Describe an interesting film you saw recently. You should say; What is the title?

When did you see it? What is the story about? And explain why this movie was interesting to you.

Last summer, my family and I went to AMC Movie Theater in Cupertino and enjoyed a movie entitled Journey to the Center of the Earth. It was a Science Fiction and adventure movie in three-dimensions. We enjoyed state-of the-art computer graphics in the movie. For instance, when a dinosaur chased the characters, I was on edge as if I were with them. The movies plot started from the idea that another world exists deep inside of the earth with a variety of unusual creatures. It showed the directors extensive imagination and creativity. I was preoccupied with the movie while watching it. It was really entertaining, with a lot of incredible and amazing things that made me forget my day-to-day stress. My kids enjoyed it a lot as well. It was a great family movie. There was no violent scene and I believe the movie allowed my children to enhance their imagination. As I like surreal, unusual and unbelievable things in SF movies, the movie was the most interesting movie that I have ever seen.

Do you like movie?

Yes, I like very much. In fact, it is the most important recreation for me. -I prefer to watch movie with my family because I feel very happy when we share the enjoyment of those movies. -Frankly, I enjoyed science or science fiction movies very much. Because those movies can fire my imagination, excite my curiosity. For I am a computer engineer, Id like to image what would like in the future. Besides, I am very curious about the stories of scientists. In science related to movies, I like the story of scientists very much, including a last film, called a beautiful mind. This film told us the unusual experience about John Nash, a famous scientist. Also, I have watched many science fiction films, such as AI-Artificial Intelligence and the Star War. Those films reveal a kind of humans worry: with the fast development of science and technology, what kind of role should human play in the future? How to tackle those contradictions between people and the intelligent machine, such as robot? Though I can not exactly answer those questions, I can attain some useful inspiration from movies. -Of course, there are many differences. First, the sound effect is very good in cinema; Second, the screen is bigger than that in home, so audience can fully enjoy the splendid view in the movie. In addition, the atmosphere is more exciting with others watching the same movie.

Q. What kinds of movies do you like the most? I like action and Sci-fi movies. When I watched ET(The Extra-Terrestrial) 1982. about 16 years ago, I was greatly impressed seen such a special effects' technology has been changed and developed rapidly. These days, it is hard to find any movies without using special effects, and those advances enabled the film makers to tell their stories in different and often effective ways.

Q. What are the effects of movies on people? Movies give lessons of life or highlight certain historical or cultural events that are important in human history, politics, culture, and so on. They present human values or

ideas about the world and inform what happened or is happening around us. While providing valuable information, they can also offer entertainment. Depending on what kind of movies you watch, you can relieve your stress, be entertained or impressed, and be informed. Movies can be one form of news media and be reflective of our society and time. Q. Do you believe that the movie rating system is necessary for current films? Yes, definitely. Nowadays, there are too many films which contain violent and sexual contents. So, it's very harmful for children or teenagers. Thus, it is inevitable to have rating system to distinguish the people who can see the film from those who cannot. Q. What do you think about the violence on TV or in films? The violence on TV or in films is terrible nowadays. It seems like movie producers do not care about innocent children or teenagers who might be affected by those horrible scenes. There was an incidence that one child imitated the crime on a film and killed his brother. So, I think there should be much strict laws against the violence on TV. Q. Do you think movies are better recently than they were in the past? As far as special effects are concerned, yes, movies are definitely better now. But I don't think the stories are necessarily better than those produced in the past. In fact, I think a lot of the time movie markers concentrate too much on special effects and forget about a plot.

Q. What sort of topics do movie producers consider for the films? Since movies try to picture out the reality as well as virtual world, movie producers consider every possible topic which can happen in a real world and combine it with our

imagination. Nowadays, the trend is moving toward SF movies since people are excited to see the virtual world. Q. What do you think about the movie industry? I think it is a very risky industry in terms of money. Movies cost a lot to make, and if a movie becomes a hit it draws in big profits, but if it flops, the losses can be huge. Although, I think being involved in the movie-making business would be a lot of fun, especially as an actor. You know, one day they play a beggar, the next day a hero or someone from the future. I think it'd be a really interesting job. . What is the difference between Korean and American films? Thats an interesting / good / broad / tough question. Allow me to explain my personal views by shortly mentioning the following points: Firstly, I believe that Korean films are more realistic than those from America. For instance, many American movies are based on science fiction. In addition, much more money is spent on the production of American movies. For example, the film Titanic has been cited as the most expensive film ever made. In addition, I think that American films are much more liberal than Korean ones. To be more specific, the amount of violence in them is much greater than their Korean counterparts. Lastly, I am of the opinion that Korean films mainly use the drama, gang genre, where American movies cover all types. What I mean to say is that Korean producers seldom attempt to make SF or horror movies.

On weekends, with my family 4. Why are special effects used in so many films? Why? To make it more interesting. To create surreal creatures and situations. To enhance real situations. 5. What do you think of animated films? Do not like them. Want to see the real thing. 6. In your opinion, what could cinemas do to attract more people? Reduce prices during the week.
