INTODUCTION

As a first student of Bachelor of Technology with Education (Mechanical Engineering), we are required to do an assessment based on what we have gained from Workshop Safety and Management subject which have been lectured by Assc. Prof. Dr. Wilfredo Herrera Libunao. This assessment have been done on 1November 2012. A short briefing about the Machining workshop of JKM has been done by the person-in charge of the workshop, Mr. Khazaren. We also do some observation by ourself around the workshop with the permission from Mr. Khazaren.

OBJECTIVE

This assessment has been conduct to evaluate about the safety and management effectiveness and efficiency of the workshop. We also can relate what have been we studied in the Workshop Safety and Management subject in term of safety and management to this assessment. We also can get an early exposure about safety and management of a workshop before we involve in real working environment.

ASSESSMENT & PROCEDURE

Before conducting this assessment, we have highlight some of the criteria for the assessment: a) Fire safety b) Electrical safety c) Ventilation d) Space allotment e) Lighting

f) Equipment, tools and machine g) Safety precautions h) Housekeeping i) Planning j) Organizing k) Directing l) Controlling

By highlighting these criteria, we can concentrate on how to evaluate the workshop in term of safety. We have been brief shortly about the workshop by Mr. Khazaren. He is also involved in the discussion about the management of the workshop for the assessment. After the discussion, we take some time to make our own observation about the safety around the workshop. We also took some picture to been attach in our report.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION.

Here are some findings from our observation, interview and discussion :

6. Equipment, tools and machine Overall, the equipment and tools are place in their right place in systematic ways. This is because these tools have their own rack to place and their own cabinets to place the equipment for machine. Besides, the layout for the machine was very strategic and it give a comfort place for the students when using the machine for their works. Every machine in the workshop has their own maintenance schedule and will be maintenance according to the schedule by the technicians.

7. Safety precautions Not only that, there are many warning signs in the workshop. This will be a good warning to the students for having a 100% attention during using machine and taking a very carefully action. Machine guarding also added to the grinding machine for extra protection from the get inside our eyes. There is also a special soap to remove traces of oil on hand. Students are also told that according to Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) while operating the machine

8. Housekeeping The student's responsibility to ensure that the workshop is in a clean condition before leaving the workshop. Teachers or lecturers to monitor students while performing housekeeping and ensure that students are doing something right. For the machine, the user's responsibility to clean the machine. 5S practices are practiced in the workshop.

The system has just since 2010 but the results can already be seen from finishing workshop. 9. Floor plan Floor plans are available. In this plan shows the arrangement position of doors, windows and a variety of equipment designed and systematically. 10. Management a) Planning i. ii. iii. Aims to ensure that every student has the proper skills while learning in workshops both in theory and practical. Lesson plans in accordance with the syllabus prescribed. Planning and distribution requirements of the machine for each student.

b) Organizing i. Ensuring that all activities and resources not running from the goal. ii. Ensure the effectiveness of the planned activities can help achieve the goal. c) Directing i. Involves the cooperation of all parties starting from the top through to the students. The authorities will provide instruction and motivate students in ensuring that the goals can be achieved. ii. The authorities also have a role in dividing the task, helping staff or students to perform tasks and provide information related to assigned tasks. d) Controlling i. Cost of materials - managed by admin. Admin will divide the budget provided by the government to each workshop there. ii. The purchase of materials is done once a year after the budget available. Usually purchased usually sufficient materials for students for two semesters. Purchasing in this way is found to save costs.

iii. In terms of maintenance, the minor service done by the supervisor or breakdown own workshop. But for major service or breakdown will be handed over to the contractor responsible. This is also to some extent to reduce costs. iv. Whereas in control the use and maintenance of machinery, a new check sheet is provided to record each use and maintenance of the machine. v. Control in terms of the use of the workshop was done by giving the key to the supervisor or lecturer who will use the workshop only.

Tambah la mana2 yang patut ye.... ni jer yg mamapu aku buat... oh my english. Msukkan gambar kat maner2 yg patut n jgn lupe carta organisasi tuh CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION
