(A) SINOPSIS
SYNOPSIS

Workshop/laboratory safety practice, sand casting, investment casting (plaster of paris mould), loss foam
casting, pneumatic, electro - pneumatic and hydraulic control system.

(B) MATLAMAT
GOALS

This course has been designed to give an exposure about foundry process and automation system, and also
the aspects related to safety in the workshop/laboratory.

(C) OBJEKTIF
OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this subject are to enable the students to:

(1) Understand and practice safety in the workshop/laboratory.


(2) Expose to the method of sand casting, investment casting and lost foam casting.
(3) Produce cast metal product.
(4) Recognize defects in the cast metal product.
(5) Understand pneumatic, electro pneumatic and hydraulic control system.
(6) Correctly install the components of pneumatic, electro pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
(7) Perform test runs on the pneumatic, electro pneumatic and hydraulic circuits.

(D) HASIL PEMBELAJARAN


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, the students would be able to apply the knowledge and skill to:

(1) Practice the regulations and safety in engineering workshop/laboratory.


(2) Perform casting process in accordance to the right methods.
(3) Produce a casting product.
(4) Identify the defects on the produced casting product.
(5) Understand about pneumatic, electro-pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
(6) Correctly install components in pneumatic, electro pneumatic and hydraulic control systems according
to the given circuits diagram.
(7) Successfully test runs the pneumatics, electro pneumatic and hydraulic circuits.

SYLLABUS AND LESSON PLAN

1. Foundry

Week Topics
1.0 Sand Casting: Safety practice, types of pattern, draft shrink rules, sand
preparation, core making, introduction of mold making equipments and tools,
mold making, pouring molten metal, casting defects.
2.0 Investment Casting (Plaster of Paris Mould): Safety practice, procedure on

the mixture of water-plaster mix ratio, introduction of equipments and tools,
mold making, pouring wax, mold defects.
3.0 Loss Foam Casting: Safety practice, introduction of equipments and tools,
pouring molten metal, casting defects. Foundry skill test.

2. Pneumatic

Week Topics
1.0 Safety practice, introduction of pneumatics, advantages and disadvantages,
power supply, components, standard, symbol and circuits.
5-7 2.0 AND and OR control circuits.
3.0 Time delay valve and applications.
4.0 Sequence actuators. Pneumatic skill test.

3. Electro-Pneumatic

Week Topics
1.0 Safety practice, introduction of electro-pneumatic, electrical circuits and
electronic component, advantage of using electro-pneumatic control system.
2.0 Relay, application as a memory circuits, MIMO system for electro-

4.0 Introduction and application of Counter, Electro-pneumatic skill test.

4. Hydraulic

(H) KEHADIRAN / PERATURAN SEMASA KULIAH


ATTENDANCE AND RULES DURING LECTURE

(1) Pelajar mesti hadir tidak kurang dari 80% masa pertemuan yang ditentukan bagi sesuatu mata
pelajaran termasuk mata pelajaran Hadir Wajib (HW) dan mata pelajaran Hadir Sahaja (HS).
Students must attend lectures not less than 80% of the contact hours for every subject including
Compulsory Attendance Subjects (Hadir Wajib – HW) and Attendance Only Subjects (Hadir Sahaja –
HS).

(2) Pelajar yang tidak memenuhi perkara (1) di atas tidak dibenarkan menghadiri kuliah dan menduduki
sebarang bentuk penilaian selanjutnya. Markah sifar (0) akan diberikan kepada pelajar yang gagal
memenuhi perkara (1). Manakala untuk mata pelajaran Hadir Wajib (HW), pelajar yang gagal
memenuhi perkara (1) akan diberi Hadir Gagal (HG).
Students who do not fulfill (1) will not be allowed to attend further lectures and sit for any further
examination. Zero mark (0) will be given to students who fail to comply with (1). While for
Compulsory Attendance Subjects (Hadir Wajib – HW), those who fail to comply with (1) will be
given Failure Attendance (Hadir Gagal – HG).

(3) Pelajar perlu mengikut dan patuh kepada peraturan berpakaian yang berkuatkuasa dan menjaga
disiplin diri masing-masing untuk mengelakkan dari tindakan tatatertib diambil terhadap pelajar.
Students must obey all rules and regulations of the university and must discipline themselves in order
to avoid any disciplinary actions against them.

(4) Pelajar perlu mematuhi peraturan keselamatan semasa pengajaran dan pembelajaran.
Student must obey safety regulations during learning and teaching process.
