Judge: Michael Grady is a former department chair and professor of

studio art at Appalachian State University. Professor Grady is an exhibiting
artist, writer and educator. He has exhibited his paintings and lectured in
Germany, New Zealand, China and throughout the U.S. Grady has a
special interest and expertise in spirituality and art, expressive arts therapy
and Asian philosophy and culture. He grew up in South Carolina, but lived
for three decades in New York and San Francisco before relocating, in
2008, to his ancestral homeland in North Carolina.

THEME: Artwork must relate to Southern history and culture, i.e.: landscapes,
historical sites, people, events, still life and scenes of our past. All entries should
reflect the theme. This is an open show.
ELIGIBILITY: Artists eighteen years and older are eligible. All work must be
original, completed within the last two years. All artwork must remain for the
duration of the exhibit. This is a judged exhibit. All entries will be displayed
unless they do not meet the criteria as specified in this prospectus.
FEE: (non-refundable) $20 members, $25 non-members, for two entries.
Additional entries $5 each for members, $10 each for non-members (4 total)
SALES and PRICING: SASi will retain 30% Commission from all sales by
Members, and 40% from all sales by Non-members. If not for sale, please list
work as NFS.
SPECIFICATIONS: Two-dimensional work is restricted to 48" by 48" including
frame. Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel), drawing, sculpture, jewelry,
printmaking, photography, mixed media and fiber are eligible. All work must be
original, completed within the last two years. Works on paper (including
photography) must be protected by glass or Plexiglas and framed. All work must
be properly framed or gallery wrapped (sides properly finished), and wired for
hanging. Mats must be neat and clean (no signatures or titles on the mat). Fiber
art must be ready to hang, preferably with rod supplied by the artist. Threedimensional work is limited to 2'x2' of floor space, less than 6' tall and weigh less
than 150 lbs. Three-D work must sit solidly on a flat surface or be properly mounted
for hanging.
The following will NOT be accepted: wet paint or inks, duplicates, giclees or
copies.
Unacceptable framing includes: clip frames, saw-tooth hangers, staples or tape.
All work must be presented in a professional manner. Inadequately prepared work
will not be considered for exhibit.
PICK UP OF ART: Artwork must be picked up on the scheduled date. Artwork left
beyond 30 days will become property of Southern Arts Society.
LIABILITY: Southern Arts Society (SASI) accepts no responsibility for any loss or
damage of artwork.
Concerned artists should provide their own insurance
coverage. SASI reserves the right to decline any works that do not meet our
standards or specifications and to withdraw any work from the exhibition at its
discretion. SASI reserves the right to photograph and reproduce any entry
submitted for educational, marketing, or publicity purposes only. Entry in the
exhibition constitutes agreement by the artist with all conditions set forth in this
prospectus.
