The Swinton Technology ST500 Dual Pulse Signal Generator has been designed to facilitate the testing and commissioning of frequency based measurement systems.
The unit generates representative dual pulse signals suitable for testing in accordance with: IP 252/76 Part XIII Fidelity and Security of Measurement Data Transmission Systems ISO 6551 Petroleum Liquids and Gases Fidelity and Security of Dynamic Measurement Cabled Transmission of Electronic and/or Electronic Pulsed Data API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, Chapter 5, Section 5 - Fidelity and Security of Flow Measurement Pulsed- Data Transmission Systems This unit is one of a range of new generation simulators designed to meet the requirements for checking and calibrating fiscal and custody transfer flow computer systems. This range combines up-to-date microprocessor and Direct Digital Synthesis technology with easy to use menu driven LCD operation. The units are mains/battery powered for convenience and are supplied with a comprehensive set of leads and adaptors for easy connection in all test environments.

SPECIFICATION
Outputs are arranged as four discrete channels each with six 4mm sockets. Display Keyboard Outputs 128 x 64 pixel graphic blue/white LCD with white LED backlight. Sixteen high quality discrete keys covered with a tough textured polyester overlay. Rear panel outputs are arranged as four discrete channels, each with six 4mm sockets. Each channel has a switch enabling the dual pulse outputs to be configured as differential 12 V or current pedestal. Failure modes, as selected using the operator interface, (e.g. Line A Fail) directly control the line outputs. +/- 12 V differential line driven outputs simulate the outputs from Spectra-Tek F106/IS106/VS300 pre-amplifiers. Current pedestal outputs are intended to simulate the outputs from commonly used preamplifiers (notably FaureHermann) and allow the simulator to be connected directly to 24 V loop powered panel terminals. The output is passive opto-coupled and typically provides a 3 mA 15 mA signal when powered from a 24 V supply with 300R source impedance. 1 Hz to 10KHz 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 degrees 6 digits Crystal stability +/- 30ppm over operating temperature range. Typical short term @ 10kHz: Over 1000 readings Std Dev <0.05nSec Over 12 hours <0.2nSec Two front panel 50 ohm BNC connectors provide 0-5V logic level outputs to allow connection of other equipment e.g. oscilloscope or timer counter. An internal rechargeable Nickel-Hydride battery provides typically 8 hours usage and simplifies use in the field (subject to safe working environment). An external supply allows operation from 115/230 V ac.

USER INTERFACE
The combination of a detailed graphic LCD and keyboard provides a comprehensive set of menu driven displays, resulting in simple operation.

OPERATION MODES
The signal generator may be run in either a continuous mode or in batch mode to deliver a preset number of batch pulses. The phase angle between the two pulses may be varied to simulate different meter pickup arrangements. Various line and pickup fail options are provided including allowing each line to be independently failed and 1 in 10 of each lines pulses to be missed. Provision of current pedestal in addition to differential voltage outputs greatly simplifies panel connection for certain turbine types.

ACCESSORIES
The unit is supplied with a unique set of high quality leads designed to allow easy connection in all normal test environments. The basic set allows direct connection to panel terminals, 2 mm socket terminals, 4 mm test terminals and free wires. Two coax cables are also supplied: BNC/BNC and BNC/bootlace ferrule/4 mm plugs. Note: These cables and connectors are for low voltage use only and must not be used for any applications exceeding 50V.
