Sub : 11th All India UCMAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition 2011 on 02.07.2011 (Saturday) at 9.00 AM & Prize Distribution on 03.07.2011 (Sunday) at 9.30 AM Venue for both Chennai Convention Centre, CTC Complex, Nandambakkam, Chennai.

We are glad to announce that the 11th All India UCMAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition 2011 will be held on the 2nd July 2011 (Saturday) at 9.00 AM (Venue- Chennai Convention Centre, CTC Complex, Nandambakkam, Chennai-600089) and the Prize Distribution Ceremony for the winners in the National Level only, will be held on the 3rd July 2011 (Sunday) at 9.30 AM at the same venue. For detailed information please refer attached sheets.

11th All India Competition:


The Franchisees need to register students for the 11th All India UCMAS Abacus Mental Arithmetic competition to be held on the 2nd July 2011 (Saturday) at 9.00 AM, by sending in the Applications, as per the procedure given below:

11th All India Competition- National level Honours (Prize Distribution):


Only the National level winners from all the states will be honoured on the 3rd July 2011 at Chennai Convention Centre, Chennai, from 9.30 AM onwards.

Karnataka State Level Event:


There will be a Karnataka State Level event separately sometime in October / November 2011, in which the participants from Karnataka State only will be reckoned. The details of the event venue, date and time, will be announced separately through a circular to be issued shortly. The participants from Karnataka for the All India Competition only could register now, as per the details given above. Competition Fee: The participation fee for the 11th All India Competition is Rs.300/- per student - and the same needs to reach us through the respective Franchisee centres along with fully and properly filled in Application forms, as per the attachment. Since the last date for the 11th All India Competition is 1-6-2011 for receipt of applications and we would not be in a position to extend the date due to the constraints that we have, the franchise centres are requested to announce to the parents/students well before the Summer holidays and collect the filled in application forms and the fees before the students go for Summer holidays. Grouping as per age: Months and days are not accounted as per the rules already fixed for the competition. Only Year of Birth is reckoned for the purpose. 1.

Objectives
The Competition aims in its efforts: i) ii) iii) iv)

to give chance for each student to compete at the National level. to promote and advocate the learning of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic. to elevate the standard of performance of learners of Abacus and Mental Arithmetic. To foster a closer relationship between the Course Instructors and students of various centres. To certify ones capability in Abacus or Mental Arithmetic.

No changes in 2011 competition. They will be as they were in the year 2010
a. The number of sums - 150 sums for Z group / Incomplete 1st term - 200 - sums for A, B, C, i.e., 1st term, 2nd term, 3rd term.

b. The time limit for the above groups is 5 minutes. c. For all other terms, as per the Question pattern 8 minutes duration. c. Eligibility The competition is open to UCMAS students as per the eligibility criteria detailed elsewhere and who are undergoing coaching in any UCMAS Franchise Centres in the country. Centres which have not renewed franchise cannot send the students for participation. Students who are taking part in 8th Term (Group H) and those taking part in GL (Group K) must have completed recently or at least after the 10th National Competition conducted in July 2010. Students appearing for the first time will be eligible for the term they had completed as on 31.05.2011. All the three royalty installments for and upto the completed term should have been received by corporate office on or before 31.05.2011 The Students for whom Royalty is paid for a particular term and course material drawn for the next term will become the criterion for having finished the term paid for. Age calculation: Year 2011 MINUS Year of Birth would be taken for the calculation of age. Days and months are not reckoned to arrive at the age to fix the groups. A student can appear in one level only. The students who have already taken part in the Last year competition (July 2010) are eligible to take up a level / Term which is atleast 3 terms ahead of Last year. (i.e. if a student has taken part in 3rd Term last year, he / she should to take up 6th term or higher level as eligible this year. This rule is applicable to all terms/ groups. The same will be strictly followed. The Franchisees Signature & seal (which are a must in the application form for registration) confirm the eligibility level of the participant, as per the rules of the Competition.

No student will be permitted to appear for level/s lower than the normal (as per the above mentioned rule), quoting discontinuation / break as the reason would not be taken as an excuse. 3 months per term - yardstick will be strictly followed.

Validation and Disqualification


a. b. Royalty statements as on 31.05.2011 will be taken for validation to find out the correct term for each and every student. In case a student is found to be admitted into lower category of competition than actual completed level, i. ii. Student will not be issued hall ticket. The Franchise / Centre concerned shall be notified in letter of warning and will be automatically disqualified for the Best Performance Centre Award and made to face the other consequences as may be decided by the committee.

Judging
a. b. c. Question and answer sheets are the property of UCMAS Corporate office and shall not be circulated after the exam even on request. There will be a panel of judges from the UCMAS Corporate office. In the event of a tie amongst the participants, i. The jury will rank the participants based on accuracy rate vis--vis the attempted sums and / or the highest score in addition / subtraction. ii. In case the tie persists, the lower age student will be declared winner iii. If a tie still persists both/all will be declared as winners. The decision of the jury is final and no further correspondences shall be entertained. Incase any parent wishes to apply for rechecking of the answer sheet, they may do so, after one week from the date of competition, but not later than 15 days from the date of the competition, by making a written request & paying a rechecking fees of Rs.600/- per student. Rechecking will be done by a panel of judges and the result of rechecking will be informed to the parent / Franchisee. No request will be entertained after the cut off date.

Prizes
a. b. Trophies will be awarded to Champion, I Runner up, II Runner up, III Runner up, IV Runner up, V Runner up, VI and VII Runner Up in each group, by the chief guest on the stage itself. In addition to the trophy, the champions from Term 1 to Term 3 will be given a bi-cycle each as gift or cash cheque in its place, Term 4 to Term 5, one champion (from each term, whoever gets the highest mark) will get a computer, the other champions will get a cycle each as gifts or cash gift, as aforesaid. Term 6 onwards one champion up to GL, from each term, whoever gets the highest mark will be sponsored to Malaysia to participate in the International Competition (Air ticket, lodging & Boarding for the specified dates only) and the others will get a bi-cycle each or cash prize in its place. Further, for becoming eligible to be a winning champion, the contending champion should have got at least 30% cut off marks to become champion in the levels. c. Students who have been to Malaysia already on sponsorship of Corporate Office will not be considered for sponsorship to Malaysia again, though they emerge as winners in the 11th All India competition, in which case the next Champion prize winner in the order will be eligible. Consolation prizes for each category will be determined after isolating Champion to VII Runner up prize. 25% of the total participating students in each group will get the

consolation prize. These prizes will be handed over to the franchisee after a week from the date of competition separately but not on the stage. e. Merit Certificate for Champion, I Runner up, II Runner up, III Runner up, IV Runner up, V Runner up , VI & VII Runner Up will be issued on the stage itself. Consolation prize winners and Certificate of participation for the rest of participants will be given at a later date through franchise / centres Lucky Draw: The lucky draw coupon will be part of hall ticket of the students. All participants who take part in the competition will be eligible for this lucky draw irrespective of whether they get any prize or not in the competition. This will be conducted during or at the end of the prize distribution Ceremony on 03.07.2011 Competition Fee

All applications together with the competition fees should be sent to corporate office. The competition fee prescribed by the Corporate office is as follows:

Participation fees along with applications for all participating students should be sent together under one DD (and not in piece meal) to the Corporate office on or before 01.06.2011 up to 09.00 p.m. Rs. 600/- per student if received at corporate office after 01.06.2011 but not later than 06.06.2011 up to 09.00 p.m.

All applications received after the deadlines will be rejected. All incomplete / incorrect applications even though received in time will be rejected.
Participants must wear proper attire and UCMAS - T. Shirt. Students belonging to KG, Basic, Elementary A and Elementary B (i.e. Z, A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3 and C1, C2, C3) must bring their ABACUS. All students must bring the Hall ticket and pencil /s to the competition hall. All students should report at the designated time on the day of the competition.

Right of Amendment
UCMAS India Corporate Office reserves the rights to make amendments to the rules and regulations, if required without giving prior notice and / or postpone / cancel the competition for the reasons beyond the control of the company / organizers. Please contact Mr. K. Jothimani, Sr. Manager MF Relations, Mr. A.V. Sekhar, VP or Mr. Abdul Jaffar, Admin-Manager (044 - 26182396) if you require any clarification to the above matter.

Entry & Exit procedure for Students


Students of any batch should report half an hour before the scheduled time of competition at the entry gate/s of the hall or as indicated in the hall ticket ( Hall Tickets will be colour coded and each colour will represent a batch (No.1 onwards till the last batch) . Students of the running batch along with one parent/escort will be permitted through the specified Entry gate only. Entry will not be permitted through the gate other than that specified in the Hall ticket. Students will enter into the hall after getting the hall ticket checked and the tear-off given to the gate personnel on duty. Students must be taken out of the hall by the parents or the escorts through the Exit gates only and the students will pass through the Exits as directed from the stage. Parents therefore should listen to the instructions from the Announcer at the Stage.

Announcement of Results

Results will be announced on 02-07-2011, late evening or earlier if possible, after the Competition. Efforts will be taken to host the results in the website www.ucmasindianac.com

Very Important:
Prize distribution is expected to start by 9.30 A.M on 03.07.2011. In case there is delay on account of conditions beyond the control of the organizers, the company cannot not be held responsible for the same. It will be the responsibility of the Franchisees and the Master Franchisees to suitably inform the parents in advance, so that the parents will not face the inconvenience of missing trains / buses to travel back to their locations. The parents are requested to book for return journey on the next day of the competition or arrange to have the trophies of the students collected by the franchisees / CIs with an authorization / authority letter at the time of announcement of prizes on the stage. Master Franchisees & Franchisees should ensure that the parents do not approach with requests during the prize distribution for early presentation / handing over of the prizes, which will not be strictly possible. MFs and Franchisees are requested not to encourage such requests of parents, as it will affect the total proceedings and will be an inconvenience and injustice done to other waiting parents and others.

Note to the Franchisees & the C.Is:


1. Franchisees and CIs are requested to register before 15th June 2011, their names offering to be volunteers for the Competition and the Prize Distribution Ceremony on the 2nd and the 3rd July, 2011. 2. All the Franchisees & the CI volunteers should be present at the competition venue on the 02.07.2011 by 7 AM and on 3rd July, 2011 by 8.15 AM 3. C.Is selected for invigilation / supervision purpose will be intimated sufficiently in advance so that they would have a briefing session at least one week before the competition. Similarly the Franchisees nominated for supervision would be given the briefing on the duties they are allotted. 4. Selected C.Is will be attached to the number of students in each batch as per the batch size and structure. 5. C.Is should give intensive training to the students participating in the Competition to improve their performance levels. 6. Franchise should ensure that students are wearing U C MAS T-Shirts.

Definitions
1. 2. Centre is a place where UCMAS Mental Arithmetic classes are conducted. Each centre will have its own Franchisee Code. All Centres should have sent their Royalty statement as on 31.05.2011 without fail on or before 01-06-2011 showing very clearly all the students number, name & the royalty paid.

Award: Top 5 Franchisees based on points, will be short-listed for this award. Winning Franchisees will be awarded Trophies &
Certificate also on the stage.

Royalty received during period 1st June 10 to 31st May 11 will be considered for this purpose. (For Franchises newly signed monthly average of Royalties for the period of Franchise as on 31.05.2011)

MF will intimate the figures for the Franchisees concerned, so that the figures will be verified with the reported figures for verification and decision.
