Learning to Read
Sight Words and Reading: Your child will do a significant amount of reading in their first grade year. You can help them to make significant progress by practicing their sight words with them as often as you can, and by having them read their decodable books to you repeatedly. The sight words need to be recognized instantly. Children should not try to sound out sight words.

Homework:

Homework Beginning in October

Monday-Friday simple worksheets in a packet which reinforce the lessons of the week, or finish work students did not complete in class. Packets are due on Friday. Please encourage your child to do some of the packet each night. They should not try to get it all done in one night.

Illness
Illness: If your child is ill, please keep them home where they will get better much more quickly. When they return to school, please send a note to the school nurse, explaining their absence. When no note is sent, your childs absence is marked unexcused.

Birthdays
Birthday treats: If you would like your child to celebrate their birthday in school with their classmates, please send a note at least one day ahead of time so I can plan time in our day for the celebration.
