Definitions of Cylinde,Pressure vessel & Boiler

Gas cylinder The Gas cylinders Rules,2004 (Rule 2) Any closed metal container having a volume exceeding 500ml but not exceeding 1000 litres intended for the storage and transport of compressed gas,including any Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) container/Compressed Natural Gas(CNG) cylinder fitted to motor vehicle as its fuel tank but not including any other such container fittted to a special transport or under-carriage and includes a composite cylinder,however,the water capacity of cylinders used for storage of CNG,nitrogen,compressed air,etc.may exceed 1000 litres up to 2500 litres proviided the dia meter of such cylinder does not exceed 60 cm.

Pressure Vessel The Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels(Unfired) Rules,1981(Rule 2) Any closed metal container of whatever shape,intended for the storage and transport of any compressed gs which is subjected to internal pressure and whose water capacity exceeds1000(One thousand) litres and includes inter connecting parts and components thereof upto the first point of connection to the connected piping and fittings but does not include containers where in stream or other vapour is or is intended to be generated, or water or other liquid is or is intended to be heated by the application of fire or the products of combustion or by electrical means,heat exchangers,evaporators,air receivers,steam-type digesters,steam-type sterilizers,autoclave,reactors calorifiers,pressure piping components such as separators or strainers and vessels containing a liquid under a blanket of compressed inert gas.

Pressure plant Rule no.65(a) & (b) of The MFR, 1963 Pressure vessel along with its pipings and other fittings operated at a presssure greater than the atmospheric pressure.

Boiler Section 2(b) of The Indian Boiler Act, 1923 Any closed vessel exceeding 22.75 liters(five gallons) in capacity which is expressly used for generationg steam under pressure and includes any mounting or other fitting attached to such vessel,which is wholly or partly under presssure,when steam is shutt of.

Pressure vessel means any vessel subjecte to or operated at a presssure greater than the atmospheric pressure.

Regulation 619 of Indian Boiler Regulations, 1950 Miniature Boiler A boiler which does not exceed the following limits. A.Inside diameter of shell 408mm (16 inch), B.Over-all length of outside to outside of heads at centre 1071 mm(42 inch). C.Heating surface 1.85 sq.metre (20 sq.ft) & D.Maximum allowable working pressure 2.11 Kg.sq.cm(30 Lb.sq.in)
