DESCRIPTION
The proposed transaction is to support expansion, augmentation and modernization of AEDC's electricity distribution network in the Akmola province and in a small area within Astana, the nation's capital. AEDC s investment plan from 2013 to 2015 includes rehabilitation and augmentation of 19 substations, 60km of 110kV lines, 142.8km of 10kV lines and 52 km of 0,4kV lines. Further, it will add 1 new substation, 141km of 35kV lines, 114km of 110kV lines and 2 transformers to AEDC s distribution network as well as additional metering devices to improve the automated system for commercial power balancing and settlements.
DEVELOPMENT IMPACT
To promote sustainable economic growth by reducing the risk of power distribution system failure caused by obsolete infrastructure with inadequate maintenance, increasing supply of reliable energy and enhancing access to electricity for households, business and industry. Improved performance of a provincial private sector power utility will act as a showcase for further private sector participation in the sector.

Description of Outcome Progress Towards Outcome
The Project will rehabilitate, augment and expand AEDC's distribution network and system including 2,250 substations, 8,130km of distribution lines, and automated system for commercial power accounting, and measuring devices. Additional power supply is expected through improved distribution infrastructure with additional connection to households and industries while maintaining low technical losses. The Project will achieve the more reliable performance of the power distribution system in the rapidly growing Akmola province and capital region in the north of Kazakhstan, and will prevent network failure caused by obsolete infrastructure with inadequate repair and maintenance.
AEDC's regional distribution network in Akmola province and Astana improved. Repair or modernization of substations. Construction of new substations. Repair or modernization of km distribution lines.
