USER INFORMATION: This solution is ready for use and requires no extra preparation. Though not necessary, this solution can be reautoclaved. If precipitants form, warm solution to 37C to resuspend. LiCl precipitation is very useful following RNA isolation or in vitro transcription because RNA is efficiently precipitated, while free NTPs, RNA molecules smaller than 200 bases, protein, and DNA are very inefficiently precipitated or are not precipitated at all. To precipitate RNA in a solution with 400 ng/l or greater RNA concentration, bring the final concentration of LiCl in the RNA solution to 2.5 M, chill the solution at -20C for 30 minutes, and centrifuge at top speed in a microcentrifuge for 15 minutes. Discard the supernatant and wash the pellet with ice-cold 70% EtOH to remove residual salt, then resuspend in nuclease-free H2O or TE.
