Feeding the Five Thousand

Beginner Series, Quarter 3, Number 38 Hello Boys and Girls! Uncle Steve has a story for you today from the Holy Bible about how Jesus multiplied a little boys' lunch to feed more than five thousand people. This story comes from Matthew 14 verses 15 to 21; Mark 6 verses 30 to 41; Luke 9 verses 10 to 14; and John 6 verses 1 to 14.
And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.1 And he took them, and went aside privately2 over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias,3 into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 4 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately. And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him. 5 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.6 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.7 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: 8 and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. 9 And when it was evening,10 Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company..., he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. 11 And when the day was now far spent, his12 twelve13 disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages,14 and lodge,15 and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing

to eat.16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. 17 And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? 18 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? 19 He said, Bring them hither to me.20 And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company 21 upon the green grass.22 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.23 Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.24 And Jesus took25 the five loaves and the two fishes; he looked up to heaven, and blessed.26 And when he had given thanks,27 and brake the loaves,28 he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.29 And they did all eat, and were filled.30 he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.31 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. 32 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.33

Appeal
When Jesus asked the little boy to share his lunch, he gave all that he had. He did not save anything for himself. Then Jesus blessed it so that everyone had enough to eat. If the little boy had not shared his lunch, he would have missed out on the miracle. Jesus tells us in Luke 6 verse 38:
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over. (Lu 6:38 AV)

Whatever we give to Jesus, He will bless and give us much more in return. Will you choose today to give all that you have to Jesus?
