It is single lane and is a secondary means of escape in a ditching. If used the primary opens the door, ensures inflation, releases the slide from the aircraft, directs the passengers to step into the water and swim to the nearest floatation device. Ordinarily in a ditching doors 3 are guarded by the primary who repeats fit your life jackets, theyre under your seat, high heels off and when the first evacuation call is made, direct passengers to that exit, go forward or go backward -300 has type A doors at all exits (1,2, 3 and 4) A door opened from the outside will automatically disarm. PASSENGER OXYGEN SERVICE UNIT PSUs should only drop when cabin exceeds 14,000 AMSL, or the PSU service door is manually opened. Lasts 15 minutes. Pulling any one oxy mask activates the whole PSU. There are pax oxy service units at all passenger seats, crew seats, in toilets. There are none in the galley (during a depressurisation crew in the galley must sit in a crew seat, a passenger seat or wedge themselves between the passenger seats and put on an oxy mask. * PSUs cannot be shutoff or reset once started. * PSUs contain one more mask than the number of seats they serve (ie catering for infants or faulty/leaky masks. Green flow indicator or bag inflation confirms oxygen flow. DECOMPRESSION

Toxic when used in confined spaces. When used on the flight deck, first don oxy mask with diluter set to 100% Use on flammable liquid and electrical fires. OK for fabric and paper fires. Not to be used on class D burning metal (magnesium or sodium) fires. When using on a liquid fire, dont stand too close may spread the fire. Dont allow the metal body of the extinguisher to come onto contact with electrical wires. Operation flick up red thumb catch ,press trigger, 1 -2 m range, hold within 60 degrees of down angle, aim at base of fire and sweep motion. Dont get too close to liquid fires. Soak embers or unburnt material in water. Lasts 10 seconds minimum DME TORCH Serviceability lock-wired & red light blinking. Pulling it out of the mount turns it on. Last 4 hours Cant turn it off except by putting back in the mount. Can, however, disconnect the battery to save power for later (unscrew the end in pull off connector). PERSONAL BREATHING EQUIPMENT PURITAN BENNET PBE Serviceability foil pack vacuum seal intact (tamper prevention red seals are for security, not serviceability) Single use. Operation: * remove glasses * remove PBE from container * remove from vac pack and shake out * place both hands in neck hole and place over head * contain long hair within the mask seal * ensure seal of mouthpiece * pull straps sharply forward to start oxy canister * a surge of oxygen for about 20 seconds will ensue to clear the mask * exhaling sharply also starts the burner * pull straps back to tighten mask * lasts minimum 15 minutes (maybe 20-25 mins in reality) * expect neck to get hot after time * when breathing becomes difficult oxy generation finished After use: * dont use water to cool the canister * keep away form flame * put in a toilet on the floor and block toilet. An empty cart is OK. FIRE FIGHTING The first crew member to observe a fire/smoke must obtain the nearest BCF and fight the fire. Stay low and locate the source. Crash axe (point) may be used to pry away panels to look for fire or gain access for BCF. Turn off electrical switching eg. galley power. Call or signal another crew member who becomes the communicator. If PBE is required a third cabin crew member fits PBE, obtains another extinguisher and fights replaces the first fire fighter. Pax oxy masks should not be deployed when there is smoke in the cabin unless the cabin altitude is above 14,000 Move pax away from fire/smoke area. Communications call should be an all stations. Inform Captain of: * location * intensity * fire or smoke * type of fire (eg. electrical, chemical, material) * type of smoke (colour, smell, density) * fire fighting effectiveness When the fire is out thoroughly soak all burnt non-electrical material Smoke in the cabin avoid opening the cockpit door unless absolutely necessary.

QRH smoke, smoke removal checklist. EMERGENCY BEACON Serviceability: present RESCU 99: 121.5 MHz and 243 MHz RESCU 406 (as installed): as above plus 406.025 MHZ (satellite) Lower two frequencies transmit for at least 48 hours.
