What is .Net?

.NET is Microsoft's set of unified programming languages that allow developers to create enterprise-class Web and desktop applications across C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET and C++.NET. It includes a powerful set of libraries called the .NET Framework that makes it easier and faster to program than ever before. NOTE: if you're planning on using .NET for web development, always make sure that your host supports IIS. It would be best to choose a windows web hosting plan.

What is C/ C++?
C was one of the first general-purpose high-level programming languages to gain almost universal use, and today you can program in C on almost any platform and machine. It was created by Dennis Ritchie in 1971, as the successor to the "B" compiler, for UNIX systems. C++ allows programmers to leverage their knowledge of C with the use Object Oriented (OO) concepts, to create larger programs with easier and with better quality. Since C++ contains all of the concepts of C, a C program can be run using a C++ compiler...but only a C++ compiler can compile a C++ program. It was created by Bjarne Stroustrup in 1980.

What is Java (tm)/ Javascript?

The Java (tm) language was created to allow a single program (and associated source code) to actually run on multiple platforms. It runs on more than 850 million PCs and billions of devices including mobile and TV devices.

The C++ Tutorial

Welcome to LearnCpp.com! LearnCpp.com is a totally free website devoted to teaching you to program in C++. Whether youve had any prior experience programming or not, the tutorials on this site will walk you through all the steps youll need to know in order to create and compile your programs. Becoming an expert programmer wont happen overnight, but with a little patience, youll get there. And LearnCpp.com will show you the way. The easiest way to learn any programming language is to read a book that teaches you the language or go to a website that provides you with tutorials. The reason for this is because it allows you to learn the programming language at your own pace. You can also use videos, but they are more suited to the pace of the person who created the video. I will give a list of the books and websites I used to learn C++. Websites: http://www.learncpp.com http://www.cprogramming.com http://www.cplusplus.com

Books: -Sam's teach yourself C++ in one hour a day -Beginning programming with C++ for dummies -A complete guide to programming in C++ -Beginning C++ through game programming 3rd edition -C++ GUI programming with QT4 Recommended "Beginner to Expert" books. You should read these books in the order they are listed. 1. C++ without fear 2. Practical C++ programming 3. Programming Pearls 4. Effective C++: 55 specific ways to improve your programs and designs 5. More effective C++: 35 new ways to improve your programs and designs 6. The C++ programming Language By Bjarne Stroustrup The last book is created by the creator of C++ himself. It is not really a beginners book, it does not have tutorials. It is an excellent reference book though (definitely the best reference book available for C++), so it is recommended that you get it when you already have experience with C++. If you want the pdf's for these books, you should be able to find them on one of the following site: http://www.freebookspot.me http://www.ebooksdownloadfree.com http://www.ebook3000.com For video tutorials, follow this link: http://www.intelligentedu.com/blogs/post For source code examples, look here: http://www.metalshell.com/ http://www.planet-source-code.com/ http://www.example-code.com/ After you have began learning C++, it is very important to get yourself involved in C++ forums, they can be very helpful, here is a list of forums on C++: www.cplusplus.com/forum/ www.codeguru.com/forum/ www.forums.codeblocks.org/ www.gidforums.com/f-28.html There are many more, all it requires is a simple google search! And finally, you need a compiler for C++. Here is a list of good and free compilers: -Codeblocks -Dev C++ -Microsoft Visual C++ Express

By the way, if you have never programmed before, you may find C++ a little difficult, if that is the case, you could try out an easier language like Java or Visual Basic first. Hope this helps. Source(s): Myself http://www.cprogramming.com/books.html I would suggest geting the for dummies book for c++ these tend to be very good introductions. if you do a web search for C++ tutorials you willl find a lot of tutorials online, I'd suggest looking through a few, I have found that different people describe things differently which can help understand things, also don't just do the examples and move on, try and make changes to improve, add things you learned before. Once you know a little I think its a good idea to look at code from small programs, work out what the bits do etc. It would also be a good Idea to think of a simple project you could aim for. You can learn most things at home, particuklarly programming languages The internet is excellent at providing examples of code, tutorials, excercises, etc I write software for a living and regularly lookup syntax / example online Jsut google "C++ tutorial" Such as http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/ or http://www.learncpp.com/

About the Sit te and the Fo ounder r

How it came about a Hi! My nam me is Ian Ippolito and I am m the founder and d creator of Planet Source e Code. The T idea for this site came to me back in n 1997, when w I began loo oking for Visual Ba asic sour rce code on the e Internet t. I was frustrate ed by the e lack of quantity of source e code, as well as the amo ount of time I had d to spen nd downlo oading .z zip files which w were of que estionable quality y and relevance to what I was s looking g for. I th hought it t would be b really useful if there wa as a site that allow wed me t to actually see the code before e I downloaded it t, and ma aybe eve en let me e copy and pa aste it fro om my browser to o VB, so I didn't h have to go g throug gh the ha assle of unzipping u it. Thu us www.Planet-Source-Co ode.com was born n. Back then sites that had database d es were V VERY rare e (maybe e a handf ful of them existed). e To put it in cont text, this s was bef fore most t browse ers suppo orted frames or e even tables. The prevailin ng web scriptin ng technology at the time e was CGI and Perl which require ed alot of patienc ce and tim me. How wever, wh hen I hea ard of a strange new to ool from Microsoft M t called Visual V Int terdev 1.0, I was intrigued enough e to plunk down d som me cash for it at CompU USA. Un nlike toda ay where e you can n't go to a book store with hout being inundate ed by web b develop pment bo ooks, the ere were no books on how to t use Vi isual Inte erdev 1.0 0 at that time. Fortun nately, th he docum mentation was ver ry good, and soon nI l dh i d b i ih b i f

months, I posted it to the Internet and started off the code database with about 2,000 lines of my own code. Right away I was amazed and excited by the fact that 50 or so people would come consistently to the site every day. As word of mouth spread the news about Planet Source Code, it began to grow bigger and bigger. Today, Planet Source Code has millions of lines of source code and averages more than 5 page views every second! Planet Source Code Milestones Among the many changes and milestones that Planet Source Code has gone through in it's rapid growth have been:

Database locking problems from so many users trying to access the site at one time, which forced upgrades from a Microsoft Access database back in 1997 to SQL Server 6.5 in 1998, and SQL Server 7.0 in 1999. Reaching the 100,000 lines of code mark in early 1999. Reaching the 500,000 lines of code mark in February 2000. Receiving so many hits that we had to cancel our bandwidth restricted account with an external ISP and move the servers in-house in March 2000. Traffic increasing so rapidly that we had to purchase a second T1 in June 2000. Traffic growing again and going up to 6 T1s in June 2001. Reaching the 14,000,000 lines of code mark in early 2009. Reaching the 29,000,000 lines of code mark in early 2013.
