more than an

Business is becoming more and more global each and every day, transcending cultures and generations and crossing borders that used to stand between technologies, markets, and jobs. This change in the global business environment has resulted in both challenges and opportunities: challenges in terms of managing business, opportunities in terms of creating growth and value, particularly in the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America, and Africa. But global opportunities also raise global risks and complex issues, and ready-made solutions no longer work. Companies are looking for a new breed of entrepreneurial managers, with a willingness to take risks and continuously reinvent new ways of doing profitable, responsible, sustainable business. How do we rise to such a challenge? The Global MBA sets itself apart from other MBA programs through its unique combination of knowledge-centered courses and seminars with experiential learning, to continuously challenge, test, and develop participants critical thinking ability and creativity. The Global MBA is designed to strengthen the ties between business and policy, theory and practice. It is designed to offer companies a means to educate their high-potential managers, as well as invite a diverse mix of individual participants who will develop an elite professional network. Personal attention, via mentoring, career development, and a range of elective offerings will enable participants to identify and build their strengths. In short, it is much more than an MBA. It is a tool for change.

Because we aim to train the responsible decision-makers of tomorrow, we designed the Global MBA program to reveal the potential of young managers. It seeks to develop not only knowledge but know-how and a heightened consciousness of their role as business leaders in our society.

Singapore
Commercial Crossroads of the East and West

Rich and Vibrant

Singapore is a dynamic and vibrant Asian city that continues to attract multinational corporations and educational institutions. It is fascinating and full of opportunity as a business hub, and its location makes for an ideal starting point from which to explore the rich culture and geography of Southeast Asia: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam It is an ideal locale to study cross-cultural communication and management techniques for a modern, interconnected, and globalized society.

Strategically Located
The beginning of the century saw a conscious decision on the part of ESSEC to solidify its international presence through the establishment of a campus in Asia. Asia was an obvious choice to two distinct reasons. First, students would have the benefit of an enriched educational experience in one of the global economys most dynamic regions, and ESSEC too would benefit from an opportunity to heighten its educational competencies and authority in relation to Asia and business on the continent. In 2003, Singapore was selected as the best location for the new campus. The economic vibrancy of the city-state and its unique role as the geographical, commercial, financial, and cultural crossroads between East and West make it the ideal location for ESSEC.

The city-country Singapore impresses me with its ubiquitous cleanliness and impressive efficiency. My Singapore experience has endowed me with a more lively knowledge of Asian countries. Singapore is a mini-Asia: beautiful, hospitable, energetic, and full of potential opportunities. One of our courses, Geopolitics in Asia, has facilitated my understanding of Asian countries. Yong Wang, China, Global MBA student 2011 -2012

International Immersion Project

A Business Problem with a Social Impact: The International Immersion Project (IIP) is designed to give students hands-on experience working on a real-life business problem with a social connotation in an emerging market. It is centered on a three to four week-long, mentor-led immersion, during which a team of participants works on a management issue defined in collaboration with a sponsoring company. This project culminates in a final report and presentation, completed during the capstone seminar.

"Since 2009, PlaNet Finance has organized the University Meets Microfinance program to encourage cooperation between European universities and microfinance professionals. The contribution of the students from the Global MBA at ESSEC Business School toward the creation of case studies on two of our projects, in Egypt and Uruguay, is invaluable, as it aids us in advancing reflection, professionalization and innovation in the battle against poverty." M. Jacques Attali, President of PlaNet Finance

The IIP provides students with: A deep understanding of the regions business, cultural and political climate, as well as local practices. The opportunity to explore the value of different economic models as a benchmark for global business practices. Heightened intercultural awareness and communication skills. The ability to work effectively and efficiently in diverse teams. Experience in making responsible, ethical decisions. The 2012 International Immersion Projects represent a range of industries and have taken our students to emerging markets all around the world. PlaNet Finance has enlisted a team of Global MBA students for a case study on the implementation of a microfinance credit bureau in Cairo, and another in Uruguay. The Cairo project is part of the action plan of the National Strategy for Microfinance in Egypt. French energy company Total is hosting a team of students in Venezuela, putting them to work on a market study to develop a sustainable business model for the lubricant industry. One team of Global MBA students has returned to Asia to work with private equity firm L Capital and two of the companies with which they have invested in India. The Value of your Cohort

Teamwork is an intrinsic part of the Global MBA. From coursework to committees, from interactive workshops to shared travel, from the team-based international immersion project to presentations and networking events, you will work closely with the other members of your cohort on a daily basis all year long. These individuals, who represent different nationalities and a diversity of expertise, will supplement your learning, challenge you to master effective communication and leadership skills, and hone your cross-cultural competencies. They are the foundation of a life-long network that you will foster here at ESSEC and your partners in your journey as a Global MBA student.

Saint-Cyr
Camp Cotquidan in Brittany is the French military academy where students participate in a leadership retreat as part of their program integration week. They engage in individual exercises, team based rescue operations and different situational activities to explore leadership traits as well as their group dynamic.

During our stay at SaintCyr, we used physical situations to explore what leadership means. What does it mean to be a leader and to be followed by individuals who do not think the same way? What does it mean to overcome your fears and be part of a team? I had an amazing time at Saint-Cyr. In two days I learned through doing what I could never have learned in a classroom. Aurlie Metcheka, Cameroon, Global MBA student 2011 - 2012

My class has students from 12 countries sharing their experiences, beliefs, and knowledge. Also, most of us have studied or worked outside the home country and these varied experiences add value to the discussions that happen in the class. Be it an engineer or a lawyer or a consultant or an art gallery manager or a mountaineer or an army officer, you name a profession I have someone in the class from that background. Such is the diversity that aids peer to peer learning. Shriram Venkatasubramanian, India, Global MBA student 2011-2012

The Global MBA students are talented, fully engaged, and eager to learn, participating actively in class in enriching discussions both amongst themselves and with the professor. The diversity of their backgrounds and their willingness to share their professional experiences, combined with their openness to new challenges, serve as powerful assets in the learning process. Working with the Global MBA has been a highly rewarding experience for me as a professor. Vincenzo Esposito Vinzi, Dean of Faculty and Faculty Affairs and Professor of Statistics at the Global MBA
