PLAN OF WORK FOR WEEK BEGINNING JUNE 3, 2013 ASTEP: SUBJECT: DURATION: UNIT TITLE: CENTRE TWO FUNCTIONAL

LANGUAGE 4 x 75 JAMAICA! JAMAICA!

ATTAINMENT TARGET: Apply a wide range of strategies in the reading process. Read for fluency and enjoyment. Develop understanding and appreciation of literary texts.

SKILLS: Listening, take turns in group interaction, categorising, sorting, analysing information, inferring meaning, recalling information, word awareness. MATERIALS: Chart, pictures, laptop, story First Aid, charts, chair, chalk, poem with ph sounds. DAY ONE TOPIC: VERBS REVISION Students will:

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1. Accurately state what verbs are. 2. List at least five verbs during the lesson. 3. Complete at least eight sentences using given verbs.

ACTIVITIES: Students will observe one student chosen doing various activities. Students will list these actions which will be written on the board. Students will then be asked to state what part of speech these words are. Misconceptions will be corrected if necessary. A chart will then be mounted on the board, providing information verbs. Students will then be placed in five groups. Each group will be given a picture, they will be asked to make a list of verbs viewed in the picture. One student will be selected from each group to write these words on the board. Spelling will be corrected by the class if necessary. Students will list other verbs which will also be written on the board.

ASSESSMENT: Students will complete at least eight given sentences with verbs written on the board.

DAY TWO TOPIC: Comprehension REVISION Students will:

4. At the end of the lesson explain why reading is essential. 5. Use graphic materials to make predictions. 6. List accurately the parts of a letter. 7. Appreciate the need for letters by creating one at the end of the lesson.

ACTIVITIES: Students and teacher will do a picture walk through the story. Students and teacher will read the first few pages of the story. Students will make presentations in groups. The rest of the story will be read. A discussion will follow. Students will list and explain why each part of the a friendly letter. Corrections will be made if necessary.

ASSESSMENT: Students will answer questions from the different levels of comprehension then write a friendly letter.

DAY FOUR TOPIC: Phonics PH Digraph sound REVISION Students will:

8. After listening to a poem accurately enunciate the ph digraph sound. 9. During the lesson list at least three words with the ph digraph sound. 10. Accurately define at least three ph digraph words during the lesson.

ACTIVITIES: Teacher will read the ph digraph poem. Students will enunciate the sound then list all the words with the ph digraph sound. These will be written on the board. Students will spell, enunciate and syllabicate these words. Students and teacher will discuss digraphs and how they are made. Students will list other words with the f sound that is made by the ph digraph. Corrections will be made if necessary. Students and teacher will play swords in hand to locate the meaning of some of the words listed on the board. Students will make oral sentences in groups. These will be recorded on the board for students to read.

ASSESSMENT: High Ability: Students will write a paragraph using the ph digraph words. Low Ability: Use five of the word listed on the board to make sentences.
