PREFACE
Watermelons generally grow in the summertime; there is a season and time for all things. Polarity Therapy and Acupuncture are not to be accepted as types of religious practice, although they do border on sacred knowledge. Sincere application of these disciplines introduces a sense of physical and psychological well being and prepares the ground work for higher life. The world has never been without stress and disorientation, but with mass international communication, we are now better informed about the kind of things that have perennially caused distress and tension. Atom bombs have replaced sticks and the evening news has made the family problems of international man/woman a part of everyones daily consciousness. Many of these social conditions point to the need for a more intelligent and lovingly gentle way of life for the planet at this time. Dr. Randolph Stone was the founder of Polarity Therapy. He was an eclectic and student of many disciplines who received degrees in Osteopathy, Chiropractic and Naturopathy. He also studied Acupuncture. One of his main sources of knowledge was Ayurvedic medicine, the ancient wisdom of India. I learned Polarity Therapy from Pierre Pannetier; who carried on Dr. Stones work after his retirement, and from years of studying Dr. Stones writings. Polarity Therapy is a combination of the hand manipulations of Osteopathy and Chiropractic combined with the ancient knowledge practiced by yogis and Ayurvedic doctors of the body's energy fields. In a Polarity session, the life energy is balanced more by hand manipulation than by body postures common to yoga, although postures do play a role in Polarity. Hand manipulation (massage) is a long-time tradition in Ayurvedic medicine. This book presents some of the theories, philosophies and practices of Polarity, Ayurveda and the AcuPolarity treatment. The Polarity treatment, Polarity yoga, and the Acu-Polarity treatment are demonstrated on two videos. Further information can be found at:

These practices are offered with the hope of presenting at least some constructive lifestyle alternatives. They can be successfully applied by anyone of any economic, social, philosophical or religious background. If the time for these practices to flourish is now, and if they can be of any assistance in ushering in more harmony, understanding and peace, let it be so

INTRODUCTION ACU-POLARITY MEDICAL PHILOSOPHY

The term Acu-Polarity has its background in Ayurvedic Medicine, the ancient wisdom of India and Oriental medicine, the teachings of Chinese Acupuncture and herbology. Nevertheless, this book is not trying to represent those teachings as they are now, or how they have been practiced in India and the Orient, but rather to help the reader understand a practical truth. The first thing to look at is our manner of perception, internally as in mysticism and externally, as in science and technology. Science uses analysis and division of consciousness into the object and the observer. Science and technology are very impressive. For example, if someone invented a solar battery that could be mounted on the hood of a car to make it run on energy from the sun, we would all benefit from this in an obvious way. The inventor would become rich and famous. In mystical experience, to know is to become one with the object of knowledge. There is no division of consciousness but an experience of oneness. Regardless of the time or country, there is universal agreement on this among those who have had the experience. This, however, is not as overtly impressive as are the discoveries of technology. If someone tells us they have experienced a heightened state of awareness, we are vi not sure. The person may be delusional, or we may simply not understand what is meant without having had the experience ourselves. Both Ayurvedic and Oriental medicine acknowledge that man/woman is the microcosm and the Universe the macrocosm. The physical universe is recognized as a level of consciousness that devolved in a step down process from a higher and primary source of energy and awareness. Darwinian evolution encourages us to think the opposite: that we evolved from the elements and lower life forms. In Polarity, the elements are considered the most negative pole of the original source energy manifestation. In Polarity, all creation evolved from and rotates around a center, whether one considers cells and atoms or universes. The task in energetic medicine is to understand the physical in terms of the higher energies. In the spiritual sciences, a purely spiritual philosophy with no physical reality is no longer accepted. Likewise, the physical sciences can no longer be understood without reference to the higher energies and consciousness as the source.
