SECTION (16344) MEDIUM VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS: A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including Project General and Supplementary Conditions, apply to this Section. B. Requirements of the following Division (16) Electrical Specification Sections apply to this section: 1- Basic Electrical Requirements,M.V.Cables,Earthing, Identification.& Electrical Testing And Commissioning 2- Division (16) Electrical Specification section, BMS interfacing points. 1.02 SUMMARY A. Provide labor, materials, equipment and services, and perform operations required for installation of medium voltage RMU, and related work as indicated on the drawings and specified herein. B. Work Included: The work shall include, but not be limited to, RMU components shall be coordinated and include, but not be limited to, the following: a. Switchgear section and Load break switches. b. Instrumentation. c. Relaying. d. Accessories 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Materials and equipment shall conform to the latest edition of reference specifications specified herein and to applicable codes and requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.

Codes and Standards The required ring main units shall comply with the latest issue of IEC standards . As far as the characteristics of design and construction, ratings and testing procedures are concerned It shall meets the following IEC standards: IEC 298 IEC 256 IEC 129 IEC 694 IEC 420 IEC 56 Factory Testing and Inspection: 1. The manufacturer shall thoroughly test the assembled medium voltage RMU for proper functioning and compliant with standards and specifications. 2. Notify the Engineer that the manufacturer intends to carry out factory tests. The manufacturer shall give the Engineer four weeks written notice . All tests subject to witness by the client or his representative . 3. The manufacturer shall submit full details of the proposed methods of testing including connection diagram and time schedule for routine tests . 4. The manufacturer shall submit certifications to the Engineer that the medium voltage RMU testing has been completed and that it complies with the function specification. 5. Factory tests shall be carried out in accordance with IEC 298 and IEC 56 . The tests shall include but not limited to the following routine tests:a) Power - frequency voltage dry test . b) Voltage tests on auxiliary circuits . c) Mechanical operation tests . d) Verification of operation of all auxiliary devices , relays , etc. . Primary current injection tests shall be used . e) Verification of wiring . f) Measurement of the resistance of the main circuit .

B.

1.04 SUBMITTALS A. Submit the following in accordance with submittal requirements specified in Section Basic Electrical Requirements. 1. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data on medium voltage RMU. Application data to include, but not be limited to, the following: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. Voltage. Phase. Frequency. Horizontal bus capacity. Vertical bus capacity. Short-circuit ratings. Main and branch circuit ratings and types.

Relaying. Metering and instrument transformers. Types of wiring. Encolures. Sections. Shop Drawings: Submit layout drawings including, but not limited to, the following:

a. Outline and arrangement drawings showing overall dimensions of the medium voltage RMU assembly, front views, floor plan, side views, shipping sections, weights of each shipping section, recommended clearances to the front, rear, sides and top, and shipping weights of each draw-out vacuums or SF6 circuit breaker. b. Certified dimensional drawings of the medium voltage RMU showing mounting or anchor bolts required, space available at top and bottom of the RMU for feeder conduit and cable. c. A single line diagram showing main bus, circuit breakers, current and potential transformers, meters, instruments, relays, lightning arrestor, control and selector switches, pilot lights, etc. d. Assembly details of draw-out potential and control power transformers and fuses.

e. Connection and elementary diagrams for medium voltage RMU components. Differentiate between portions of wiring that are manufacturer installed and portions that are field installed. f. Time-current coordination curves and settings starting with the protective device nearest the source and continuing through the system to the protective devices immediately downstream of the main distribution equipment. h. Terminal blocks details for secondary wiring .

3. Maintenance Data: Submit maintenance data and spare parts list for medium voltage RMU including "troubleshooting" maintenance guide. Include that data, product data, and shop drawings in a maintenance manual. 4. Instruction manuals with equipment data having sufficient detail for setting relays, timers, and breakers and time-current curves for relays and fuses. 5. Bill of material. 6. Type tests certificates : Medium voltage RMU and components shall be type tested in accordance with IEC 298 standards. A record and report of the following type tests shall be submitted for the selected manufacturer . a) Rated short circuit making capacity . b) Rated short circuit breaking capacity . c) Rated short - time withstand current . d) Temperature rise test .

e) Impulse withstand voltage test. In addition, type test certificates shall be presented verifying satisfactory completion of the type tests outlined in IEC 298 and IEC 56 . f) Power Frequency dielectric tests. 1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Handle medium voltage RMU equipment carefully to prevent damage, breaking, and scoring. Do not install-damaged sections or components; replace with new. B. Store medium voltage RMU equipment in a clean, dry place. Protect from weather, dirt, fumes, water, construction debris, and physical damage. Assume responsibility and security for materials and equipment. C. Comply with manufacturer's rigging and moving instructions for unloading medium voltage RMU components and transporting them to final location for installation. D. Coordinate and schedule delivery of equipment which permits, ready building ingress for large equipment components to their designated installation spaces. E. Each packing crate and carton shall be visibly marked to identify contents as to types, units and related equipment assemblies. 1.06 COORDINATION AND APPROVAL OF ELECTRIC AUTHORITY

Coordination and seek approval of the concerned electrical authority for the final dimensions, type, ratings, settings,etc. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS: A. Available Manufacturers: subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated in the Work include, but are not limited to the following: As per vendor list Or equally approved B. All components used in manufacturing shall be European origin or equally approved. (C.B, C.Ts, Relays, etc).

2.2 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT Load break switches: The load break switches shall be of modular units containing fixed metal-enclosed SF6 switchgear including switch disconnections . The fused load break switch should be equipped with medium voltage HRF for the transformer cubicle. Its technical characteristics shall meets requirements concerning protection of life and property as well as ease of installation and operation It shall be designed for indoor installation IP-40 and for ability to be installed in small room . The three rotating contacts shall be placed in an enclosure filled with SF6 gas in order to offer maximum operations reliability * The enclosure shall satisfy sealed pressure system requirements. * The switch may be in one of three positions closed, open or earthed representing a natural interlocking system to prevent in correct operation. * The earthing switch placed in the SF6 has a short-circuit making capacity. * The moving contact motion shall be by fast acting mechanism independent from the operator action . The system shall offer : - High electrical endurance. - However- voltage level. - Safety operation. - Long service life. - Active parts are maintenance free. Main electrical c/cs : The ring main units shall work between 5C and + 40C and for a setting up at an altitude below 1000 mt . The breaking shall be done in an SF6 or vacum enclosure to avoid sparc and get max. life time

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Examine conditions at the job site where work of this Section is to be performed to insure proper arrangement and fit of the work. Start of work implies acceptance of job site conditions. 3.02 PREPARATION A. Examine the Contract Drawings and specifications in order to insure the completeness of the work required under this Section and coordinate, seek approved of connected electrical an thirty. B. Verify measurements and dimensions at the job site and cooperate in the coordination and scheduling of the work of this Section with the work of related trades, so as not to delay job progress. C. Provide templates as required to related trade for location of items.

3.03 INSTALLATION A. Install RMU as indicated, in accordance with equipment manufacturer's written instructions, and with recognized industry practices. Bolt the switchgear to a steel channel frame set flush with the finished floor. Design and placement of the frame shall be in accordance with the approved manufacturer's drawings and instructions. B. Provide the services of the manufacturer's qualified service engineer, at the job site, for as many days as required, to provide guidance to the Contractor during installation, to inspect for proper installation, perform debugging, check and make adjustments for proper operation of the devices and equipment, set protective devices, test and calibrate protective devices in the field with secondary current injection and instruct the Owner's designated personnel in the care and operation of the equipment. C. D. Install RMU on vibration isolators in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. Provide fuses in control and instrumentation sections as required.

E. Set, adjust and calibrate relays and protective devices in accordance with the approved coordination study. F. Tighten connectors and terminals, including screws and bolts, in accordance with equipment manufacturer's published torque tightening values for equipment connectors. Where manufacturer's torque requirements are not indicated, tighten connectors and terminals to comply with tightening torque specified in UL Std 486A and B. G. Grounding: Provide equipment grounding connections for the RMU as indicated and as specified in "Grounding." Section Tighten connections to comply with tightening torques specified in UL Std 486A to assure permanent and effective grounds.

3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Prior to energization of switchgears, R.M.U and circuitry, perform tests .If the testing should indicate failure to meet the requirements of the specifications, the manufacturer shall provide additions, modifications or replacements necessary to provide the Owner with a unit which fully conforms to the specifications. Repair work shall be scheduled at a time convenient to the facility being served. B. Protesting: after completing system installation, perform the following preparations for tests: 1. Make insulation-resistance tests for all components. 2. Make a continuity test for windings and remote alarm circuits. 3. Provide a set of Contract Drawings to the testing agency. 4. Provide manufacturers installation and testing instructions to the testing agency. C. Report: submit a written report of observations and tests. Report defective materials and workmanship. 3.05 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Adjust operating mechanisms for free mechanical movement. Touchup scratched or marred surfaces to match original finishes. 3.06 DEMONSTRATION A. Training: arrange and pay for the services of a factoryauthorized service representative to demonstrate all components and accessories and train owners staff. Include a minimum of 8 hours of training in operation and maintenance. Provide both classroom training and hands-on equipment operation covering the following: 1. Safety precautions. 2. Features and construction of components and accessories. 3. Routine inspection, test and maintenance procedures. 4. Routine cleaning. 5. Features, operation, and maintenance of integral disconnect and protective devices. 6. Interpretation of readings of indicating and alarm devices. 7. Protective relay setting considerations. 8. Features, operation and maintenance of separable insulated connector system. B. Schedule training with at least 7 days advance notice.
