2 Acts 11:26, “…And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”
Many people in America identify themselves as Christians. Few however, are living Christ-like
lives or even understand what it means to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. The term “Christian”
has been so misused and misrepresented that it has almost lost meaning.

3 Are You a Christian? Don’t Answer Too Fast

Many acknowledge a belief in Jesus Christ and refer to themselves as Christians, but their
lifestyle, thoughts, ambitions, interests and actions reveal just the opposite. Many may be
quite surprised to learn that they are hypocrites or just plain deceived by a false gospel (2
Corinthians 11:4). If you do not hate the sin in your life, your

This tract will present scripture from the Bible to reveal just what it means to identify
with Jesus Christ.

Jesus taught repentance: Luke 5:32, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinnersto

repent ye and believe the gospel.” Luke 13:3, “I (Jesus) tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye

one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no
repentance.” (also read Matthew 4:17, 9:13, 11:20; and Mark 2:17, 16:30)
Jesus said: Luke 24:47, “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his
name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. It’s not an option!
The disciples taught repentance: Acts 2:38, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift
of the Holy Ghost.” Mark, 6:12, “And they went out and preached that men should repent.”

7 What is Repentance (Seeing Clearly)
The unbelieving and deceived are totally blinded to the truth of Gods Word. You must pray
that God will open your understanding and draw you unto Jesus. Seek Him
2 Corinthians 4:4, “In whom the god of this world hath blinde the minds of them which
believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, dwho is the image of God, should shine
unto them.” The light exposes the sin and wickedness! Not

Unbelief declares

obedience! Unbelief = Disobedience
2 Corinthians 11:3-4, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his
subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that
cometh preacheth another Jesus , whom we have not preached, or if you receive another
spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might
bear with him.” Satan’s false gospelallows you to continue in sin.
The essence of sin is the determination to live your own life - To do your thing.

8 What is Repentance? (Fearing God)

The fear of God is the desire to know and do His will in
your life. Proverb 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the
knowledge of the holy is understanding.” God hates sin!!

Proverb 8:13, “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride and arrogancy, and the evil way, and
the forward (crooked, perverse) mouth, do I hate.”

9 What is Repentance? (Understanding Your Wickedness)

After seeking God you must come to the place of understanding how your sins have separated
you from a truly righteous and Holy God. All have sinned – Romans
3:23 between you and your God, and your
Isaiah 59:2, “But your iniquities have separated
Sinshave hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
God Hates sin! Psalm 45:7
God is so wroth with sin that He would rather send His own Son to step under this wrath
and take the penalty of sin, rather than leave one sin unpunished. Sin is not excused!
Psalm 5:4, “For thou art not a God that hath pleasure Psalm7:11,”God judgeth the righteous, and
in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.” God is angry with the wicked every day.”
Proverb 15:9, 밫 he way of the wicked is anabominatio to the Lord: but he loveth him
that followeth after righteousness. Proverb n 10:16, “The labor of the righteous tendeth to life:

The very essence of sin is the Psalm 30:12, “There is a generation that are pure in
determination to have your own way – their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their
to retain self-will and be self-pleasing. filthiness.” That’s this self-righteous generation!
10 What is Repentance? (Why Jesus Came)
Many people think that Jesus came to save them from Hell. This is not the case. Hell is the
consequence of sin (wickedness). Jesus came to save you from your sins. To be saved from sin
is to be saved from the love of sin. Too love sin is to practice sin – to be comfortable in it.
Matthew 1:21, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for
he shall save his people from their sins.” Jesus does not save you for
yourto sin!
1 John 3:5, “And you know that he was manifested take away our sins; and in him is no sin.”
Has your desire to sin been taken away? Do you even see sin as a problem? If not, you have
never understood your wickedness and certainly never truly repented. Seek God
John 3:19, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved
the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil
hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that
doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought
in God.” If you do not want to deal with the sin in your life
then you love darkness and hate the light

11 What is Repentance? (Why Jesus Came)

Many wish to live in their wickedness supposing that the finished work of Christ on the cross
and His shed blood covers and allows their continued sinfulness. If you think this, you are very
deceived. The devil’s lie: that you can believe in Christ and remain
in we
1 John 1:6, “If sin.
say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do
not the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
If you do not hate sin and fight sin in your life then you are walking in darkness. To be cleansed
from sin certainly cannot allow one to continue therein. You can’t have it both
ways! sinneth hath not seen him,
1 John 6, 8-9, “Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever
neither known him. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the
beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the
works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in
him: and he cannot commit sin, because he is born of God.”
Galatians 2:17, “But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found
sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.” Don’t shame
Him!

12 What is Repentance? (Why Jesus Came)

If the thought of totally submitting your life to God – that is denying your own self-centered,
self-seeking sinful life - sounds like foolishness to you then you are a lost unregenerate person
who needs to cry out to God for direction (seek Him – ask God to draw you to Christ).
1 Corinthians 2:14, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: For they
are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
This applies to you even if you have attended
Original

all your 3:3-4, life!
“But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden,
sin:
God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said
unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then
your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as Gods, knowing good and evil.”
The nature of sin is that man wants to do what is right in his own eyes – to follow his own will
and to please himself, to disregard God’s will and direction. Until you see how sin has
separated you from God and are willing to yield to God, there can be no reconciliation.
Can you see that man rejected God’s will to pursue his own? - SELF
The devil’s deception is that you can sin (disobey and rebel against God) and still live.
13 What is Repentance? (Reconciliation)
We have been separated from God through sin (our rebellion).
Reconciliation is on Reconciliation
God’s terms requires

Romans 5:8, 10, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us. For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his
son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” Live for
imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us theChrist!
2 Corinthians 5:19, “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not
word of reconciliation.”
Those who desire reconciliation will put their will aside and submit to God:
2 Corinthians 5:15, “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live
unto themselves, but unto him which died for them and rose again.
Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me,
and gave himself for me.” Jesus paid the penalty for your sin, will you be
Reconciled? If it’s not precious to you – you’re not worthy

14 What is Repentance? (Reconciliation)

God’s wrath was appeased through Christ’s sacrifice. Jesus’ death brought the opportunity for
reconciliation. Can you imagine God’s wrath on those disobedient rebellious ones that will
reject so great a gift? Can a person claim to be reconciled to God while they walk in rebellion
(sin) against God? Does that even make sense? Plead for His mercy!
1 Peter 4:18, “And if the righteou scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the
s
sinner appear? It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Understand this: Christ died for your sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). Jesus died so that
you might have everlasting life (John 3:16). You didn’t deserve it and you certainly can’t earn
it. You have nothing to offer God worthy of this gift. Eternal life is God’s gift (unmerited)
solely due to His mercy and grace for those who will follow Christ. Read Titus 3:5
Isaiah 64:6, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;
and we all do fade as the leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” God is Merciful! Psalm 86:5

15 So What Is Grace?
Titus 2:11-14, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching
us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and glorious appearing of the great God and
our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity
(sin), and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” 
Romans 5:21, “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through
righteousnessunto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The grace that brings salvation is not for those

sinfulness!
Grace produces holiness:
Be Righteous and
Holy
Romans 6:22-23, “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your
fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God
is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” OK to sin, think again!

James 3:17-18, “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea a man may say,

John 15:1-11, “I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me
that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it
may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean (pruned) through the word which I have spoken
unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide
in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that
abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do
nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men
gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words
abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father

18 What is Repentance? (What Must I Do?)

Repentance is a changing of mind about one’s sin, one’s relationship with God, and about
Jesus Christ. It is sorrow for sin – a heart determined to forsake sin. Sorrow and regret for past
sins is not sufficient. The old wicked nature and sinful lifestyle must be abandoned. Biblical
faith demands and produces costly and radical changes in one’s life. Yield to God!
Isaiah 55:6-7, “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him, while he is near: Let
the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the
Lord, and he will have mercy on him.” Supreme commitment to Christ
Proverb 28:13, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and
forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Submit to Jesus as Lord of your Life!
Acts 2:36
Repentance focuses on what must be released and forsaken (sins/old lifestyle) prior to what
may be gained (mercy and grace). There is a fundamental difference between a Christian
and an unbeliever. The Christian lives to Glorify God,
2 Peter 3:9, Isaiah 1:18, Isaiah 59:2, the sinner rejects God's claim on his life and lives to
Luke 13:3, Acts 3:19, Psalm 86:5 please himself.

19 What is Repentance? (What Must I Do?) Cry out!
First you must confront (come to the light) your past wickedness and the sinfulness of your life
and have true godly sorrow. You must ask God’s forgiveness. Cry out for God’s mercy and ask
Jesus to be Lord of your life. Then you must be willing to totally forsake your old life (sins,
selfishness) and follow Jesus. Matthew 16:24-26, “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man
will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. For whosoever
will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.”
Matthew 10:38, “And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”
Luke 14:27, 33, “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple.” So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be
my disciple.” Once one commits to follow Christ there can be no

20 What is Repentance? (What Must I Do?)

When you decide to follow Christ, you are dying to your old way of
life.
The old life (old man) would be that self-willed, self-seeking, rebellious, sinful person that does
what is right in his own eyes. One determined to live according to his own will in a manner
based upon his own fleshly desires. Live for self and die, die to self and
Romans 6:4-6, “Therefore we are buriedlive!
with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the
likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body
of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
Ephesians 4:22-24, “That ye put off concerning the former conversation (life) the old man,
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And
that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
Colossians 3:3-4, “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who
is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
If you live as the world then you have not let go of
the old man.

21 What Happens To Me After I Repent?

If you have sought God and truly repented, then
Newness of Life
Great Joy!
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
John 3:3, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a
man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Conformed to God’s
will!
The Lord regenerates (renews) us. We have new desires and affections. We serve from the
heart, not out of compulsion. Our greatest delight is to know and do God’s will.
Philippians 2:13, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
Repent, be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost Acts 2:38
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, which the Father will send in my name, he shall
teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto
you. John 14:26
You now become dead to sin, self and the things of this world. You are a new person in Christ
Jesus! Everything that is abominable to God must become loathsome to
you.
22 Our Example of How To Live
Matthew 5:19,23 “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily I say unto you, The
Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth,
these also doeth the Son likewise. That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the
Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoreth not the Father which hath sent him.”
Jesus did according to the Father, we do according to the Son.
1 Peter 2:21-22, “For even hereunto were we called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving
us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his
mouth. 1 Peter 2:24, “Who his own self bare our sins in his

25 Can A Christian Live In The Flesh? No way!
To be carnal (or live in the flesh) is to be unregenerate - that is not having died to self. If you
are carnal then you have not let go of the old man.
Romans 8:6-8, “For to be carnally minded is death ; but to be spiritually minded is life and
peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity (opposed) against God: for it is not subject to the law
of God, neither indeed can it be. So they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

A follower of Christ lives to glorify God above all else (at all times),
the sinner rejects God’s claim on his life and lives to please himself.

26 True Christians Follow God’s Spirit

Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who
walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.” Good News!
Galatians 5:16, “This I say then, walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
2 Thessalonians 3:3, “But the Lord is faithful who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”
The message must lead you to God, not away from Him!
Beware - Theres some false prophets out there!
1 Thessalonians 5:22, “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” - Certainly don’t do any!
1 Peter 3:12, “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their
prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
Ephesians 5:11, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather
reprove them.” Romans 12:9, “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil;
cleave to that which is good.”

27 End Times False Gospel

Many have been incorrectly taught that salvation is gained by simply believing on Jesus Christ.
True saving faith is always accompanied by action. If you have been deceived in this way please
consider the following: Lack of obedience = Rebellion
Mark 12:29-30, “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O
Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt l the Lord thy God with all thy

commandment.”
ove
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
Obedience rather than a sacrifice!
How did Jesus define loving God? John 14:15, “If ye l me, keep my commandments.”
Jesus himself defined love for God as obedie. . Therefore, if you are not obedient to Jesus,
ove
ncethe foremost of all commandments and you will not
then you are in a constant state of breaking
be saved. Can this be showed in elsewhere in scripture? Yes, Hebrews 5:9, “And being made
perfect, he became the author of eternal salvati unto all them that o him;”
on
God’s message to those who call themselves Christians and live for self
and in sin:
bey
Titus 1:16, “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable,
and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate (worthless).” Love = Obey
28 Our Love Toward God
John 14:21, “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and
he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to
him.” John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
1 John 2:3-5, “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He
that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
But whosoever keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected; hereby we know
we are in him.” Luke 6:46, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
James 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
I John 5:2-3, “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep
(obey) his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and
his commandments are not grievous.” Do you see a pattern here?
Hebrews 5:9, “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them
that obey him;” Revelation 22:14, “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may
have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
Luke 11:28, “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

29 Is Salvation Really That Easy?

Luke 13:23-24, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto
them, Strive to enter in at the strait (narrow) gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter
in, and shall not be able.” Why are many not able to enter? They all
sought!
Many would have you believe that a quick, repeated prayer formula gains you instant and
irrevocable salvation. Stop listening to others and Read God’s Word
Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter foryeyourself!
in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that
leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and
narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 22:14, “For many are called, but few are chosen.” But I was told….. Few?
God does not have limited slots – most people just won’t commit their lives (die to self) to God
and be transformed into his image (2 Corinthians 3:18). It takes effort! They never truly repent
and receive him. Desire! Dedication! Willingness!
Commitment!
Acts 14:22, “Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith,
and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” Effort!

31 Sin Separates
The majority of churches today teach that we cannot defeat sin and that Christ’s precious blood
covers continued sinfulness. Of course to defeat sin one must be willing to totally submit to God
and He gives you the ability. The problem is that most are not willing to give all to Christ.
Hebrews 10:26&29, “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the
truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye,
shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the
blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite
unto the spirit of grace.”

God: I speak this to your shame.” Flee from sin!

world passeth away, and the lust thereof: But he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”

33 Living For Christ – A Practical Enjoying the sins that put Christ on the cross?
In most every home in America there is a most cherished and revered item (idol). It is called the

television. Most start and end their day with it. Folks bow before it and give it their undivided
attention. The TV mocks everything sacred and holy in God’s Word. At a minimum it takes
precious time and attention (focus) off of God. The TV will fill your heart full of all manner of
evil and wickedness to the extent that victory over sin in your life may be impossible.
It’s spell over people is scary! An idol that speaks.
A typical day/night of TV viewing may include: Foul language, adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife,
seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, lying, homosexuality,
covetousness, maliciousness, deceit, insolence, rebellion, disobedience to parents, gambling,
spite, pride/arrogance, wickedness, gossip, boasting, blasphemy, false accusers, incontinence,
unthankfulness, gluttony, mischief, scheming, selfishness, traitors, unmerciful, lovers of selves
– I think you get the idea. We will justify what we choose not to overcome.
