

9) 10)

Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5. Back drill or mark existing rivet locations, if required, and install temporary fasteners At the aft end of the forward strakes, layout 1 hole in each flange. Hole locations must maintain minimum edge margin and miss body substructure. Drill No. 30 holes through the strake flange and body skin at marked location. Using No. 30 holes, drill in strake flanges and body skin to match pilot holes, unless the hole locations will have less than minimum spacing with existing holes or if used would interfere with body sub-structure. NOTES: 1. If some pilot holes are not used, as indicated in Detail B, leave pilot holes open. No two open pilot holes in a row and no more than 7 open pilot holes in a forward strake. Using a number 30 drill locate and drill holes in the forward strakes and body maintaining minimum margin edge from open holes. The total number of holes on inboard flange should be 27 and on the outboard flange 28.

Ventral Fin Removal REF. DRAWING 90-1402, SHEET 1, page 11

Cut the ventral fin 2.62 inches aft of the tie-down hole as shown in Detail A. If the customer does not wish to retain the aft tie-down, the fin may be cut 21.50 inches forward of the tie-down as shown in Detail A. If the fin forward of the tie-down is removed, plug open holes in the body skin with RIVETS (MS20470A4-()) or BLIND RIVETS (CR3242-4-()) similar to call-outs in Detail H. Rework PLUG (81-3414-101) as necessary to fit the open end

13)

Remove strakes and tailcone, retain screws.

ef er

Leave the third pilot hole forward of the aft edge of the aft strake inboard and outboard flange open. Leave the second pilot hole aft of the forward edge of the aft strake inboard flange open. Using a number 30 drill, drill in the aft strake and tailcone to match pilot locations 7 places in each flange.

of the fin (Ref. Drawing 90-1402, Sheet 1, Flag note 2). 2) Remove and discard the forward and aft sections of the ventral fin by drilling out the attaching fasteners. Use care to preclude enlarging holes in the body skin or sub-structure. Retain SCREWS (AN525-10R7) at the forward end of the center fin. Install rivets in the body structure as shown in Detail H. As an installers option, blind rivets may be substituted for solid rivets (Ref. Drawing 90-1402, Sheet 1, Flag note 6).

Install forward strakes sections with RIVETS (MS20470AD4-6 and MS20470AD4-4) in the outboard flanges and RIVET (MS20470A4-6 and MS20470A4-4) in the inboard flanges as shown in Detail B. 1. As and installers option, the solid rivets in the strakes outboard flanges can be substituted with BLIND RIVETS (CR3213-4-()) and the solid rivets in the strakes inboard flanges can be substituted with SCREWS (AN525-832R-()), WASHERS (AN960-8), and NUT (MS21042L08). Drill .129 (+.003 or -.000) inch diameter holes for blind rivets and .164 (+.004 or .000) inch diameter holes for screws.

On airplanes with fiberglass tailcones, fabricate backing plates to be installed on the inside of the tailcone to pickup the fasteners. Backing plates should be fabricated from 0.032 inch thick aluminum (2024-T3, 7075-T6, 6061-T4, or 6061-T6) and sized to maintain minimum edge margin (Ref. Drawing 90-1402, Sheet 1, Flag note 10).

2.

As and installers option, the strakes may be installed with a faying surface seal (Ref. Drawing 90-1402, Sheet 1, Flag note 5).

2)

On airplanes with fiberglass tailcones, install aft strakes sections with backing plates on the inside of the tailcone with RIVETS (MS20470AD4-7) 15 places shown in Detail B. Leave the four forward holes in the aft strakes sections open. On airplanes with aluminum tailcones, (beavertail), install aft strakes sections with RIVETS (MS20470AD4-7) 15 places as shown in Detail B. Leave the four forward holes in the aft strakes sections open. Temporarily install the tailcone and enlarge the forward four holes to .164 (+.004 or -.000) inch diameter through the strake flange, tailcone, and bulkhead.

3)

6) 7) 8) 9) 6.4

Install a fillet seal with SEALANT (PR1422B-2 or equivalent) around the strakes flanges (Ref. Drawing 90-1402, Sheet 1, Flag note 1). It is recommended that a detailed inspection of all work accomplished be preformed at this time.

Fo

Reinstall the aft body access panel and doors, as required. Paint Preparation The stakes do not require special paint preparation. Apply customers top coat following the paint manufactures recommendations. CAUTION: TO ENSURE GOOD ADHESION FOR THE CUSTOMERS FINISH PAINT THE INSTALLER SHOULD AVOID AUTOMOTIVE PRIMER AND FILLER SYSTEMS
