d would not respond to the reports that are circulating with regard to the tragic incident that occurred last Sunday morning at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel. However, given the incorrect information that is circulating on various online media, we must set the record straight. The late Mr Chiyembekeza Chikapa, aged 27years, had spent the night at the Hotel, having been married the previous day. He was swimming at the pool in the company of his wife when he got into difficulties and he was taken out of the water by the Hotels lifeguard. Sadly, all efforts to revive him failed and he was certified dead on arrival at the hospital. Sunbird wishes to state categorically that any reports that are running contrary to the above position are false, causing an already grieving family unnecessary distress. A thorough investigation was carried out by Police Officers immediately after the incident and there has been no suggestion of wrong-doing by the Hotel. We trust that this will clarify any false allegations being made and we would like to assure our guests that their safety is always a priority in all our hotels. In closing, we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased for what was a tragic accident.
