DESIGN CRITERIA: A. Contractor shall check the design duties of each fan and produce detailed system pressure design calculations for each fan system for approval by the Supervising Engineer. Contractor shall check the operation, performance and system design of each terminal unit to provide even distribution of air flow at a low velocity and consistent pressure drop at all times regardless of air volume damper position.

ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS A. The Contractor shall submit to the Supervising Engineer the names of three manufacturers and their products which will be acceptable under this section. Approval of the manufacturer or product must be obtained before proceeding with associated work. Units shall be the product of a manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of these units issuing complete catalog data for same. Items of same function and performance are acceptable in conformance with applicable sections. The Contractor shall submit to the Supervising Engineer for his approval the names of three manufacturers and their products which will be acceptable under this section.

GENERAL A. B. Provide and install items as listed in the Fan Schedules. Equivalent fan selections shall not decrease motor horsepower (wattage), increase noise level, increase top speed by more than 10%, or increase inlet air velocity by more than 20%, from that specified. Fan performance based on sea level conditions. Terminal units performance based on tests conducted in accordance with ASHRAE Standard 36-72.

SELECTION AND BALANCING A. Provide fans capable of accommodating static pressure variations of plus or minus 10%. Provide balanced variable sheaves for motors to provide not less than 20 percent speed variation. Statically and dynamically balanced fans to eliminate vibration or noise transmission to occupied areas of the building. Provide belt guards on belt driven fans. Provide safety screen where inlet or outlet is exposed. Provide terminal unit designed to provide automatic zone control for low velocity constant volume air distribution systems. Provide damper controller to be mounted outside the unit for easy service. Provide fast-acting room thermostat.

Prime coat fan wheels and housing at factory inside and outside. Prime coating on aluminum parts is not required. All ferrous parts to have one coat of chlorinated rubber primer, followed by two top coats of weather resistant baked enamel.

CENTRIFUGAL FANS A. Fans shall be fully enclosed single width, or double-width double inlet as required. Fan wheels shall have forward curved blades, capable of handling total air volume and static pressures. All rotating components and assemblies shall be rigidly constructed accurately balanced both statically and dynamically, and free from objectionable vibration or noise. Fan wheels shall be driven by motor mounted internally on heavy gauge adjustable slide base frames and utilizing fixed or variable pitch V-belt drives. Fan shafts, wheels and bearings shall be selected to operate at 25% below first critical speed. Provide V-belt drives with fan and motor mounted on reinforced, rigid steel base with adjustable motor mount. Provide heavy duty, self-aligning, anti-friction bearings with external lubrication. Fans and pulleys shall be keyed to the shafts and designed for continuous operation at maximum motor horsepower and speed. Fan outlet shall be designed for the attachment of angles and bolts for attaching flexible connections. Provide where indicated variable inlet vanes. Provide access door and drain connection to scroll. Motor shall have a drip proof enclosure with across the line starter. Motor speed shall not be greater than 1800 r.p.m.

ROOF MOUNTED FANS A. Fans shall be centrifugal type with a weather-tight housing and turned down rectangular base constructed of aluminum or glass-fiber reinforced high impact plastic. Provide V-belt drives with fan and motor mounted to main housing through neoprene anti-vibration pads. Reinforce housings for 500mm diameter wheels and larger. Provide multi-blade, rattle free, back draft damper with felt lined blade edges, bird screen, and curb caps.

Fan wheel shall be constructed of non-ferrous material with backward inclined blades, non-overloading power characteristics and statically and dynamically balanced. Motor shall be totally enclosed, squirrel cage, induction type. Refer to Section 16150. Motor shall be outside of exhaust air stream. Provide each unit with a non-fused disconnect switch under the weather proof hood. Provide roof curb self flashing of galvanized steel with continuously welded seams and factory installed nailer strip.

PROPELLER FAN A. B. Directly connect steel or aluminum blade fans with heavy hubs to motor. Provide motor with self-aligning ball or sleeve bearings and adequate lubricating arrangements. Cast or die form mountings to smooth curves. Supply size to fit openings provided. Provide safety screens at inlet and back draft dampers on outlet. Use neoprene vibration isolation between fan assembly and mounting plate.

Not used. MOTORS AND MOTOR STARTERS A. Provide fan motors. Motors shall be squirrel cage induction type, totally enclosed with maximum speed of 1800 r.p.m. unless otherwise stated. Refer to Schedule of Equipments for some technical aspects. Motor starters shall be provided under electrical section and installed in relevant motor control center. Refer to applicable sections.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. B. Supply and install sheaves as necessary for final air balancing. Set roof mounted fans on curbs. Provide acoustic insulation on duct to below roof line and on fan inlet plenum, and drip pan for collecting condensation. Provide sound attenuators or sound attenuating roof curb, as indicated and to prevent noise break in to occupied spaces. Noise criteria in occupied spaces shall not exceed specified design levels. Install terminal units on trapeze hangers and provide flexible connections between the unit and ducts.

3.02

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS A. B. Connect all fans to a motor control center and as indicated in wiring diagrams. All control, instrumentation and power wiring shall be part of electrical works and shall be in accordance with the relevant electrical specifications.

3.03

CLEANING A. B. All cleaning shall conform to applicable sections. Do not operate fans for any purpose, temporary or permanent until all duct work is clean, filters in place, bearing lubricated and fan has been run under observation.

3.04

TESTING AND BALANCING All field testing and balancing shall conform to applicable sections.

3.05

OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE DATA Operating and maintenance data shall be supplied in conformance with applicable sections.
