Season Scouting Report Arkansas (9/28/2013) Last Year Began the year ranked #8, ended up going 4-8

8 and having one of the worst seasons in school history Hired a new coach in the offseason o Brett Bielema (former coach for Wisconsin) We beat them 58-10 last year This Year Are 3-1 Wins o Louisiana (34-14) o Samford (31-21) o Southern Mississippi (24-3) Loses o Rutgers (28-24) o Gave up a 17-point lead. Offense was shut down o Rutgers had 3 turnovers while Arkansas had none, and Arkansas still lost Offense Type o Rush focused o Currently 12th in the SEC (out of 14) in scoring offense o 3rd in the SEC for rushing offense though o In the games they won, they rushed the ball quite a bit. o Only returned 4 offensive starters Quarterback o Brandon Allen 5 touchdowns, 1 interception 59.1% completions Pocket passer, not a runner Injured in the 3rd game of the season o AJ Derby Backup Pocket passer, not a runner Running-backs o Alex Collins Very talented running-back 481 yards so far this season Averaged 5.6 yards per carry

o Johnathon Williams Very talented too 418 yards so far this season Averages 6.6 yards per carry Wide Receiver o Javontee Herndon 200 yards this season o Hunter Henry 125 yards this season Tight End o Mitchell Loewen o Brett Bielema typically utilizes tight ends quite a bit in his offensive scheme. Has not used them too much this year though due quarterback restrictions Offensive Line o Has allowed the most sacks of any SEC team this season o Has been successful at creating gaps for running-backs though Strengths o Two great running-backs Weaknesses o Quarterback passing o All new offensive coaches o 3rd down conversions

Defense Type o Leads the SEC in sacks o Returned 7 defensive starters Defensive Line o Strength of the defense o Robert Thomas o Darius Philon o Returning defensive ends Trey Flowers Chris Smith Linebacker o Not a whole lot of experience at the linebacker position o Jarrett Lake o Martell Spaight Defensive Back o Could not stop Rutgers passing game last week o Their biggest weakness on defense o Eric Bennett (S) Cornerback

o Tevin Mitchell (CB) o Will Hines (CB) Strengths o Rush defense o Defensive line o Putting pressure on the QB Weaknesses o Pass defense

Special Teams Zach Hoker o Has made every extra point and field goal attempted this season o Had a 53 yard FG Punt defense allowed Rutgers a punt return for a touchdown Key Players RBAlex Collins and Johnathon Williams Key Matchups Our linebackers and defensive line against their talented running-backs Our receivers (and hopefully tight end Cam Clear) against their struggling secondary Josh Lambo (A&M kicker) vs himself Taylor Bertolet (A&M kicker) vs himself What to Watch For Texas A&Ms Defense Improving o Last game the Aggie defense started to show signs of life. Several veteran players who had not performed in the first three games were benched (namely Clay Honeycutt and Donnie Baggs). Mark Snyder moved Deshazor Everett (CB) over to safety while moving Toney Hurd (DB) to cornerback for the majority of the game. The moving around of players and positions seemed to help quite a bit last week. This week is a huge challenge as our struggling rush defense faces a very rush focused offense. Unique Texas A&M Blitzes to Put Pressure on the Opposing Quarterback o Last week we saw A&M blitz over and over again. In the 4th quarter, Mark Snyder called a blitz on almost every play. These blitzes were from linebackers some of the time, but also occasionally from safeties and cornerbacks as well. A&Ms defensive line simply cannot put enough pressure on the quarterback, so this seems to be Mark Snyders new strategy. Pay attention to see what A&Ms defense throws at the Hogs. Texas A&Ms Kicking Game

o Many coaches describe kicking as AT least 80% mental. Very little physical ability. One thing to remember about Taylor Bertolet is that he was the top kicking recruit in the entire nation 3 years ago (I think it was 3). Josh Lambo has a video of himself making field goals as far back as 70 yards! Yet both miss a shocking number of extra points (20 yards or so). These are talented players that just lack confidence. Fans crossing their fingers whenever A&M is kicking and fans groaning with every missed kick will only her their mental psyche more. Also, something to keep in mind is that many of the missed FG and extra points have actually been the fault of the placeholder (Drew Kaser). Something to think about What Else You Should Know Texas A&Ms defense is currently ranked last in the SEC in pretty much every area. Floyd Raven is still out (broken collar bone) Trey Williams is DTD (day-to-day) with his high ankle sprain Arkansas Athletics decided to refuse to allow A&Ms band to perform at halftime (wanted more time for their own halftime performance). So, the FTAB decided to cancel their plans on going to this game. Arkansas Athletics also has a policy that does not allow live animal mascots on the sidelines. So, for the first time in A LONG TIME, A&Ms first lady Reveille will not be attending the game. This is the last time there will be a true home and away team for at least 10 years. A new contract was signed between both schools that will schedule this game to played at Cowboys Stadium (or as TexAgs calls it, the Death Star) for the next 10 years. Manziel has yet to lose an away game in his career Sumlin has won his last 15 away games Prediction: 48-27 *This will be Kevin Sumlins 50th career win (he is currently at 49-20)
