We learned how to shop at the grocery story. A scavenger hunt helped up to explore reading labels for healthy foods and snacks. We also learned checking out food at the the store. Everyone was a cashier.

What do we need to eat to have healthy bones and muscles. All of the students kept a Daily Food Diary for 24 hour period. Then we researched the calcium in the food we ate. We were paid Bone Bucks for the amount of calcium we each earned.

healthy body is connected to healthy eating and heathy exercise. The Third Grade Team made arrangements with the YMCA to continue the swimming program with our students. We walked to the YMCA every Wednesday and participated in a swim lesson and free play. Students were actively involved in exercise for a full 45 minutes. They enjoyed their time in the pool and are completely grateful to Central Park for supporting the third grade team in providing this service for students

build a healthy Community. Every Friday Morning students in third grade had Morning Meeting in the Big Room. We sat together in a circle and shared a greeting. The Fishing Greeting was our favorite. Then, a lightning share and an activity as well as the morning message. Next, we would buddy walk together around the block. After a lovely morning walk, we all participated in an activity, such as Coseeki, Guess my Name and Electricity Heathy Minds were supported in our project work (see page 2).

Katie Ollendick (UNC/DUKE) WOW! What a fabulous expert to jump start our work. We learned about the things we need to do the have healthy bones and muscles. She also shared interesting facts about bones and muscles.

Doctors ofce
Stop by the Doctors Ofce with Doctor Claire, Doctor and Leah and Doctor Caleb and check yourself in. They will let you know how your are doing. They will take an x-ray of your bone and repair them as needed. They will also teach you what your bones are made of and how to keep them healthy and strong. Free Clinic

Nutrition Station
Stop by our cafe for a nutritious snack. Chef Lily, Chef Chloe and Chef Ella will tell you interesting facts about healthy snacks. Priceless

At W.A.M.M this week the Wellness Committee delivered a healthy breakfast snack for all of the classes to try. We were given a box full of treats. Each class received yogurt, cranberries, granola, chopped apples and fresh raspberries to name a few. Our class returned an empty box! Thank you Wellness Committee and Michelle Rockwell. Later that day, a Dietitian came from UNC with a star Offensive Linesman, #68 Josh

Technology
Gerren will show you how to use the Foss software to build your own skeleton. Miguel will time your muscle reexes.

ART
Marilyn and Joshua will teach you how to use art to support drawing about the body. Learn how to make gestures and proportions too! Also see all of the art we created with Lucia.

The Lab
Cellular Biologist Researchers McKenna and Derek will teach you all there is to know about the cell. Look into the microscope to see a real onion cell. The Vole Skeleton Watch and learn as Max and Leyla wow you with their vast knowledge about Barn Owls. Try to recreate the skeletal system of a real vole.

Information Booth and JEOPARDY


Visit the information booth to get a copy of the games that students created. Charlie and Jacob created a Jeopardy game about the Human Body.
