Under sina sex år vid makten
har AKP gjort mer för att
förverkliga Kemal Atatürks mål
att modernisera Turkiet och ge
det en hemhörighet i Europa än
vad de partier som åberopar sig
på honom åstadkommit under
80 år.
Förhandlingar med EU har
inletts och Turkiet är idag ett
öppnare och mer demokratiskt
samhälle än någonsin tidigare i
sin historia även om mycket
återstår att göra.
Trots detta och trots att inte en
enda religiöst färgad lag har
införts har varningarna för en
hemlig islamistisk agenda ändå
inte tystnat.
När regeringen med stöd av det
nationalistiska MHP tidigare i
år gjorde det möjligt för unga
kvinnor med huvuddok att
studera vid universiteten tog

véu frequentem a universidade,
o procurador geral entendeu
isto como uma evidência de que
o estado secular estava exposto
a tal ameaça, que o partido
devia ser banido.
O véu tornou-se um pano
vermelho defronte de um
touro, especialmente para as
mulheres kemalistas que o
entenderam como prova de que
estavam ameaçados os direitos
que Atatürk concedeu-lhes mais
de 80 anos atrás, quando ele
