ABOUT ISM DHANBAD

The Indian School of Mines (ISM) is a fully residential and co-educational public university located in the mineralrich belt of India in the city of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. It was established in 1926 on the lines of the Royal School of Mines, London. What started as an institution to impart mining education has graduated into a full-fledged technical institution of international acclaim offering a host of programmes like B. Tech., M. Tech., M. Sc. Tech.,integrated M.Sc., integrated M.Sc.Tech. and MBA. In addition the School offers M. Phil. and full as well as part time Ph.D. programmes, while also awarding D.Sc. as the highest degree of academic achievement. The institute has 17 departments and 2 inter-disciplinary schools. The institute admits undergraduate students through the Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) and post-graduate through GATE. The Indian School of Mines holds the privilege of being an Institute of National Importance in India. COMPUTER CENTRE ISM has a state-of-the-art Computer Centre which supports campus wide Fiber Optic Network comprising of approx. 5000 nodes, that connects all the Academic Departments, Central Library, Administrative Departments, each room of all the Hostels, residence of faculty and officers. Departments and Hostels are connected to Computer Centre through Gigabit switches, whereas residential connectivity is provided through ADSL. Internet access is provided to all the users through two dedicated internet links of 1Gbps and 55Mbps from different ISPs. Computer Centre has a number of state-of-the-art servers, Linux and Windows Labs and application software. Web access is provided through proxy servers. Computer Centre is running a DHCP server for its campus users. Computer practical classes of Undergraduate/Postgraduate are being conducted at the Computer Centre. Staff trainings are organized by the Computer Centre time-to-time. Online tests for placement of students are also arranged by the computer centre.
ABOUT The Course

Hacking is basically finding out the loop holes and trying leak some information out of it, which may lead you to get some critical information like passwords, credit card details and can commit bank fraud, stealing of important information etc. The hackers also take possession of important resources of your computer by using all possible tools and techniques. In recent times it has also been observed that the hacking tools is also used to irritate the serious users by engaging the resources of the user. It is also assumed that the next generation war will take place in cyber world. This act of hackers are purely illegal and is a crime popularly known as cyber crime. Can we stop this crime? Difficult to say but one thing we can do , we can try to protect ourselves to some extent. How? Just by knowing some of the important techniques used by the hackers. The main objective of this course is to make our participants aware of some of the tricks and techniques used by the hackers. This will help us to protect our important information from being hacked. This course is designed for the first year students of various B.Tech., M.Tech. and other courses interested to know the basics of Ethical Hacking. The term Ethical hackers are more or less similar to the term hacker with only difference that an ethical hacker do not commit any fraud or inform us about the loopholes in our system.

Learning Outcomes
After completion of this course, the participant will not only be able to protect their information to some extent but also equipped with a knowledge of Dos and Donts as well.
