NOISE&VIBRATION CONTROL The work shall include the supply, installation and testing of a complete system of noise andvibration

isolation to dampen and eliminate all structural borne vibration and air noise producedby the electromechanical equipment as described herein below and as detailed on the drawings. Supporting reports recognized approved specialist shall be submitted to the consultant forapproval. Such study shall be submitted at the time the equipment are submitted for approval. The cost of the study, implementation, additional cost to the contract value. GENERAL The contractor shall be responsible for Employment of noise and vibration treatment specialist. The contractor shall supply and install all materials as required by the specialist for noise andvibration treatment who will be responsible for the performance of these materials. The noise and vibration control specialist shall be responsible for collecting data both the builder and the MEP contractor. The contractor shall submit a detailed report showing all data, recommended material, shopdrawings and levels of treatment.Materials specified for noise and vibration treatment covered under architectural section shall besupplied and installed by the builder.Materials specified under this section shall be supplied by the MEP contractor. ACOUSTIC AND NOISE CONTROL The contractor shall supply and fix acoustic insulation and noise attenuator units where necessary to reduce the air borne nose transmission through the distribution duct system, so that the specifiednoise criteria levels are satisfied. Sound Attenuators The sound attenuators shall be constructed from galvanized steel casing with drilled galvanized external flanges of rectangular cross section. The splitter and side wall linings shall be of resin bonded mineral wool faced with woven glass fiber material which prevents the mineral wool being

eroded into the air stream. The splitters shall be held in pre-galvanized steel frames. Installation The sound attenuators shall be installed as indicated on drawings. Attenuators shall be mounted hard up against the plant room wall to prevent the possibility of high plant room sound pressure levels reentering the duct system on the 'quiet' side of the silencer. If attenuators cannot be installed in this position, the ductwork on the 'quiet' side of the attenuator shall be lagged externally upto the plant room wall with acoustic insulation to prevent flanking transmission. Site Sound level Test Noise levels resulting from the air-conditioning system shall be tested with a sound level meter with an octave band analyzer to record sound pressure levels against the mid frequency of each octave band. In octave bands centered on 250Hz and above, three random measuring stations shall be taken, none closer than 2 metres from the outlet and none closer than 1 meter to any room surface. In octave bands centered at 63 Hz and 125 Hz, this random measuring station shall be taken as above. The design criteria levels shall then meet the arithmetical average of the random readings and be no more than 2dB over the specified curve and no more than 3 dB over at 125 Hz and 5 dB over at 63 Hz. Construction The construction of attenuators, conforming to the recommendations of the ASHRAE, shall apply to the construction of rectangular attenuators. The casing and end flanges shall be manufactured from high quality pregalvanized mild steel sheet. Flanges drilled to standard. The acoustic splitters shall be made separately before assembly in the casings and the acoustic lining materials shall be enclosed in a pregalvanized, perforated, mild steel sheet frame. The design shall incorporate half splitters on the side walls of the attenuator to minimize flanking problems and to ensure that the quoted test performance is not reduced as a result of unequal distribution of

sound energy across the face of the attenuator. The acoustic infill material from which the splitters and half splitters are made shall be totally inorganic and incombustible having a class I rating for the surface spread of flame with a minimum density of 26.00 kg per cubic metre.

VIRBATION ISOLATION GENERAL The contractor shall prepare all necessary drawings and sketches showing exactly in place all anchor bolts, drains or any other required opening which is deemed necessary for the proper installation of the equipment. These drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval priorto construction. The vibration isolators shall be positioned in accordance with the manufacturer recommendationsfor the equipment load distribution. The equipment shall be located exactly over or between the mounts with no overhang.Static deflection of the vibration isolators shall not be less than that recommendation in theASHRAE handbooks and/or vibration specialist. The vibration isolators shall be treated against corrosion. The steel components shall be PVCcoated. The nuts, bolts and washer shall be zinc electro plated. ISOLATION HANGERS Isolation hangers shall be used for suspended pipes and equipment.Isolation hangers are rubber or spring or a combination of both. Rubber Hanger Shall be of the rubber-in shear type. It consists of: A high grade rubber block with suspension rod and an outside steel housing. The steel housing will anchored to the ceiling slab and the suspension rod shall support theequipment. The rubber shall be protected against corrosion due to oil or other damaging agents.

Spring Hangers Shall be of the open mounting type and shall consist of a steel spring between a top and bottomplate with an adjustment bolt or levelling. The spring should be designed to provide horizontal stiffness at least 75% of vertical stiffness toassure stability, 50% travel beyond rated load and safe solid stresses. ISOLATION MOUNTS Isolation mounts shall be used between equipment and concrete base and at the loading points of the equipment as recommended by the manufacturer. Rubber Mounts Shall be of the rubber in- shear type with a cub shape or integrated ribbed rubber pad.The pad shall have two bolts holes for isolator anchorage to concrete base.Rubber mounts shall not be used for deflection requirement larger than 8 mm. Spring Mounts shall be of the restrained steel spring mountings and shall incorporate hold down bolts to limit vertical movement. The isolator shall include an acoustical barrier of rubber pad bonded to the base plate to preventtransmission of very high frequency vibration and noise and be corrosion protected when installedoutdoors. The spring should be designed to provide horizontal stiffness at least 75% of vertical stiffness toassure stability, 50% travel beyond rated load and safe solid stresses. CONCRETED FOUNDATION BLOCKS / INERTIA BASE Reinforced concrete foundation block or concrete inertia base for each piece of equipment shall be constructed of minimum thickness as shown on the Drawings, with a minimum weight equal to at least two times that of the equipment and in accordance with the recommendations of the equipment manufacturer and/or vibration specialist. Bases shown on drawings or included in these specifications represent the minimum requirements of the engineer. Additional cost due to additional requirements by specialist shall be borne by the Contractor within his contract price.

PIPING SYSTEM VIBRATION ISOLATORS All piping connected to rotating machinery shall be supported by hangers and supports including Vibration isolators/restraints shall be connected to the equipment by means of acoustic flexible connectors. The first three hangers from the equipment should provide the same deflection as the equipment isolator, the remaining hangers shall be spring or combination spring and rubber, incorporating a spring with a least 19 mm deflection. INERTIA BASES Each chilled water pump and each chiller shall be supported on an inertia base. Base shall consist of pre-engineering welded steel frames suitable for concrete pouring, welded in concrete reinforcement, equipment mounting bolts and vibration isolator brackets. Base shall mount on spring vibration isolators which shall be of high deflection, free standing, unhoused large diameter, laterally stable steel springs assembled into a upper load plate and leveling assembly and into lower load plate and noise isolation pad assembly. Other equipment which are found by the Engineer, which require inertia bases, shall be of the same specifications as above and shall be part of the Contractors obligation without additional cost. VIBRATION TESTS All equipment provided shall be inspected to ensure that it is installed and commissioned from excessive vibration. Any minor vibration which may occur shall not be transmitted from equipment into or through the supportingor enclosing structure. Should engineer consider that excessive vibration is present, such as towarrant the need for specialist testing apparatus and personnel, then the Contractor shall engage and employ such specialist service. The contractor shall bear the cost of rectification of the installations as well as the cost of the specialist services in order to meet the design requirements. Brackets and hangers shall be tested to sustain a load of eight times the actual operating load.
