The teacher is a diplomat and ambassador of tact and sensitivity, as he/she facilitates productive, positive interactions among the multiplicity of personalities, cultures, beliefs and ideals Unknown

INTRODUCTION The teacher is primarily meant for the classroom to teach. The classroom is his/her first community, a community of pupils/students. But he/she has other communities to relate with the teaching community and the community outside the school. The teaching community consists of his/her fellow teachers, his/her colleagues and his/her superiors. The community outside the schools includes parents of his/her students, local officials, alumni/alumnae and other members of the community in which the school is located. To function well in the classroom and in the community, he/she must be equipped with competencies. Competencies refer to knowledge, skills and attitudes that a teacher ought to possess for him/her to perform his/her tasks satisfactorily. These competencies are captured and presented in the National Competency-Based Standards framework. In this Chapter, you are expected to:

The 21st Century Teacher

Brenda B. Corpuz, Ph. D Gloria G. Salandanan, Ph. D.

If we teach today what we taught yesterday we rob our children of tomorrow. SUMMARY To remain relevant and interesting, the teacher must possess the 21st century skills. These are 1) effective communication skills, 2) learning and innovation skills, 3) life and career skills and lastly, 4) information, media and technology skills. Lesson 3

School and Community Relations

It takes a village to raise a child - African proverb SUMMARY School and the community are the mainsprings of effective and powerful forces that can create a wholesome climate for mutual gains. School is located at the center of town or city and is to daily scrutiny by the members of their community. Parent is the first teacher in the home while school teachers is continued enriching the students knowledge. Every learner experiencing difficulties in terms of their study habits in school, negative attitudes ability to accomplish assignments irregular attendance problem with their self-discipline and a lot more. As their teacher you may provide a solution to their problems. And teachers must know what the interests of his /her students are to participate and to become the discussions alive. Values must be developed to the learners or students. Giving respect to the elders and the rights of others, persistence, cooperation, willingness to share and deep sense of responsibility are the most desirable values that a learner must possess.

POINT OF VIEW: School and community must have a partnership for the betterment, effectiveness and to have powerful forces.

They said that our parent is the first person who teaches us, although they teach us but these are only the basic knowledge. Like for example on having faith in god, having respect to the authority and the rights of others and a lot more, but instead we need the presence of others especially teachers in the school. Why? Because they continued enriching and providing a students knowledge and they can learned to the teachers through their experiences. The students and teachers first meet up in what we called school, which is a sacred place that is located usually located at the center of the town or a city. All teachers encountered lot of problems and difficulties in their students. As a second parent of their students, teachers must provide an appropriate solution to their students problems and difficulties. And tell or ask them if they have a problem, and if they had asked them if what is it, for you able to help them and understand their situation and you may discuss it with their parents about what happening to their child.

Lesson 4

Linkages and Networking with Organizations

We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by thousand invisible threads, and along these sympathetic fibers, our actions run as causes and return to us as results. SUMMARY Creation of networks and linkages are an essential component of any development program and provide synergies for the program to build upon from a point of advantage to a point of strength. Networking and Linkages basically means forming formal and informal partnerships and ties with other organizations in different areas of mutual interest and/or benefits. The first step is for the school to prepare a list of projects and activities it plans to undertake including the much needed assistance in terms of human and materials resources, then determine the institutions organization with the parallel objectives and service. The following are some of the working linkage between schools and nationwide and association centers local offices manned by a complete set of officials and active members. A.LINKAGE First International Linkages: Pi lambda theta- is an international honor society and professional association of women educators deals with the advances and trends in teacher education which are discussed among the local member upon their return. INNOTECH-one of its projects is to update the teachers knowledge and skills in implementing alternative learning system. it has prepared a comprehensive framework on peace and multi-cultural diversity.

Association for Supervision and curriculum Development (ASCD)- is an membership organization that developed programs, products, and services essentials to way educators learn, teach and lead. Second is the National and Local Linkages could be established between universities and colleges offering identical degrees. And joint researches could be conducted by two or three universities depending on their respective expertise. B. NETWORKING 1. Networking with Professional Organization- network is a grid or web whose that members actively demonstrate how they work together to attain common objectives, intake innovative practices and update members regarding breakthrough in different disciplines. Network composed of several institution are also termed consortion wherein several colleges of different universities bind themselves for a common goal. Some example of this are: Consortium among Universities and Colleges With subject Specialist Teacher Education Institutions National Organization 2. Networking with Foundations a. The Educational research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation, INC.- has a flagship program, education mostly of the out-of-school youth. b. Metrobank Inc.- has a flagship project that search for outstanding teachers.

c. Network of Outstanding Teachers and Educators (NOTED)

3. Networking with Government offices Literacy Coordinating Council(LCC) Dept. of Science and Technology (DOST) The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) The Teacher Education Council (TEC) 4. Networking with Media Broadcasts ABS-CBN and GMA Foundation Government and private channels. Publication and PRINTS Projected Materials

POINT OF VIEW Based on my understanding my point of view about linkage and networking with Organization that are schools or a teacher cannot stand by their own because they need also partner or an supporters to all of their projects for the school even for students. Linkage means "the manner or style of being united". Networking is just communication to others or just a connection with other organization to maintain the relationship between the schools and the foundation. In this lesson said that schools need to build a good relationship to other organization to continue the support them for the students and teachers like giving books, good facilitate and scholarships and rewarding for the outstanding person

than be qualified. And also its good for the schools because it is a easy way to promote their schools that their having a good quality of teaching skills.

CONCLUSION Being a teacher you should not just confined yourself within the four corners of your classroom even if it is meant for you to stay in the classroom. You should also have a social life in dealing with your co-teachers, officials (community and school) and with the parents of your students. Establishing good relationship with them would also provide you harmonious teaching life to where you are now. And to be functional in every task you will engage you must be possessing competencies for you to be able to perform well. The competencies that a teacher must equipped are stated in the NCBTS developed by the DepEd for you to be an effective and efficient educator to your students as well as with members of the community. No man is an island, we are made to interact and deal with each other. Thus, being an educator you give your share to your environment and your environment would also take to give something to in return because you are part of it and you treat them as part of your own.
