GITEX ramps up ROI with GITEX 2013 plethora of new innovations HIGHLIGHTS
Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has revealed that GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2013 will be the most comprehensive edition in the events history. Under the theme Lets Create, Disrupt and Re-imagine Together, the 33rd edition of the event runs from October 20-24 at DWTC, with Dubai Internet City (DIC) as a strategic partner and Serbia as the official country partner. The event organisers optimism comes as the local IT market continues to go from strength to strength; the latest forecast by Gartner suggests that IT spend in the Middle East will hit US $192.9 billion in 2013, up 5.5% from last year. DWTC also stated that GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEKS reputation for shaping the Middle East Africa and South Asia (MEASA) regions Information and Communication Technology (ICT) agenda is largely attributable to an enduring ability to deliver unbeatable industry insights and strong returns on investment (ROI). Now established as MEASAs top ICT event, and one of the most influential in the world, the 5-day event attracted 139,000 ICT professionals from 144 countries in 2012. Last years Where Technology Means Business tagline proved apt, with 61% of c-level executive visitors boasting procurement budgets of over US $5 million, while 18% had budgets between US $1 million and US $5 million; 13% were prepared to spend US $500,000; and 8% had up to US $500,000. The average deal struck at GITEX 2012 either met or exceeded ROI expectations. With 95% of exhibitors planning to return this year, and a host of newcomers from across the world already signed up, Trixee Loh, Senior

TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2013 is a superb platform for us to demonstrate Qualcomms latest innovations. As well as bolstering this years edition with new features, Dubai World Trade Centre has pulled out the stops to enhance its existing industry sectors. The Network & Security Sector is looking forward to welcoming the worlds top names dealing with biometric technologies, anti-virus/ anti-spam solutions, security tools and services. Top of the agenda will be the regions ever-increasing vulnerability to cyber-attacks. Last years Norton Cybercrime Report found that more than 1.5 million people in the UAE alone were affected by cybercrime in the past 12 months, resulting in AED 1.039 billion in direct financial losses. With the smart card revolution continuing apace, retail banks, telecom operators, governments and large corporations alike are eagerly anticipating GITEX Card Technology, which covers everything from Near Field Communication to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). GITEX Consumer Tech, meanwhile, serves up its customary dazzling lineup of entertainment and leisure hardware, software and accessories. Highlights will include software, gaming accessories, headphones, MP3 and MP4 players, streaming video and video management solutions. As the trade event with the highest government participation in the region, the show has high hopes for the Government sector, which will be packed with ministries, regulatory authorities, free zones and CERTs from the Middle East. As usual, mobility is likely to prove a big draw. The Qualcomm-sponsored GITEX Mobile, Apps & Content World is now the Middle Easts most successful event of its kind, connecting key players and educating attendees about the latest industry developments through forums such as the increasingly popular Mobile App Debates. Further telecommunications insights can be gleaned at the TRAendorsed GULFCOMMS, where representatives and thought leaders will debate the future of the regions telecommunications industry. In addition to the GSMA Mobile 360 Series, GITEX is delighted to welcome InfoComm MEA for the third successive year. The event assembles the widest range of audio visual (AV) systems and technologies found in the hospitality, retail, architecture, entertainment, broadcast, corporate IT and government sectors.

Kaspersky Lab provides protection

Kaspersky Lab will be showcasing its security solutions for businesses and consumers at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. Consumers are catered for by the companys Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Mobile Security products. A strong focus this year will be placed on the enterprise security product, Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business (KESB). KESB is a platform designed to provide a broad array of tools and technologies so that companies can see, control and protect all endpoint devices. It combines its technologies and tools into four tiers, each of which adds its own layer of protection against cyber-threats. The first tier, Core, provides anti-malware technologies. The Select and Advanced tiers offer modern endpoint control and encryption. Total provides protection for each area of the network: web, mail and collaboration servers. At every level, the Kaspersky Security Network provides powerful cloud-assisted protection to every component, and Kaspersky Security Center tools help IT specialists to manage the whole companys IT defences from a single console, says Khalid Abu Baker, Managing Director at Kaspersky Lab Middle East. Abu Baker points out that cyber-attacks aimed at enterprises and individuals are on the increase, resulting in the loss of intellectual property, money and customer information, as well as credibility. Kaspersky Lab works with partners and customers across the region to combat these threats, through the combination of best of breed technologies that encompass security solutions for personal use as well those that can be deployed against a larger enterprise network to ensure a comprehensive state of security. Members of the companys Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) will be at GITEX, providing insight into the evolution of the threat landscape.

Dubai boosts electronics trade

DUBAI Chamber of Commerce and Industry has reported that Dubai has witnessed a remarkable rise in the value of its consumer electronics trade. At the crossroads of the GCC, Asia and Africa, Dubai has great potential to further integrate itself as an indispensable hub for the global ICT services and consumer electronics ecosystem, says H.E. Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The most important determinant for growth in the medium to long term is the lifestyle conscious nature of such products. In the UAE, and the wider GCC, growth prospects for the sector are amplified partly because of the population dynamic of an emerging yet sizeable growing middle income class, H.E. Buamim says. Since 2005, Dubai has seen a remarkable rise in its consumer electronics trade. According to the most recently available statistics from Dubai Customs, Dubais trade in consumer electronics has grown from an estimated AED 24 billion in 2002, to AED 130 billion in 2011. This further underlines

The DHA app provides several services including a list of health services, details of visiting doctors, and the ability to search for information based on location and speciality. Users can also view test results and register as a blood donor. One of the most useful services, according to DHA, is the vaccination synchronisation option, which allows users to track vaccination plans for children. DHA patients who download the application can also view medical evaluation records and related prescriptions, x-rays, laboratory results and more. DHA, created in June 2007, provides strategic oversight for the entire health sector in Dubai and strives to enhance private sector engagement.

H. E. Buamim: Dubais re-export trade continues to flourish.

the fact that Dubai is witness to not only sound fundamentals in conventional industries like tourism, hospitality, retail and real estate, but growth is being seen in off-stream sectors that emphasise Dubais role as an ICT trade hub. Over the five years up to 2011, consumer electronics have

experienced strong volume growth of at least 14% annually, and up to 26% growth in some subcategories. HDS keeps data under control

HITACHI Data Systems (HDS) wants to help organisations transform raw data into valuable information by making it more accessible and simpler to manage. At GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK, the company will demonstrate solutions that aim to help companies manage data growth, cut costs and reduce operational complexity. HDS products and services bring solutions to regional customers that enable them to manage data growth, and collect and connect data to create valuable information. We help organisations cut costs and reduce operational expenses while increasing efficiency and securing information, says Aaron White, General Manager, Middle East & Turkey, Hitachi Data Systems. GITEX is an important way for HDS to engage with existing and potential customers in the Middle East. As data and information grows exponentially, it is vital that organisations in the region are able to manage their critical data while keeping information available. HDS believes three key trends are influencing the storage market: the increasing affordability of flash, converged solutions and a change in consumption models from buying

Navigant sees SaaS potential

NAVIGANT Solutions will concentrate on promoting the NetSuite line of business applications at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2013. The applications offered include ERP, CRM and e-commerce deployments and all offerings are provided on a SaaS basis. Options for regional customers include localisation modules, developed specifically for the Middle Eastern market. GITEX is a critical platform for us to reach and stay connected with our Middle Eastern prospects and customers, says Navigants Hadi Yashruti. Our solutions enable and empower companies with best-ofbreed ERP, CRM and e-commerce solutions developed specifically for the region. The company says it relishes the opportunity to meet with regional decision makers in an effort to continue the development of its Middle East footprint. Apart from NetSuite, Navigant Solutions has partnered with other international players in the cloud space, such as Google and Salesforce.com, as it seeks to widen its global reach.

mass storage up front to paying as you go. HDSs HCP Anywhere makes it possible for data to be accessed from anywhere, at any time. The Hitachi Cloud Portfolio offers solutions and services that enable enterprises to adopt cloud computing models more securely and reliably. HDS recently unveiled significant enhancements to three

key infrastructure solutions: Hitachi Unified Storage VM (HUS VM) all flash system, Hitachi Unified Storage and Hitachi NAS Platform, and Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP). The company claims they can reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by up to 30% compared to alternative solutions and offer double the performance benefits of previous offerings.

CompTIA to promote skills

COMPTIA, an industry association, will this year highlight the threats to Middle East business competitiveness posed by a lack of expertise in emerging technologies. Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO of CompTIA, will deliver a presentation on cloud solutions at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2013, and the association will also highlight its new vendor-neutral cloud certification. Business executives in the Middle East are ready to invest in cloud technologies, but their IT teams often lack the skills to support these key strategic priorities, Thibodeaux says. IT professionals need to demonstrate they have the right skills for the job and increasingly regional executives want to see certification that proves a foundation of knowledge and training in the right technologies. This is what the industry has been telling us, and to help resolve this issue we are launching CompTIA Cloud+ in the region this month. According to CompTIAs annual study, International Technology Adoption & Workforce Issues, 62% of executives in the Middle East are experimenting with or fully using cloud computing solutions within their organisation. Though ahead of the global trend, 30% say a deficit of skills and experience is impacting their ability to innovate.

eHDF brings the cloud to life

eHOSTING DataFort (eHDF) will promote its managed and cloud hosting services at this years GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. eHDF, which also offers disaster recovery and business continuity services, managed co-location and co-location services, will highlight the benefit of using these services during the show. The company reports increasing demand for cloud and managed hosting, and says that GITEX provides a high return on investment by creating specific segments to enable it to meet its core target audience, clients and potential clients. eHDF will be present at the Cloud Confex area, enabling us to network among our peers from local as well as international markets, says Yasser Zeineldin, CEO of eHDF. Clients will get a better understanding of our cloud solutions and at the same time learn more on our upcoming projects. Our team present at the exhibition will be able to provide first-hand information on these services. eHDF says its seen growing demand for cloud services, as companies look to access knowledge, technical expertise and the latest technological innovations from a local provider, with a predictable and economical cost model. We have been continuously investing in the latest technologies in order to provide different routes to deliver this value to clients. Regional CIOs can then allocate their IT resources to innovation and developing business applications rather than spending time on mundane operational activities, Zeineldin says. Today, even at eHosting DataFort, we see our customers demanding not only solutions for cost-cutting measures but also for deriving long term benefits. They see a service provider as an extension of their IT department.

Zeineldin: Clients want to cut capital expenditure.

The platform supports 3D visualisation; geospatial assets such as maps and architectural feeds; and embedded predictive and simulation modelling capabilities. The tools are supported by sophisticated security protocols that iVEDiX pledges will revolutionise the next generation of mobile analytics and data interactivity. Over the past few decades, the Middle East has garnered a reputation for developing early adopters of leadingedge technology, says Ashley Fantigrossi, Director of Marketing and Comms, iVEDiX. The quest to leapfrog traditional product lifecycles is now part of the DNA of the region. GITEX embodies that philosophy, and its growth is indicative of that same sentiment shared by corporations in the region. At this years event iVEDiX hopes to build on the interest it garnered in 2012 by engaging with such regional early adopters. Fantigrossi adds: IVEDiX is a company that has continuously challenged the status quo and has created a product/platform solution engineered from the ground up. It has been designed to be disruptive in the best possible sense, in that its ability to bring big data to mobile devices represents a transformational approach to BI. IVEDiX has seen

an overwhelming interest in miVEDiX, which was launched as a pilot during last years GITEX. The company is a technology partner in Viva Bahrains regional big data projects. The partnership is aimed at moving big data, analytics and interactive mobility to the forefront of operations and growth in the region. IVEDiX is also in the midst of finalising multiple transactions with both government and private organisations to engage in pilot projects for mapping their data to the companys interactive mobile platform. By GITEX 2013, iVEDiX hopes to have both multiple regional offices and a support organisation in place aided by recent regional acquisitions.

The company plans to make new announcements, interact with customers and partners, and showcase its wide range of solutions covering the entire spectrum of IT infrastructure management, at the regions premier ICT event. At GITEX, the company will showcase some of its key products, including solutions for network, server and application management; IT helpdesks; directory and log management; password and security management; and mobile device management. The Middle East is a very important region for us and GITEX is the perfect platform for ManageEngine to reach out to organisations looking for reliable solutions to secure, control and manage their IT ecosystems. Our participation in GITEX last year was a great success and hence this year, we are planning on a bigger and better GITEX, says Nirmal Kumar Manoharan, Regional Director (Sales, Middle East) at ManageEngine. Bigben drives mobile gaming

BIGBEN Interactive will present its new Gamephone Controller for mobile gaming at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. The device is compatible with all Android and iOS tablets and smartphones, which means the Gamephone Controller can synchronise with more than 90% of the mobile devices on the market in Bluetooth mode. It is the accessory that turns your smartphone or tablet into a genuine game console, says Isabelle Houzet, head of marketing, Bigben Interactive. It also wont damage your phone, according to the company. There is no risk to your telephone. The mount provided with the Gamephone Controller has a spring grip that your phone fits perfectly into, keeping it secure, Houzet says. The controllers mount pivots 90, so users can position their phone vertically or horizontally, depending on the game being played. The Gamephone Controller is compact, allowing it to be easily stored and retrieved for gaming opportunities, and a single charge can give up to 15 hours of game play. Bigben Interactive is keen to stress that Bluetooth synchronisation with a mobile device is trouble free. For example, a 4-position switch lets the user quickly change from an iOS device to a device using Android. Compatible games are automatically recognised and, for Android systems, an application allows the user to increase game compatibility in addition to the three possible modes.

Elkhatib: Shifras products help companies protect their most vital assets.

Shifra keeps users updated on threats

SHIFRA Middle East will highlight the importance of information security, mobility and security as a cloud offering at this years GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. The distributor wants to show its reseller partners and end users the latest releases of technology it represents and to update them on the most recent IT threats in the region. Shifra says it will also be sharing with channel partners and their customers best practices in protecting networks against cyber attacks. Our products help companies protect their most valuable asset, their information, from breaches and attacks that have become commonplace in todays interconnected world. We bring in niche technologies that help secure customers data centres, servers, networks and mobile devices, says Ahmad Elkhatib, Managing Partner at Shifra Middle East. Elkhatib says Shifras presence at GITEX helps it to connect with reseller partners, and create greater brand awareness of the products it distributes. We have been able to grow our business with double digit growth in the region, adding new reseller partners and end users in the process. Since last year, we have added two vendors to the list of products we represent and we hope to continue serving our reseller partners and end customers with the same quality of service they have always expected, Elkhatib says.

FIREEYE will demonstrate a threat protection platform designed to combat todays new breed of cyber attacks. Its products are designed from the ground up to stop the kind of advanced malware used by cybercriminals and advanced persistent threat (APT) actors. Each FireEye product features the patented Multi-Vector Virtual Execution (MVX) engine and proprietary virtual machines that block cyber attacks that may leverage one or more threat vectors to infect a client. The FireEye platform supplements traditional security defenses that may not stop advanced malware. The FireEye product portfolio is comprised of FireEye Web Malware Protection System (Web MPS), FireEye Email Malware Protection System (Email MPS), FireEye File Malware Protection System (File MPS), FireEye Malware Analysis System (MAS), and FireEye Central Management System (CMS). Each FireEye MPS and FireEye MAS can connect directly, or via a FireEye CMS, into the FireEye Dynamic Threat Intelligence (DTI) cloud, which offers global threat data sharing to stop advanced persistent threats and zero-day attacks. Citing growing demand for its solutions, FireEye will this year participate for the first time as a standalone exhibitor at GITEX. COMMVAULT will use GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK as a platform to highlight Simpana 10, which helps cut storage-related costs by up to 50%, the company claims. It can also reduce administrative overhead by up to 80% and lower aggregate support costs by up to 35%, CommVault adds. The company plans to use the event as an opportunity to generate awareness of its enterprise consulting and professional services, educational offerings and new predictive analytics support, which were all launched earlier this year. A relentless explosion of Big Data in the Middle East plagues many stakeholders, from IT to legal, as they grapple with how best to retain, access, discover and ultimately delete content in compliance with evolving regulations, says Fiona Moon, Marketing Director, EMEA, Commvault. At the GITEX Big Data conference on October 22nd, CommVault will educate conference attendees about big data management practices. ESET provides a number of security solutions for the home and business environment, which it will highlight at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. For the home, ESET Smart Security is an all in one solution that protects against identity theft, and loss of privacy and personal assets. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is an antivirus package that protects against on-

line and offline threats. Also for the home user are ESET Cyber Security for Mac and ESET Mobile Security For businesses, the company offers ESET Endpoint Security for securing endpoints in any size company and ESET Endpoint Antivirus, which utilises the ThreatSense scanning engine. Complementing these offerings are ESET Mobile Security for Business and ESET Mail Security. During GITEX, we will be launching the ESET Smart Security Version 7, says Neo Neophytou, Managing Director, ESET Middle East. ESET Smart Security 7 comes with Advanced Memory Scanner, Vulnerability Shield and Improved Cleaning. This will stop heavily-encrypted threats that evade detection and help users to stay protected from threats or attacks trying to exploit network vulnerabilities by eliminating extremely persistent malware and rootkits. RIVERBED will be showcasing a wide range of its performance management solutions this year. Highlights include Granit, which simplifies storage data using a centralised data centre; Cascade & OPNET performance management platforms;
