Storage Store materials above ground and protect from dirt water and grease. Part 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 GENERAL All goods and products covered by these specifications shall be procured, when available, form in-Kingdom manufacturers, or from manufacturers in other Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Procurement of all goods and products manufactured elsewhere must be approved by Consultant. 2.02 MATERIALS A. B. Only new reinforcement materials shall be furnished. Regular reinforcement shall be free of lose rust, mill scale, deleterious amount of salts or coatings which reduce or destroy bond. Tight rust and surface discoloration will be acceptable, provided the weight and the dimensions, including height of deformations and tensile properties of a test specimen which has been wire-brushed by hand, are not less than those required by the applicable Codes and Standards. Regular reinforcement shall be deformed reinforcement conforming to ASTM A 615M, A 616, A 617, or 706, Grade 60, and/or SASO 2. Epoxy coated reinforcement shall conform to ASTM A775 and requirements of this specification. Welded steel wire fabric shall conform to ASTM A 185 or A 497.

Plain wire for spiral reinforcement shall conform to ASTM A 82. Bar supports and accessories shall be plastic coated wire, conforming to the requirements of ACI 315, CRSI MSP, and/or precast concrete blocks spaced to maintain required cover. The precast blocks shall be equal in quality to the class of concrete specified for the Work.

FABRICATION A. Fabrication requirements apply to both shop and site work. Reinforcement steel shall be accurately bent, cut or formed to the dimensions and configurations shown on the Contract Drawings and within the tolerances specified in CRSI MSP or, ACI 315. During fabrication all reinforcement shall be bent cold using pin sizes in accordance with ACI 318. Reinforcement steel having a reduced section, kirks, visible transverse cracks at bends, or otherwise damaged in any way, shall not be used. The ends or regular reinforcement bars which are to be mechanically connected for splices shall be saw cut only, in accordance with tolerances provided in references of Subsection 2.03A. Welding of reinforcing steel bars is not allowed. Spiral reinforcement shall be accurately fabricated to the diameter and pitch shown on the Contract Drawings. One and one-half (1-) finishing turns shall be provided at both the top and bottom, unless shown otherwise on the Contract Drawings. Bar bending and cutting equipment for epoxy coated bars shall haved padded supports at contact areas and shall be fitted with approved nylon or plastic mandrels.

CORROSION RESISTANT REINFORCEMENT ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Corrosion resistant reinforcement when shown on the Contract Drawings shall be fusion-bonded epoxy coated reinforcement and shall meet the requirements of ASTM A 775 and of this Specification. The coated bars shall be supplied from a Consultant approved coating supplier, using Consultant approved epoxy resins. Site patching to damaged epoxy coating is permitted and shall be performed as specified in Section 2.04.6. Additional requirement for epoxy coated reinforcement: a. At least 95% of the surface of the rebar shall have a cured coating film thickness between 0.18 and 0.30 mm. No film thickness shall be less than 0.15 mm or more than 0.33 mm. Testing for continuity of bonding at the coating facility shall cover 100% of the coated surfaces. The data collected shall be retained

with all other quality control data, and shall be traceable to the batch number or other means of product identification adopted by the manufacturer. Where automated monitoring equipment is used, it shall set off an alarm in the event of: c. the specified number of holidays being exceeded. failure of the holiday detection system.

The allowable number of holidays shall be carried out at the site by O bending the bars through 180 round a circular padded mandrel having six times the nominal diameter of the bar. The frequency of the test shall be as specified in ASTM A 775. No cracking or disbondment of the coating shall be visible to the unaided eye on the outside radius of the bent bar.

5.

All coated bars shall be inspected for coating damage on arrival at the site and after installation (before concrete pour). Coating damage in any one meter length, excluding sheared and cut ends, shall not exceed 1% of the surface area of the bar. Bars which do not comply with this requrement shall be discarded. When the epoxy coating is damaged (cut ends, accidental damage, etc.), the coating shall be repaired with patching material conforming to ASTM A 775. Grind smooth cut ends before patching. Patch material shall be furnished by the coated rebar supplier in sufficiently quantity to repair all shipping and site damage to coating and shall be applied following the recommendations of the rebar supplier. Repair to damaged area shall be carried out as soon as possible, and before oxidation of the surface occurs. Any trace of rust or oxidation shall be removed by grinder or wire brush prior to touch-up. Any epoxy coated reinforcement which has delaminated or split coating shall be rejected. For epoxy coated reinforcement, coating thickness, holidays, bend test adhesion, and other requirements, per ASTM A 775 and additional requirements under this Sub-section, are subject to verification in the field by independent check testing by laboratories under contract to the Consultant.

Part 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 PLACEMENT A. Reinforcement shall be placed in accordance with the Contract Drawings or approved placement drawings. Only reinforcement that is free of oil, dirt, loose mortar or other deleterious materials, which affect bonding capacity, shall be installed. After installation, the reinforcement shall be maintained in a clean condition until the concrete is placed.

C. All intersections of the regular reinforcement shall be securely tied with 16 ga. Minimum, (1.6 mm) black annealed wire. Crossing bars shall not be tack welded. All ties and tie wire ends shall be oriented away from the exposed concrete surfaces. Reinforcement shall be supported by supports specified in Sub-section 2.02. G. Projecting portion of reinforcement embedded in concrete shall not be field bent unless concurrence has been obtained from Consultant. Procedure for bending shall be based on the Contractors recommendations. Consultant shall be advised of any installed epoxy coated reinforcement configuration needing rework. Modifications of installed epoxy coated reinforcement shall be subject to Consultant approval. Where epoxy coated reinforcement is specified, all chairs, tie-wires or other devices used to connect, support, secure or fasten epoxy coated reinforcement shall be coated with a dielectric material, such as nylon, epoxy or plastic. All visible damage to the reinforcement coating shall be repaired immediately after installation. Lap splices for epoxy coated with regular reinforcement shall not be in contact with each other. The contractor shall provide an electrical separation of the surfaces of the two types of reinforcement at the lap interface. Procedures for repair procedures for repairs of damage to epoxy coating shall be submitted to consultant for review and approval. All damaged areas shall be repaired. Repairs to damaged areas shall be carried out as soon as possible and before oxidation of the surface occurs. Any trace or rust of oxidation shall be removed by grinder or wire brush prior to touch-up. Concrete Protection Minimum concrete cover for reinforcement of concrete in CRSIs (ref. ACI 318M-83, Chapter 7, Section 7.7) if not specified in the drawings. L. Tolerances Place reinforcing bars to tolerances specified in CRSIs Manual of Standard Practice for Reinforced Concrete Construction.
