Week one at the Isle Lose It Boot Camp reporter SELINA MAYCOCK has discovered a new way of cooking, faced a food phobia and experienced feeling like a human

In for the long stretch

this image soon switched to one of Gladiators when Sue gave us our instructions for the Accumulator. Six moves against the buzzer, which included press-ups, squats and the rock climber. Ill be honest, within five minutes I thought, oh gosh, what have I let myself in for? I want to go home and pretend I never signed up for this, but I remembered determination means never give up. So, on I battled. With just a 30-second break in between mud squelching, slipping and sliding, it was into the second-half. Tiger balm is my secret friend for soothing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Its a herbal balm which originates from the Far East but, as good as it is, the next day I just had to ride out my cowgirl walk YeeAAAGHH! Day two Desperate to see some results I tried on my old jeans to see if the button was any nearer well a girls got to try . Day three I was so proud of myself to eat a full banana for the first time in my life. I have a phobia of bananas, I dont like them at all. As a child I couldnt even finish one in a race against my brother to win a pound from our mum. But throughout boot camp I have a feeling me and bananas are going to be best friends. I didnt enjoy starting the different exercises for session two, my legs were still stiff from the first session and all the squats seemed to just make things worse, but by the end I had loosened up. Day four Aches subsided but I felt a bit sickly . Im not sure why, it could have been my body getting used to a detox, but whatever it was it soon passed. Day Five I felt geared up for a good workout and looked forward to having the weekend to recover and restock the fridge. f Join me next week to find out how the second week at camp turns out and as I discover the first week weigh-in results. In Brief
POLICE officers in the region are a step closer to having equipment to test motorists suspected of drug driving, the Home Office has announced. The department has produced a specification for a new police station-based screening device. Manufacturers will now submit devices to the Home Office for testing and if the specifications are met, a gadget could be approved by the Home Secretary for use by police. Crime prevention minister, James Brokenshire, said: Motorists under the influence of drugs are a danger on the road. We are determined that police have the highest quality devices to help identify them. This specification is a big step towards that goal. Police already have robust powers to test drivers for signs of impairment and this device will make it easier for them to identify the reckless drivers who are putting lives at risk.

Measuring the widest parts of your body doesnt make you feel on top of the world, but with a whole new diet looming it is good to know what needs shaping up. Ive taken the bold move of publicly revealing them, so I am accountable to make it work and drop a dress size: Height: 5ft 6.6ins Chest: 39ins Waist: 34ins Hips: 38ins Thigh: 23.5ins Upper arm: 13ins But still refusing to own a set of scales, I marched down to Boots to have my weight measured electronically . This meant I was fully clothed and had eaten breakfast. I weighed 11 stone 3lb give or take and to be consistent I intend to do the same each week. I recorded my body mass index (BMI) and it read 25.6,

BEFORE I could start Boot Camp I had to tackle weights and measures I can think of better ways of spending a Sunday morning than with a cold tape measure and a set of weighing scales.

which is at the top end of a healthy BMI for my weight and height, but there was room for improvement. My ideal weight for a BMI between 18.5 and 25 is 8st 1lb to 10st 13lb, so I have a few pounds to shake off. With my measurements sent to personal trainer Sue Taylor, I was all geared up for camp. Day one Manic Mondays are always the worst and swapping crunchy nut cornflakes for a yoghurt and fruit combination was a strange start to the day . Preparing an egg salad pack-up, I made the schoolgirl error of boiling an egg to find it was still runny . Thankfully, I had two in the saucepan. And somehow, when I got to work I was fired up with energy . The salad was more filling than Id ever imagined and the usual quick lunch of Dairylea on toast was becoming a distant memory . Despite getting lost on the way to camp that evening, I turned up to find a quick meet and greet, before we were launched into a warm-up. Exercising on a flood-lit pitch in the rain felt like I was having trials for a top football club, but
