2012) Bentley- Analysis and Design of Fixed and Floating Offshore Structures eSeminar Attendee Questions
This eSeminar was originally presented on Nov. 27th, 2012. You can view the recording online at our BeConnected site ( Click Here!). The following are the product-related questions and corresponding answers from the eSeminar. 1. Q: Why is the bottom bracing pattern is different than others? A: You may have a mudmat at the bottom of the jacket in which would be around the four corners. An X brace would not work for that. 2. Q: Does the program calculate the self-weight of the structure? A: Yes, it will calculate the self-weight of the structure. You can view the self-weigh in precede. 3. Q: Is that a new precede version? A: Yes, it will be SACS version 5.5 which will be available very soon.that. 4. Q: How can we do actually a Push-over Analysis in SACS? A: The SACS Collapse module is capable of doing this. 5. Q: Is Push-over analysis is compulsory required for this very rigid/stiff offshore jacket structure? A: It depends. If it is an existing structure then the assessment initiators may force a pushover analysis. In any case, the structure may be stiff but the foundation may be weak. 6. Q: How we can decide the size of the jacket leg? A: You can look at a similar design in the area. 7. Q: We can see different types of bracing connections, is there any particular method to select type of bracing connections? A: Different bracing is possible; it depends upon the amount of redundancy required for the structure. 8. Q: Which method of analysis is needed for FPSO, Barge structures? A: SACS does not design the actual hull of the vessel, only TOPSIDE design for FPSOs and Transportation analysis using barges. 9. Q: Does the analysis consider P-Delta effects (global and local)? A: P-Delta effects can be included in both static and dynamic analysis.

10. Q: Can SACS check fatigue strength for w-shapes and their connections? A: Yes, provided users supply their own SCFs. 11. Q: Can you view the wave loads applied to the structures? A: Yes, it is possible to do this. The SEASTATE module will generate an OCI file which will contain both the structure and the generated wave loads on the structure. This file can be opened in Precede to view the loading. 12. Q: With SACS version 5.5, what export options are available? A: Precede will export to PDMS and SDNF formats. But the link to ISM allows the user to link to other Bentley products in addition to products such as TEKLA, Revit, and AutoCAD. 13. Q: Does SACS perform mooring analysis? A: Currently Mooring analysis is not possible. 14. Q: Are the elements used to model the deck plate meshed at runtime? The concern here is the transfer of area loads applied to the plate element to the supporting members. A: Deck plate elements are not automatically meshed at run time. Users have to refine the model before a run. 15. Q: How much is SACS basic module? A: Please contact our support center for this information.http://selectservices.bentley.com/en-US/ 16. Q: Is there a trial version available and online training? A: SACS does not have a trial version. There are online resources available for self-training: http://connected.bentley.com/BrowseLive.aspx?BrowseType=0/ and http://learn.bentley.com/app/Public/ViewLearningPathWithMasterCourseExpanded? lpId=100334&mcId=100429/ 17. Q: Does SACS perform passing vessel analysis? A: Currently multi-body analysis is not possible. 18. Q: Will Rhino upload be available for other stuctures besides hull forms? A: Currently, Rhino compatibility is only possible with the Hull module. 19. Q: Can you input load histogram for fatigue? A: If you mean scatter diagrams, then yes, this is possible with the Fatigue module. 20. Q: Are there any validation of dynamic analysis is available on Bentleys website? A: There are no validation examples. However, the software comes with Demos and Sample cases. 21. Q: How does SACS handle torsion? I read in the manuals that SACS calculates torsion and adds it to the shear stress. In the post processing output files, when we see "Shear Stress, does that include the torsion values? I know in STAAD, using Canadian code, torsion is not

checked. How can I verify torsion is checked? A: The bending stress from Torsion in included in the weak axis bending component for the flange sections. 22. Q: Does SACS perform pile driving analysis? A: SACS does not have Pile drivability analysis. 23. Q: Is there a training center where I can learn more about fixed and floating offshore platforms for those interested to venture in this field of profession? A: You may want to enquire which colleges offer such courses. 24. Q: Do you just model the members using frame model? Can truss model be used for some members? A: Member end releases can be used to model truss frames. 25. Q: Does SACS integrates with AutoPIPE's model? A: Currently there is no link to AutoPIPE. However this is something Bentley is very interested in doing. 26. Q: Is the P-Delta calcs based on revising the stiffeness matrix or trial-and-error? A: The stiffness matrix is modified for the P-Delta analysis. 27. Q: How does the program address joint design (punching, stub ends, etc.)? A: The SACS Joint Can module has many different code check criteria for Joint Design. e.g. API, ISO, NORSOK, etc.. 28. Q: Does it check the combination of column stresses and brace imposed stresses at the joints? A: The joint design module (JOINT CAN) takes this into account. 29. Q: By the use of the Translator or converter "STAAD.Pro to SACS", is possible to translate STAAD geometry, beam and plate properties to its equivalent SACS representation. Is it possible the inverse (SACS to STAAD.Pro)? A: A two way transfer of information between SACS and STAAD is possible via ISM. 30. Q: Can SACS simulate an Impact analysis? A: Yes, both statically and dynamically and also account for nonlinear geometric and material behavior. 31. Q: What happened to the 3D PDF feature available in some older versions? A: It is still available but through ISM. 32. Q: Is SACS compatable with STAAD.Pro? A: Yes, via ISM. 33. Q: How accurate is the conversion between STAAD to SACS? Is there much in the way of extra handling required?

A: Loads are not transferred. Also, STAAD has a large library of sections used in the civil market and not in the offshore industry. These cannot be translated. 34. Q: Can users modify input file using text editor? A: SACS has its own intelligent text editor Datagen which can recognize the content of the input file. Otherwise any text editor will work provided it doesnt leave control characters in the input. 35. Q: Can SACS generate plate meshes automatically? A: Yes, this is possible. Obviously for a complex geometry a FE mesh generator such as FEMGV can be used. SACS can import meshed surfaces from FEMGV. 36. Q: Can we create row lines (A,B,C or 1,2,3) manually? A: Currently, this is only possible via the Structure Definition Wizard. 37. Q: Is fatigue analysis done in frequency domain? A: Both frequency and time domain analysis are possible. 38. Q: How about validation for EQKLOD line? A: We do not have any validation examples available at this moment. However we will gladly look into the problem if you there is a discrepancy with the method. 39. Q: Can SACS do model generation for jackets only? A: Currently, the structure wizard only handles jacket types of structure. However, there are features under the joint meshing which can probably handle other configurations such as decks, spherical, and cylindrical structures. 40. Q: How do you decide the appropriate number of modes for the dynamic analysis? A: The results from a modal analysis will include a report on mass cumulative factors. Enough number of modes should be used so the cumulative mass is over 95% in case its needed by any response analysis. Depending on the model, this is not always possible, but its a good indicator of how many number of modes should be used. 41. Q: Can your sea state be defined by Jonswap or Ochi-Hubble Spectrum? A: Yes, including a user defined spectrum. 42. Q: After analysis and design, how easy is it to transfer to detail drawings for fabrication and construction? A: The ISM interface provides links to numerous CAD packages. 43. Q: Can you explain the integration of the GH Bladed software for offshore wind turbine structures? A: The GH Bladed software outputs a special file for SACS which can be used to automate the fatigue and strength analysis. The analysis process is speeded up using the multi-core functionality of the PC.

44. Q: Will SACS offer in the future unbraced lengths for top flange or bottom flange for W Members? A: The unbraced length can be entered on the GRUP line. 45. Q: How does the program address vessel bending for FPSOs? A: The new SACS Stability module allows for a longitudinal hull strength analysis which takes into account both the hogging and sagging of the hull structure. 46. Q: Has EDI systems (originator of SACS) been acquired by Bentley? A: The SACS software was acquired by Bentley Systems in March 2012. 47. Q: Are there specific checks within SACS to avoid the onset of VIV of a tubular member (wind induced)? A: Currently, there is no check for vortex induced vibration. 48. Q: Does SACS adopt section wizard? A: The section wizard functionality is not currently available in SACS. However, Bentley intends to add this in the future. 49. Q: How accurate are plate & shell fatigue checks? Can we get hot spot stress at points of interest? A: The plate and fatigue checks are dependent upon the mesh density in the crucial areas of stress concentrations. Obviously a finer mesh in these areas will yield a better representation of the hot spot stress. 50. Q: Can SACS perform non-linear time history analysis? A: The equivalent static incremental loads from a time history analysis can be passed through the SACS Collapse module to check for an Elasto-plastic response. 51. Q: How do we learn more about this years Be Inspired Award winner and finalists in the Offshore Engineering category? A: Bentley is proud to have received a number of great use cases for this new category. The Offshore finalists and winner were outstanding uses of Bentley products for their offshore projects. Consider entering your innovative project in next years competition, which will be announced in Spring 2013! 52. Q: How do we get the continuing education credits? How can I get a certificate of attendance of CEU's? A: Bentley Learning Units (BLU), Bentley Institutes equivalent to Professional Development Hours (PDH), are granted for the live and recorded eSeminar. Within 2-4 weeks of watching the presentation, Learning Units are added to your transcript. To access your transcript, go to www.bentley.com/mylearninghistory. (01.29.2013) Bentley - Structural eSeminar: Foundation Design Attendee Questions

This eSeminar was originally presented on Jan. 29th, 2013. You can view the recording online (Click Here!). The following are the product-related questions and corresponding answers from the eSeminar. 1. Q: So, there's no interoperability interface with CSi products? A: There is no direct import/export between STAAD Foundation Advanced and CSi products. However, foundation specific data such as support reactions can be copied to a pre-formatted MS Excel file (supplied with STAAD Foundation Advanced installation) and the program can then import that excel file and design all foundations. 2. Q: Does Bentley still own RISA? A: RISA is not owned by Bentley Systems Inc. 3. Q: When loads are brought in from STAAD.Pro, they all come in as Dead Load. Will a patch be issued to fix this? A: Work is already in progress to bring load types from STAAD.Pro. As soon as the feature tested, a patch installation will be issued. 4. Q: Do you comply with International Association of ports and harbors code? A: At the moment there is no direct link with IAPH guidelines. 5. Q: Can you use STAAD Foundation for Design for Dynamic loads Example Machine Foundations? A: Work is in progress on machine foundation. This module will be available by this year. 6. Q: ACI 318-05 is obsolete, yes? A: It depends on project requirements. Possibly for any new project ACI 318-11 should be used. Program supports three versions of ACI 318 code. User can choose any of those versions depending on the project requirements. 7. Q: Can you use STAAD Foundation for Design for Dynamic loads Example Machine Foundations?

A: Work is in progress on machine foundation. This module will be available by this year. 8. Q: Is there an interface with other design programs, like SAP2000? or Safe? A: There is no direct import/export between STAAD Foundation Advanced and SAP2000 or SAFE. However, foundation specific data such as support reactions can be copied to a preformatted MS Excel file (supplied with STAAD Foundation Advanced installation) and the program can then import that excel file and design all foundations. 9. Q: Can STAAD Foundation design un-reinforced slabs for rack point loads? A: At the moment STAAD Foundation Advanced does not design unreinforced slabs. 10. Q: Would there be an update for ACI 318-10 in the near future? A: Program already supports ACI 318-11 code. The latest version of the program is version 6.2. 11. Q: How do take care of geotechnical parameters in the Design of foundations? A: It depends on foundation type. For shallow foundations program uses bearing capacity, modulus of subgrade reaction, soil density, cohesion, water table depth etc. For deep foundation many other parameters are required like angle of internal friction, shear modulus etc. 12. Q: What is the allowable soil pressure the program use, gross or net? A: Program has the option to use either Gross or Net Bearing Capacity. 13. Q: All design criteria are evaluated simultaneously? Punching Shear? Capacity? Cracking? A: Yes, all design steps are checked for all load cases/combinations. Allowable load combinations are used for soil bearing and safety checks. Ultimate or factored load combinations are used for concrete design such as shear, moment etc. 14. Q: Does the program handle monolithic wall footings (eccentric wall footing poured monolithically w/ground floor slab)? A: Yes, it is possible with our mat foundation module. Ground slab can be modeled as the overall mat boundary and then eccentric wall footing can be modeled as a control region. 15. Q: Can I purchase this software and run it independently of Staad.pro? What is the cost? A: Yes, STAAD Foundation Advanced is an independent program. It does not depend on STAAD.Pro. However, it has seamless integration with STAAD.Pro. For price, Bentley sales will contact you. 16. Q: Can laterally loaded piers be designed in an integrated way with STAAD.Pro? A: At the moment drilled pier lateral analysis is not integrated with STAAD.Pro. 17. Q: Do you model foundations in staad steel superstructure files with plate elements, or do you simply not model the foundations at all and export the file to Staad.pro foundation for the software to automatically size and optimize? A: Both options are available. Foundations dont need to be modeled as plates in STAAD.Pro. After superstructure analysis, support positions and reactions can be exported

to STAAD Foundation to design foundations. Some engineers may want to model mat foundation along with the superstructure and in that scenario STAAD Foundation can import those plate elements and design the mat slab. 18. Q: Any plans to incorporate AASHTO design code? A: It is not planned yet but it is already in our backlog. 19. Q: Does one need to have an extra run while in STAAD.Pro using ACI Load Factors for "dumping into STAAD Foundation Advanced? A: No, there is no need for an extra analysis run. Any analyzed STAAD.Pro file can be exported to STAAD Foundation Advanced for foundation design. 20. Q: I am working for a small consulting company and we don't have budget to allow me to get training from Bentley. I have tried to learn and use Staad foundation by myself. I failed to get reasonable results. I was wondering if Bentley could provide more verified examples. When I encounter a problem, I can refer to the verified examples and see if I operate correctly or not. A: We have just published a set of new video tutorials on YouTube. We hope those tutorials will give you valuable insight and will help you to use the program effectively. Also, please look at the Be Community blog for more useful information. 21. Q: Can I go from RAM to ISM to Foundation? A: Yes, its possible. 22. Q: Can the software analyze foundations for machines such as presses with dynamic loading? A: Work is in progress on machine foundation. This module will be available by this year. 23. Q: Does it design the anchorage of the columns to the foundations too? A: No, ductile dowel detailing is not part of the program yet. 24. Q: Can you show how soil properties are entered? A: Please click here to know the basic workflow of the program and watch video tutorials. 25. Q: What different soil distribution does Staad Foundation assume in its analysis (including biaxial analysis)? For example, does it assume linear elastic soil distribution (for service limit states)?; Does it assume plastic soil distribution (for ultimate limit state)? A: The program can handle soil distribution of biaxial moments including uplift where a portion of the slab may lose contact with the soil. Soil pressure distribution is calculated for both service and ultimate load cases. 26. Q: What release number is this presentation based on? A: The presentation was based on STAAD Foundation Advanced v8i SELECTSeries 2 (version 6.2). 27. Q: So the software cannot consider layered soil? A: For deep foundation software can handle layered soil.

28. Q: Could foundations under dynamic loads be handled by STAAD Foundation Advanced? A: Work is in progress on machine foundation. This module will be available by this year. 29. Q: Can you use anchor bolt forces to the foundation structures? A: Anchor bolt forces are not part of the design yet. 30. Q: The soil model specified in the software would be applied to all foundations (say column) or soil model can be specified for each location or a region? A: Soil parameters can be specified differently for each foundation (support position) or region. 31. Q: What is the difference between this software and Ram Concept? A: RAM Concept can be used for Mat foundation design. But it cannot design other foundation types such as spread footing, combined footing, pile cap, plant foundations. 32. Q: When will the software be updated to ACI 318-08 or ACI 318-11? A: Software has been recently upgraded and includes there revisions (2005, 2008, 2011) of ACI code. User can select any of these revisions depending on the project requirements. 33. Q: Which version of ASCE 7 is used in calculation wind loads in vessel foundation design? A: Currently,it supports ASCE 7-07 code. 34. Q: Can we do a Pile Design using the SF Advanced? A: Yes, we can. 35. Q: When I use the user defined option in the load combination input, can we save those load combinations to use them on another tank foundation? A: Yes, user defined load combinations can be saved and used again for same foundation type. 36. Q: Is STAAD Foundation Advanced better than LPile in terms of pile design? A: STAAD Foundation Advanced and LPile results are comparable. Please contact our Technical Support team for a detailed comparison. 37. Q: What's the difference between Lpile Py curve and the STAAD foundation one? A: Both have similar p-y curves. 38. Q: Can STAAD Foundation have the option of including passive soil pressure on a foundation? A: Work is in progress on passive pressure and will be available by this year. 39. Q: What is the price for this software for existing STAAD-Pro license users? A: Someone from sales will contact you for the price. 40. Q: What is the price for this software for existing STAAD-Pro license users? A: Someone from sales will contact you for the price.

41. Q: Is the calc sheet available when my design fails? That way I can see which check fails. A: For certain modules calculation sheet available when design fails but the best way is to use Detailed Report which shows critical design ratios for all design steps for each load case. 42. Q: Could you please update the version of the ACI 318 from 2005 to 2008 or even 2011? Even though there are minor changes in foundation section; our client (GOV) requests us to perform the design IAW the current code. When we print the calculation report, ACI 318-05 is showing up and it takes us unnecessary time to convince our client that the design is up to the current codes. We appreciate your input on this matter. A: The program is already updated and now supports 2005/2008/2011 revisions. 43. Q: Could you please update the version of the ACI 318 from 2005 to 2008or even 2011? Even though there are minor changes in foundation section; our client (GOV) requests us to perform the design IAW the current code. When we print the calculation report, ACI 318-05 is showing up and it takes us unnecessary time to convince our client that the design is up to the current codes. We appreciate your input on this matter. A: The program is already updated and now supports 2005/2008/2011 revisions. 44. Q: Can you perform dynamic analysis of a pier for horizontal vessels (vibrating machines)? A: Work is in progress on machine foundation. This module will be available by this year. 45. Q: What kind of soil parameters do you need for designing precast piles or drilled piers? A: For drilled pier the program needs basic soil properties like cohesion and angle of internal friction, rest of the properties like J, Epsilon50 etc. can be calculated by the program. Also if little information is available with structural engineer, STAAD Foundation Advanced gives you an option to use program calculated values. 46. Q: Will you have the tutorial available on web which we can download whenever we need? A: New tutorials are on YouTube and can be viewed anytime anywhere. Click on this link to view the tutorials. 47. Q: How does the program calculate punching shear? I have a mat foundation...assumed comp strength 4000psi...the program calculated the punching stress as 0.298ksi...but per ACI 318, it cant be greater than 4*0.75*sqrt(Fc')/1000 = 0.19ksi. A: Please contact our Technical Support team for the detailed clarification. 48. Q: Can a single rigid footing be designed for more than two columns? If so, is it required that the columns be aligned on a single grid line or could the columns be arranged in a square or rectangular grid pattern? If so, how? A: We have strip footing and Mat foundation which are footings on multiple columns. For Strip footing the columns has to be linear either in global-X or global-z direction. But for Mat foundation, no restriction apply, columns can be of any arrangement in any direction. 49. Q: For a mat foundation supported on piles, could the piles be of any layout? A: Yes, piles can be of any layout.

50. Q: Are pile foundations supported for horizontal vessels? A: No, our horizontal vessel module does not support piles yet. But for the time being, mat on piles can be used. 51. Q: Does this software integrate with Bentley Substation? A: No, not yet. But we are currently working on a project to integrate Bentley Substation to STAAD Foundation Advanced. 52. Q: Can the software handle concrete footings with sloped portions? A: Yes, its possible to design sloped footing. We have sloped isolated footing for Indian & Chinese code. Mat foundation can have regions with varying thickness which can be used to simulate sloped foundation. 53. Q: Can the software design pump foundations? A: Work is in progress on machine foundation. This module will be available by this year. 54. Q: Does the program check anchor bolts per ACI 318 APP D? A: No, we are still working on that feature and will be available in near future. 55. Q: In designing a mat foundation, how do you analyze for uplift @ corners due to lateral loads @ tops of piers? A: Lateral loads at top of the piers are converted to moment and applied at the base of the footing. Soil is modeled as Wrinkler springs. Finite Element Analysis is used to distribute the soil pressure on slab. 56. Q: Why sliding is not considered in design of combined footings? A: Sliding check for combined footing is already implemented. A patch version will be released soon with that feature. 57. Q: What is the difference between STAAD Foundation and STAAD Foundation Advanced? A: A free version of STAAD Foundation is included with STAAD Pro and it can design isolated, combined and Pile Caps only. Q: Does STAAD foundation consider detailing requirements for high seismic ACI Chapt. 21? A: No, it does not consider detailing requirements for high seismic activity. 88. Q: Isolated footings for prefabricated columns are implemented? A: As long as we know support reactions, isolated footings of pre-fabricated columns can be designed. 89. Q: Are there plans to add in the anchor bolts in the finite element model? A: Yes, it might become available by the end of this year. 90. Q: Does STAAD Foundation Advanced include all features of STAAD Foundation? A: Yes, STAAD Foundation Advanced includes all features of STAAD Foundation. 91. Q: We used the program to design eccentric footing and were very helpful. A: Thank you. 92. Q: If user does not want to pick all load combinations for design, he/she will have to pick them one by one using the mouse. Is there any other way? A: Yes, normal windows controls like holding Shift or Ctrl button can be used. 93. Q: When doing a multiple footing design, eg 30 columns, how do you ensure you don't get 30 different footings? How can you limit to eg 5 size categories? A: Yes, after first design, user can select footings and group those. 94. Q: Anchor bolts were shown on one of your examples. Does STAAD foundation design anchor bolts? A: No, the program does not design anchor bolt yet but that might become available by the end of this year. 95. Q: Can you design foundations with ultimate strength parameters? A: Yes, definitely. 96. Q: For a mat foundation on piles, where do you take the critical section for 1-way shear? A: Mat foundation does not check one way shear by default but user can cut a section and get shear force diagram for one way shear check. 97. Q: That is the tank, anchor bolts, concrete slab and soil all in same finite element model? A: Its possible to model everything together. But tank foundation can be designed separately as well. 98. Q: Are you able to do pile group design with this program? A: Mat foundation can have any pile layout for analysis but does not design.

99. Q: If grade beams are installed between foundations, will STAAD distribute the shear forces to reduce moment in pedestals? A: Yes, grade beams can be modeled in strap footing and mat foundation to distribute forces. 100. Q: Currently, I have staad foundation 5.3. Can I just update it to advanced without additional fee? A: Yes, STAAD Foundation 5.3 can be upgraded to STAAD Foundation Advanced without any additional fee. 101. Q: How do you design foundations with moving wheel loads from 300 or MORE T Cranes? A: No, the program does not support moving load yet. 102. Q: Considering many foundation configurations fall into the "deep" beam category can STAAD foundation design deep beams or will this be address in the future? A: This is not there yet but can be addressed in future. 103. Q: Can STAAD Foundation design for Ultimate Soil Bearing Pressure (as well as Allowable Soil Pressure)? A: Are you referring to Gross and Net soil bearing capacity? Yes, it does design for both gross and net bearing capacity. Or if you want to use both allowable and ultimate to check for soil bearing, that is also possible. For ultimate load cases you can increase bearing capacity by soil bearing capacity factor. 104. Q: Does Bentley offer off-site (client's facility) training on this software? A: Yes, definitely. Our training department will contact you for details. 105. Q: Do you carry foundation design in Canadian Code?

A: Yes, we do support Canadian code. 111. Q: How do you design dowels at expansion joint on Mat foundations? A: At the moment program does not design dowels for Mat foundation. 112. Q: I am analyzing and designing foundation for a 500 ft concrete chimney half on rock and half on Micropile. Can I use the program for that diameter is 70ft? A: No, the program does not support MicroPile. 113. Q: How do you handle settlement? A: Settlement report is provided in Mat foundation analysis. For rigid foundations, settlement report is not available. 114. Q: Can we have email ID for any direct question, as I am current STAAD Foundation user? A: Please contact technical support team. 115. Q: Is it possible to design other types of shapes of foundations composed of footing and piles? A: Yes, using mat foundation module you can design different shapes of foundations on piles. 116. Q: Can settlement be accounted for in the software and carried back into the superstructure model? A: Normally for small spread footing or combined footing settlement might not play a huge role for secondary member stresses. So, practically these are treated as two separate processes but it is always nice to consider settlement effects and do non-linear analysis. But for large foundations like Mat if you want to consider foundation settlement, the best way is to model the mat under your super structure as plates. After a p-delta analysis, you can import that mat slab (not the individual spring supports) into the Foundation program by means of Import Plates option and then design the mat slab in the foundation program. 117. Q: Footings with large overturning moments and small axial loads require a pressure diagram with a portion under tension for an effective design. Can STAAD deal with that or equations do not converge? A: Yes, STAAD Foundation can handle this kind of situations very effectively. 118. Q: On vessel many have varying diameter over height and also different weights. Will STAAD calculate the wind loads and seismic forces based on these requirements? Is there an input screen to add diameters and different weights at various heights? A: Yes for vertical vessel mass can be distributed at different heights for seismic load generation. Time Period page in vertical vessel foundation wizard can be used to input distributed mass. 119. Q: Can STAAD utilized for l-pile analysis and design? A: Not sure about the question. L-Pile type of analysis can be done using lateral loaded

drilled pier analysis module of the program, but there is no direct import link, you have to manually feed the data in STAAD Foundation Advanced. 120. Q: Do you have any software that can design Baseplates? A: RAM Connection can be used for base plate design. 121. Q: Does the software have typical values for modulus of sub-grade reaction to choose from? A: Yes, program has default value for modulus of subgrade reaction. 122. Q: Is there a tutorial available for importing from an ISM file? A: We can create one tutorial for STAAD Foundation and ISM interoperability. Please keep an eye on this page for more details. 123. Q: Is it compatible with SACS? A: Yes, using ISM these two programs can be connected. 124. Q: Does STAAD foundation give the pile head stiffness for super structure analysis? A: At the moment we are working on this feature and should be available soon. 125. Q: Can we introduce non-elastic behavior of soil in STAAD Foundation? A: We need more details to answer this question, please contact us. 126. Q: What about foundations on rock strata and related details? A: Program does not have anything specific to rock strata. 127. Q: In the tank foundation design parameters, there is an option to increase the soil bearing capacity for earthquake load cases. But when I run the design the soil bearing capacity remains unchanged for the load cases that include seismic loads. Am I missing a step? A: Please send us your input file and we will be glad to help you. 128. Q: Different languages (for in- and output)? A: We have Chinese language version available. 129. Q: Foundations on elastic soil as part of the structural model, will it affect the steel design of super structure? A: Normally for small spread footing or combined footing settlement might not play a huge role for secondary member stresses. So, practically these are treated as two separate processes but it is always nice to consider settlement effects and do non-linear analysis. But for large foundations like Mat if you want to consider foundation settlement, the best way is to model the mat under your super structure as plates. After a p-delta analysis, you can import that mat slab (not the individual spring supports) into the Foundation program by means of Import Plates option and then design the mat slab in the foundation program. 130. Q: Can one specify soil bearing capacity with mat foundation instead of subgrade coefficient? A: We are working on this feature at the moment and should be available soon.
