Whats Up Lower School?

Lower School Events

International Day
Saturday, September 14, 2013 was International Day. Some parents came and watched and helped us with our stands about different countries. We worked at our stands, but also played at other activities. Parents cooked and brought food from around the world. It was served in the cafeteria. My favorite event that happened on International Day was the Parade of Flags because I got to learn about other countries. My class (G3), was representing the country of Lithuania. We had Are You the Average Height of a Lithuanian?, Make Your Own Coat of Arms, and the Mini Basketball Challenge. I worked during the first shift for basketball. I also ate the Lithuanian bread and it tasted DELICIOUS! It was kind of hard

and the color was brown. There were also tiny holes in the bread. Ms. Alejandra and Dr. Teston gave a speech in the auditorium, and the Homeroom, Art, P.E., Music, Chinese, ESL teachers and parents talked about what happened in the school and what we are learning about. They also showed some of our work as a sample. Parents came at 6:30 and left at 8:30.

Year Book Picture Day

It was year book picture day on Friday, August 30, 2013. Some students from the Upper school came and took our pictures. First, they took them one person at a time. Then, they took a group (grade) picture.

Open House
It was Open House on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 (for the Lower School). Many parents came to the school to see what we are doing here. Also, many students came.

Recording Swimming
Last week, Mr.D told us to record our swimming lengths of flutter kicks with a kick board, our freestyle, our breast stroke, and all of the flutter kicks and others mixed together. We have 12 m, 18 m, and 25 m.

Seat-belts on the School Bus

by Andy the Ham

Last year, a car bumped the school bus. The students on the bus were afraid because of the wiggling of the bus. The bus driver kept us safe and we were transferred to another bus.

QISS Spotlight
by Roy the Cheese

I interviewed Ms. May last week and asked her 3 important questions. Roy: How old are you? Ms. May: 13 Roy: Where do you live? Ms. May: I dont know. Roy: How many students are you going to eat? Ms. May: All of them. I love Ms. May because she always has interesting things for us. For example, she has sticks with our names on them from which we can pick a beanbag, read a book, or even watch a movie. Ms. May has a fake friend and his name is Mr. Thing. This is part of how she keeps us from saying the word thing; we must say item, or object. Many grade

3s know that Ms. May is creative and she has lots of fun ideas about how to teach us. She even says she wants to eat students. I once saw Ms. May when I was out with Ms. Ho and Ms. May said, This boy smells like ketchup! I just ran away. Ms. May has a lot of skills with electronics, teaching, & recess duty. I love Ms. May!

This is the reason why we have to wear seat belts on our school bus. Students do not like the seat belts because they are tight, but they know why they are necessary. Stay safe, QISS!

Dont forget to wear your hat at recess!

Upper School Sports at QISS

by Elia Parlanti Right now, there are no upper school ACAMIS events. But last year, I saw a QISS vs YCIS soccer game. QISS lost 1-0. QISS played well, but YCIS played better and

QISS lost the competition. I hope we win the ACAMIS soccer tournament this year. I hope our team plays like professional soccer players. Im very excited about the next match!

Story Corner
History of the Sun
by Norah Mou (G4) Once upon a time, there were a group of ice monsters who lived on the Sun. Each morning they woke up and used their magic to make the Sun colder and colder. Days passed by and the sun turned -6000000000000000000000 degrees cold. One day, there was a thunderstorm that created 3000 strikes of lightning. The lightning shot the sun and the sun became hotter and hotter. Later, the ice monsters all melted into water. Then another group of people came to live on the sun and they were fire monsters. On April 13, 2013 many fire monsters died because of headaches. They couldnt find any medicine so they all died. 2000 years passed and the sun became full of fire again and because of this, the sun shines for every planet in the system. Mercury is the planet that is the closest to the Sun. Mercury and Venus are the hottest planets in the solar system. If you were in space than you would see that Venus seems to be the hottest because of its color. Earth is the only planet that people, animals, and plants can live on. The Earths surface is seventy four percent covered by ocean and water. Mars is also very interesting, because there is a huge mountain there called Mount Olympus. It is three times bigger than Mount Everest. Jupiter has a great red spot and there is a storm there that will last for four hundred years. Uranus is a planet that is tilted. It is very cold there. Saturn is a planet that is very, very light. It can float on rivers. Neptune is a planet that has a strong wind. Earths strongest wind compared to Neptunes worst wind would still not beat Neptunes wind. Every planet is unique, so if you have time look at some videos about the solar system.

Funny Express
by Danny Han (G5) We had swimming class last week. Everything was fine until I went to the locker. I put on an old slipper that was very slippery. I walked normally, but my slipper is slippery, remember? I slipped and fell over backwards. One thing I know is: I WILL NOT USE THAT SLIPPER AGAIN. Another time, I had to jump off the diving board for the first time, but it was too high (or so I thought). I had to sit on the board and slide off to go into the water!

The Solar System

by Megan Mou (G4) Do you know what a solar system is? Do you know how many planets are in the solar system? Let me tell you. A solar system is where the Sun and planets are. There are eight planets in the solar system. The names of the planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune. The planets orbit around the Sun again and again.
