Assessment Task Name: One Functional Art/ Appropriation
Marks: 20 Marks

Context
In term one student’s have been studying Appropriation in modern art.
Students will:
1) Describe artworks and their new meanings.
2) Explains the art periods in which the artist worked in
3) Discuss the events and influences, which led to the artworks, new appropriated image.
Description of activity
(Checklist: tick the boxes once you complete your assessments making sure all aspects of task
have been completed effectively.)
In order to undertake this task you will need to:
1. Indentify and research:
• Two artworks
• The artists that created the artworks
Your researched artworks can be from any period in art history as you will appropriate these
artworks in your painting/functional piece.
2. Draw
• The two artworks in full colour in your Visual Arts Process Diary.
3. Create
• A frame study for each artwork in your VAPD.
4. Prime/undercoat
• wooden piece of furniture
5. Sketch
• your appropriated artwork on a functional piece of art.
6. Apply
• Oil paint and create artwork

• awareness of the conventions and practice of oil painting demonstrated through the
selection and refinement of painting techniques and resolution of their artwork.
• understanding of the structural frame in the organisation of the composition and the
manipulation of visual qualities such as colour, line, scale, tone and shape to create signs
and symbols to communicate ideas of an their artwork.
• understanding of the postmodern frame in the organisation of how original artworks have
been appropriated as students investigate the world as a sources of ideas. concepts and
subject matter. Shows evidence of personal exploration in self-expression.
• awareness of relationships between the agencies of the conceptual framework in
communicating ideas on the appropriated subject matter to an audience.

Date and sign your submission sheet at the back of your school diary and hand
it to your teacher.
Have present your Visual Arts Process Diary on the due date as it is also apart
of the marking process.
