CLEAR VALLEY
BUSINESS CONNECTIONS
The Clearwater Economic Development Corporation
now known as Clear Valley Business Connections was
incorporated in October of 1987 for the purpose of pro-
moting the Clearwater area. The group has since
expanded to include businesses of Clear Lake and the
surrounding townships. The name of the organization
was recently changed to more accurately reflect its net-
working focus.
Meeting once a month on the 2nd Thursday, 7:30 am at
Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater, the group offers
an environment to network, educate and encourage
communication between business, government and
local organizations. All of these groups mentioned are
invited to attend and join for a very small annual fee.
We hope you will appreciate the enthusiasm that Clear
Valley Business Connections has for the
Clearwater/Clear Lake area and continue to show your
support by patronizing local businesses.
THANK YOU
The Clearwater Tribune and CVBC would like to
thank the Cities of Clearwater and Clear Lake for the
information they provided to this community guide.
We apologize to any organization or event that was
mistakenly not included. Please contact the Tribune
to be added to our next guide.

From the Editor
Susan Nagorski, advertising salesperson for
the Clearwater Tribune, stuck her head
inside the door to my office a few weeks
back and proudly announced this will be the
fifth year for publication of the Clearwater-
Clear Lake Communities Guide.
She - and our two local communities -
should be justly proud of the publication. It
is a great coming-together identity piece for
the two cities. Rather, we should say, communities, because
important people within our rural districts need also to be recog-
nized.
Small towns are today what small towns were a hundred years
ago. But people think small towns are small because they cant
become big towns.
Not so, we say.
Communities like Clearwater and Clear Lake havent had some
of the natural resources to draw thousands of people and make
them huge.
But that hasnt been important. Clearwater and Clear Lake
continue to attract wonderful, enterprising business people and
community entrepreneurs who help create activities and a
lifestyle that is immensely rewarding.
Look to the business owners and managers in your town. Ask
them why they located their business in this community and they
will inform you of a number of reasons.
A likely response was that the community landscape was a
good fit for what they had to offer.
We have wonderful, creative and energetic civic and business
organizations who attract talent with ideas on how to have fun
and create entertaining activities for the community.
Look to the wonderful theatre group which was at work in
Clearwater again this spring.
Ask any member why he gets a charge out of being in
Clearwater Community Theatre.
I suspect the response will start with a smile.
But its about rubbing elbows, sharing joint concerns, attacking
problems and solving them - with everyone having a hand in it
and another smile to conclude things.
Such are the ways of our wonderful Clear Lake and Clearwater
Lions Clubs. You cant find a better band of patriots than them.
We have wonderful churches to minister to our families.
Among the wonderful clergy leaders, we think, is a special young
man who traveled to Africa last summer to help provide water
(and the word) to the people of Ethiopia.
He is Pastor David Hibbison of Clearwater, who regularly
spends time in outreach - to the poor, the disenfranchised, shar-
ing his family home on holidays with those just out of prison.
There is, no truer spirit of serving fellow man than rests within
his soul.
We look forward to all the good stories coming from the won-
derful people at Clearview Elementary School. They are truly
innovators and a sparkplug for the free thinking and innovation
that comes regularly from within their walls.
Clearview is something our locals can truly be proud of.
Finally, a note of gratitude to the Clear Valley Business
Connections organization and their membership, which meets
and plans for a better community and for their support of this
publication.
Also, a note of tribute to our longstanding Clearwater Tribune
staffers, Susan Nagorski, in ad sales, to Ken Francis, now in his
13th year in editorial coverage, and to fellow staff writer Jennifer
Edwards, who is in her 10th year for our newspapers.
Thank you for all your work.

Fun and nature
on the Mississippi
By Ken Francis
Staff Writer
The Wild and Scenic Mississippi River can be a place for
quiet contemplation and a place to interact with nature.
But lots of people in Minnesota have found a way to expe-
rience that connection with nature while having fun.
Clear Waters Outfitting Company, located in the old
Clearwater Creamery, organizes canoe and kayak trips along
the Mississippi River.
Owners Dan and Sandra Meer bought the historic cream-
ery in 2009 and preserved a big portion of the structure. They
opened in 2010 and are now the only canoe rental/sales
company in Central Minnesota.
And people really enjoy being able to take advantage of the
river, a resource very few communities have in their own
backyard.
Its a wonderful resource in Central Minnesota that most
people take for granted or dont even know about, Dan says.
But after theyve done the trip theyre amazed about how
wild and scenic it is. A lot of the shoreline is still in its natu-
ral state.
Customers can be shuttled between St. Cloud and
Monticello. There are a number of stops along the way,
including campsites that are accessible only by boat.
Clear Waters Outfitting offers daily canoe, kayak, stand-up-
paddle board rental and shuttling service. Drop-off points
allow for an eight-mile (2-3 hour) or 13-mile (4-5 hour) day
trips. There are also overnight trips.
It just depends on how much time you want to be on the
water, says Dan.
Because the Mississippi River is a major migratory corridor,
paddlers will often see eagles, blue herons, egrets, hawks,
and pelicans along with many other birds, mammals, and
amphibians that call the area home.
And canoers and kayakers wont be disturbed by motor-
boats because that stretch of the Mississippi is shallow with a
rocky bottom. Its ideal for canoes, kayaks and stand-up pad-
dle (SUP) boards with a gently flowing current void of any
rapids, dams or falls.
The river is ideal for
people of all abili-
ties and the fishing is
second to none.
The river has a
current but the water
here is very calm,
Dan says, so its
great for novices. Its
easy paddling.

between St Cloud and Monticello is known to have some of
the best smallmouth fishing in the country.
And there is nothing that compares with the view of the
shoreline, especially during the fall color season.
The riverbanks are loaded with hardwoods, says Dan.
The colors are amazing.
The office/retail store is the former creamery, built almost
100 years ago. There are snacks and drinks as well as sou-
venirs and outdoor gear.
A second, newer building is filled with a large selection of
canoes and kayaks for sale for those who get the urge to make
the river a regular spot for recreation.
The company has also started a remote outfitting program,
working with other communities to bring evening paddles to
their local lakes and rivers. The Cities and Community
Education programs include Becker, Big Lake, Monticello, Otsego, Maple Lake, Annandale, Albany, Melrose and
Holdingford.
I think the fact that we are a company that brings people
back to nature and is all about spending quality time with
friends and loved ones, really makes people love what we do
and what we are all about, says Dan.
Whether its spending the day on the water with family and
friends, fishing for monster smallies, tenting overnight on the
banks of the Mississippi, or just looking to reconnect with
nature, we hope to provide the perfect day for our cus-
tomers.
Clear Waters Outfitting is located at the foot of Pine Street
in historic downtown Clearwater.

The play set, funded by the City of Clearwater, was installed
in the fall of 2005.
The dugouts were generously funded by the Clearwater

and basswood forest that once covered part of southern
Minnesota.
The park is perfect for hikers, backpackers, horseback rid-

rolling terrain. Take a stroll on the boardwalk which winds
through a marsh.
Backpack sites, located on remote lakes and ponds through-
out the park, are just two miles from the trailhead parking lot.
New log camper cabins, located near lakes and ponds, pro-
vide bunk beds for six people and a table and benches for
campers who want more of the creature comforts.
Lake Maria State Park is home to the Blandings turtle, easi-

From humble beginnings in Nininger in 1857, where the States first town team
was formed, to our Homer Hanky filled Metrodome, Minnesota has a long and
proud history in our National Pastime.
In1867, the Minnesota State Association of Base Ball Players was formed and
they held the first State Tournament as the North Star Club of St. Paul beat the
Vermillion Baseball Club, 43-35. By 1884, Minnesota had its first experience in
professional ball when the Northwest League formed with five teams from the State.
The turn of the century brought big-time minor league ball to Minnesota and by the
mid-20s, town teams were regularly playing for State titles. Soon, town team ball
spread like wildfire and minor leagues scattered the landscape. It wasnt long before
baseball dominated summer life across Minnesota. From the Saints and Millers to
the Twins. From the North Star Club to the 100s of amateur teams playing today.
Our history of baseball is strong, and were here to show it to you.

CENTRAL MINNESOTA
FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM
Allowing children and seniors to mutually benefit from an
intergenerational relationship
Catholic Charities Foster Grandparent Program provides the
opportunity for stipend volunteers age 55+ to make a lasting
contribution to their community by mentoring children in
100+ nonprofit volunteer sites across Central Minnesota.
Foster Grandparents volunteer a minimum of 15 hours per
week; many give up to 40 hours. Annually, 220 Foster
Grandparents serve 8,000 of children for a total of 180,000
hours of service. Volunteer Sites often say that they don't
know how they would ever replace their Foster Grandparents
because of all of the good that they do.
Providing a valuable "natural" resource
Foster Grandparents are valuable resources for children and
for their Volunteer Sites. They offer wisdom and the benefit of
their knowledge, various talents, and experience to children
and to the service site. Often a Foster Grandparent fills a void
left in a child's life when his/her own grandparents live at a
distance or are deceased. A Foster "Grandma" or "Grandpa"
gives each special child valuable one-on-one attention,
encouragement, and unconditional love.
Offering themselves in service to Central Minnesota's chil-
dren
Foster Grandparents volunteer throughout the 16 Central
Minnesota counties served by Catholic Charities of the
Diocese of St. Cloud: Benton, Douglas, Grant, Isanti,
Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Pope, Sherburne,
Stearns, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, and Wilkin coun-
ties. Children in these counties are waiting for their Foster
Grandparent. There is always a need to register more Foster
Grandparent volunteers and more service sites.

Hello and welcome to Clearwater!
Clearwater is located in the heart of all
the I-94 & Hwy 10 hustle n bustle!
We are perfectly situated between St.
Cloud and Monticello on I-94, and
serve as one of the main veins for
cabin-goers traveling back and forth
from the cities and northern
Minnesota.
Although considered a small city by
population, Clearwater has both terrific people and thriving
businesses. We know that our location makes us truly unique
and a convenient home for residents living here. Also,
because of our unique location, our residents have the oppor-
tunity to send their children to any of the four amazing school
districts that surround our city. St. Cloud, Monticello, Becker
and Annandale give our families many great Pre K-12 options
for our families to choose from.
This year, as the City Council set its goals, we are continuing
to plan for the future development of our 5 city parks with the
use of our half-cent sales tax revenue. New basketball courts,
park pavilion upgrades and new playground equipment are
coming in the near future!
Looking for a place to spend time outdoors?
We have miles of bike and walking paths, tennis and basket-
ball courts, a frisbee golf course and ball fields, and the
Clearwater and Mississippi rivers with some excellent fishing!
I welcome you to come- enjoy our parks, enjoy our rivers,
and see for yourself how pleasant Clearwater can be.

Giving an old
house new life
By Ken Francis
Staff Writer
Clearwater is rich in history, and one new couple in town is
helping preserve some of that history.
Wally and Diane Eisenschenk purchased the former
Anthony Raw home at 265 Bluff Street. The home was built in
1919.
The Eisenschenks decided to sell their larger home in Cold
Spring and move a bit further east. After looking at other
homes in South St. Cloud, they found the Raw home on
Craigslist last summer.
The woman who owned it was looking for someone who
would respect the oldness of the home, says Diane. She
wanted to be in control of the type of person who would buy
it.
The Eisenschenks were a perfect match. Wally is a skilled
carpenter, cabinet maker and restoration contractor.
When we got the house we just liked it. And it was in good
shape, says Wally. The house isnt curved or bent or bowed
inward or outward. And its all solid oak 2x4 construction. The
guy who built this did it right.
The couple started working on the downstairs first, chang-
ing what was necessary and preserving all the hardwood
floors and original woodwork.
The hallway and two walls in the living room were dark
purple, says Diane. We repainted the walls and got the
floors refinished. We moved in Aug. 30 and by Thanksgiving
we had the living room hallway and dining room redone.
All the original windows are still intact, with what appears
to be original glass. All the old storm windows and screens are
still there, too.
The home has original hardwood floors, oak downstairs and
maple upstairs. Wally decided not do a complete sanding and
refinishing of the old floors.

ner china cabinet in the dining room, one of the original fea-
tures still intact in the Raw house.

We didnt strip the floors. We cleaned them up and put
polyurethane on them to bring them back to life a bit, he
says. Theres lots of marks that tell different stories about the
house.
The couple decided to remove a wall upstairs to combine
two small rooms into a master bedroom.
Wally will be installing pocket doors on the bathroom
because its narrow width doesnt allow for a swinging door.
Theyre also finding out lots of interesting things while
doing their renovation - like wires in the walls theyve yet to
identify, a heat register behind the kitchen stove and a com-
plete cistern water collection and distribution system in the
attic.
Wally said he discovered that when he went up to take care
of a bat and squirrel problem.
The couple is continuing to work on one section at a time.
Theyll be gutting and remodeling the small kitchen. And at
some point theyll add a regular size garage and connect it to
the house with a walkway.
As you can see weve got plenty of things to do yet, but
were gradually getting there, says Wally. Were basically
putting it back to what we think is pretty much original - other
than a few things to make it more comfortable.
House History
Samuel Whiting, who was an early settler in Clearwater,
was probably the first owner of the lot on Bluff Street. The
property was part of the Clearwater Pulp Company.
The property was transferred from Egbert K. Whiting and
May Hays Whiting, husband and wife, to Anthony Raw,
Village of Clearwater on Sept. 26, 1912.
The 1920 census shows Anthony Raws occupation as hard-
ware merchant. He was part owner with Millard Boddy of
Raw & Boddy Hardware at 435 Main Street.
It is believed the house was built by Steve Schwartz in 1919,
and the Eisenschenks have found that name on the back of
some of the moldings they took down to strip and refinish.
Wally says a member of the Raw family still lived in the
house as late as the 1970s. It has changed hands a few times
since then.
Now its the Eisenschenks turn, and they like the feeling of
the old house.
Its older and it has character, says Wally. I think older
houses have character that the new houses dont have any-
more.

Wright County Public Health wants to raise awareness
about the role public health and prevention plays in our lives,
our health and our pocketbook. Because the reality is, poor
health comes at a big price-for all of us. It is often said that
public health is invisible; that most people dont know what
public health is or how it impacts their lives. Do you know
how public health impacts your life right here in Wright
County?
DID YOU KNOW?
If 10% of adults began walking regularly, 5.6 million dol-
lars in heart disease costs could be averted nationally each
year. Wright County Parks System contains miles of beautiful
paved, limestone aggregate and natural surface trails that can
be enjoyed year round. These trails are perfect for bicycling,
rollerblading, jogging and hiking. Did you know cross-coun-
try skiing is available at 4 different park locations and ski
rental is available on Saturday and Sundays at Robert Ney
Regional Park and Nature center? Snowshoeing trails and
sledding hills are also available at a variety of parks. Check
out Wright County Parks at www.co. wright.mn.us where you
will find more information and an interactive map of the
parks system. All of this can be found under the Property,
GIS, Environment, Parks tab. Know your numbers or want to
check your progress? Wright Countys WOW Van provides
low cost cholesterol and diabetes testing/screening. You can
get your blood pressure taken for free by a real nurse (not a
machine.) Plus we have lots of resources, educational materi-
al and encouragement to get you headed in the right direc-
tion. Up to $11.80 in benefits can be gained for every $1
invested in bike and walking trails. States with the highest lev-
els of biking and walking also have the lowest levels of cost-
ly chronic disease, such as high blood pressure, obesity and
diabetes.
DID YOU KNOW?
368 people in Minnesota got into their vehicles last year to
go somewhere and didnt make it, and more than of peo-
ple killed in car crashes were not wearing their seatbelts. Safe
Communities of Wright County is working to prevent car
crashes and the resulting injuries and fatalities. Since its
inception in 1997, it has sponsored innovative traffic safety
initiatives throughout Wright County. These efforts are being
felt by each citizen and driver who passes through Wright
County. The numbers of severe injury and fatal crashes have
dropped over 40% percent since 1997. To find out more
about what this program is doing in Wright County; check out
their web site at www.safe comm.org

DID YOU KNOW?
Motor vehicle-related injuries are the leading cause of
death among U.S. children and 70% of all car seats are
installed incorrectly. Public Healths certified passenger safe-
ty technicians did 197 car seats checks in Wright County last
year. Car seats checks are available by appointment at the
Human Service Center in Buffalo or on the WOW Van. Child
safety seats reduce the risk of death by 71% for infants and by
54% for children ages 1-4 years of age. Every $1 spent on car
seats saves $42 in health care cost due to injury.
DID YOU KNOW?
Obesity in children and teens has nearly tripled since 1980
and fewer than 15% of adults and 10% of children eat the
recommended amount of fruits and vegetable each day. The
Live Wright program is working in our Wright County
schools and has sponsored programs such as School Garden
101 and The Farm to School Curriculum. The mission of
Live Wright is to partner with Wright County citizens to
increase physical activity, healthy eating and reduced tobac-
co use by changing behaviors in the environment where we
live, learn and work. Find out more at www.wrightcountylive
wright.blogspot.com
DID YOU KNOW?
About 42,000 adults and 300 children die every year from
vaccine preventable diseases? The WOW Van Mobile Public
Health Office and Immunization Center, travels to 14 differ-
ent Wright County cities each month. We offer a full range of
immunizations for adults and children that are uninsured or
have no vaccine coverage on their insurance. And for the flu
shot or mist, we accept most insurance. Every $1 spent on
childhood immunizations saves $18.40. DID YOU KNOW?
That if detected early physical and mental developmental
issues can prevent lifelong disabilities. These early interven-
tions save $30,000 to $100,000 per child identified with
issues. Wright County Public Health has a Child and Teen
Check-up program, done by trained Public Health Nurses, are
covered by Medical Assistance or a sliding scale fee. Call

1 out of every 3 adults ages 65 and older experience a fall.
If we could prevent just of those falls, 15 billion dollars in
health care cost could be saved. Wright County Public Health
offers Senior Home Safety Resources and 60 Plus and Healthy
clinics. www.seniorresource.com/Senior_Home_Safety_
Checklist.htm
DID YOU KNOW?
Wright County has an Emergency Preparedness Team. This
multi-disciplinary team of individuals from all over the coun-
ty participates in continual training and drills in preparation
for potential disasters and emergencies. This makes Wright
County less vulnerable and more prepared for any type of sit-
uation that may come our way. Visit www.ready.gov to find
out what you can do to be prepared too.
DID YOU KNOW?
Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer for non-smokers and
1 in 3 Minnesota homes has an elevated radon level. Radon
Test Kits and information are available on the WOW Van. The
cost is $6 for the short-term test and $12 for the long term test.
Good health doesnt just happen by chance. Good health is
shaped and nurtured. Its connected to the environments in
which we live, work and play. Its tied to the resources avail-
able in our communities. For example, while diabetes and
obesity can be treated inside a doctors office, the costly and
preventable conditions wont be solved there. Tackling obesi-
ty will take widening access to affordable healthy foods; put-
ting opportunities for physical activity back into our commu-
nities through smarter transportation and land use planning;
educating the public on nutrition; working with industry,
schools and employers on common solutions; and collecting
data to see what works. These are the roles of public health.
In our neighborhoods, workplaces and schools, were asking
people to spread the word about the value of investing in pub-
lic health. Please check out our website at
www.co.wright.mn.us for a schedule of our WOW Van loca-
tions and hours or call us at 763-682-7717 or 1-800-362-

On behalf of the City of Clear Lake, it is my pleasure to wel-
come you.
The citizens of Clear Lake have a great deal of pride in their
city. Clear Lake has a thriving business community, and beau-
tiful residential areas. I am also proud of our residents; cause
with great residents comes a great community to live in.
Our small community has the potential to grow in either
direction, so with the help of residents and city staff we can
work together to make our small community a bigger one.
The City of Clear Lake is also proud of our local Fire
Department; it currently serves the City of Clear Lake and
Clear Lake and Palmer Townships. The department is staffed
with 30 fully trained firefighters/first responders.
History Tidbit The Fire Department was established one
year prior to the Village of Clear Lake being established. That
just shows how important fire and medical protection is to us
as our demands increase. We thank them for all their hard
work and compassion.
As a lifelong resident of Clear Lake, I am excited to work
closely with my fellow council members and city staff to see
that the City of Clear Lake can continue making Clear Lake a
great place to live.

The Clearview Elementary Spanish Emersion School
Student Council won the National Association of Elementary
School Principals National Honor Student Council Award this
year for all their hard work in the school and the community.
The students meet every other week (Academics come
first, said Nigel), to plan their projects and report on what
they have accomplished. The meetings are student-led and
they have to follow their by-laws.
I like to be in student council because we get to do special
jobs, said Kellan, a student council member.
And there are plenty of jobs to go round. Events planned and
sponsored by the Clearview Student Council include raising
1,172 pounds for the Clearwater Food Shelf and providing
treats for all the students once they reached the 2,000 item
mark.
Calyn said she especially enjoys the Veterans Day Program.
The students helped with set-up for the event and served
brunch.
We gave them all gifts we had made, said Calyn. This
year we painted words on rock paperweights.
For Priya and Kaitlyn, working at the food shelf and collect-
ing all the food was the best thing they did.
It was fun to be able to count all the items as they came
in, said Priya. And trying to lift the heavy boxes.
We made a big thermometer on the wall so we could track
our progress until we got to our goal, Kaitlyn said.
Jake and Nigel said their favorite thing to do is work at the
school store, which is run entirely by the students. The stu-
dents have a budget and they are the ones who choose the
inventory for the store.
We sell school supplies and trinkets every Friday, said
Jake. A lot of people come and buy things.
The students serve their customers, count the money and
keep track of their inventory. Sixty percent of the profits the
students make from the store is donated to help local families

in need.
Another 20% is donated to a charitable organization such
as the Salvation Army or the veterans. Ten percent is used to
purchase a treat for the students and the remaining 10 percent
is kept for start-up at the beginning of the next school year.
The needy families are determined by the school social work-
ers.
The students also sometimes hold special fund raisers.
We had a sale of duct tape items to help a disabled student
go on field trips, said Sophie.
The student council wrote a youth resources grant and used
the money to purchase fleece for blankets and pillows. They
also purchased, socks, sweat pants and underwear for the
nurses office, items which get used up pretty quickly each
year.
Last year, the students donated 22 fleece blankets and 15
pillows they had made to the St. Cloud Veterans
Administration. This year, the students made 14 blankets with
the grant money.
Six of the blankets are kept at school and given to students
when they get very ill to let them know their friends are think-
ing about them. The other eight blankets were donated to the
Salvation Army.
The student council organized a fund-raising event for the
American Red Cross to help the people dealing with the
effects of Hurricane Sandy.
The Red Cross came and gave us a presentation about
what they do and how our money helped, said Priya.
The students also write articles for the student newspaper,
The View about school activities. They help promote special
events, such as Veterans Day, American Education Week and
Staff Appreciation Week. They help promote school pride by
hosting Spirit Week and they hold special dress-up days, like
mismatch day or hat day.
The Clearview Student Council students run and judge the
Clean Sweep awards, which recognizes and rewards the
students efforts to promote pride in the school and keep it
clean.
We look for the cleanest classroom, said Kaitlyn. If the
classroom is carpeted, we look for pieces of paper on the
floor.
The winning class gets a fancy breakfast, said Anna.
Among their upcoming events, the student council is host-
ing a talent show at the end of May to recognize their
achievements in the school and in the community, said
Rayna.

Fire Auxiliary a big
part of the community
By Ken Francis
Staff Writer
There are lots of community organizations in the
Clearwater area, and each does its best to help others in its
own way.
One of those organizations is the Clearwater Fire & Rescue
Auxiliary, a non-profit group which has been around for more
than 20 years.
The Auxiliary is unique in the sense that members dont
sign up for the group, but are automatically inducted.
Technically, no one has to join, says Auxiliary president
Abby Broich, wife of firefighter Cory Broich. Its the wives
and significant others of the fire department.
Every year, the Auxiliary puts on a number of community
events, such as the community Easter egg hunt. Its usually
held in one of the citys parks. But this year, because of snow-
cover, the hunt was held at the fire hall, where there were also
prizes for the winners.
The Auxiliary also sponsors the fire open house each
October in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week.
They supply the food, drink, prizes and fun & games for the
kids.
In the summer, the Auxiliary holds the firemens picnic.
Its just for fire families, says Broich, in appreciation of
everything they do for the community throughout the year.
Santa on the fire truck is another event the Auxiliary spon-
sors every first Sunday in December. Kids get bags of treats
and the department collects food for the food shelf.
The Auxiliary hold its big golf outing fundraiser each sum-
mer at Eagle Trace.
We do it to raise funds for prizes, eggs and candy for the
easter egg hunt, food and prizes for the open house, says
Broich.
The Auxiliary may be getting involved in the Heritage
Festival this year, but it is not definite yet.
In addition to community events, one of the Auxiliarys
functions is to support the firefighters on the job. Sometimes
they use funds to purchase small pieces of equipment. But
they are often on-site during a fire call.
When theres a fire, one of the other jobs we do regularly
is have beverages and water out, no matter when it is, says
Broich. We do a call-around tree to see who is available and
then decide what were going to bring. When its cold we
need hot beverages out there right away.
The Auxiliary holds meetings every two months to go over
finances, set up fundraisers and plan future events.
In addition to Broich, the president, other officers are Heidi
Boon vice president, Lisa Pridgeon secretary and Sandee
Verootis treasurer.
