Candidate pledges to bring Strong, Conservative Leadership and bold, new ideas as county commissioner. (Murfreesboro)- Phil Griffin has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for the 7th District Commissioner position on the Rutherford County Commission. He is the first and currently only candidate to announce intent to seek the Republican nomination. The current incumbent commissioner is Gary Farley (Independent). Our county needs vibrant, innovative ideas to stay a great place to raise a family and build a business. Im running to advocate for our countys growth through small government, fewer business regulations, and committed fiscal responsibility, said Griffin as he declared his intent. Im concerned about making sure our county remains a great place to grow and prosper for our children, including my son and nephew. Im a lifelong conservative Republican, and as a county commissioner I will bring new leadership and new ideas and be completely accessible to my constituents. Phils leadership experience and extensive community involvement give him a unique perspective into the opportunities and challenges facing Rutherford County. He has experience in developing and guiding organizational and community development, having served as the President of the Starkville Library Board of Trustees and Director of Mississippi State University-City of Starkville Relations while attending Mississippi State University. Phil currently serves his local community as a Board Member of the Barfield Elementary PTO, and is a member of both the Murfreesboro Kiwanis Club and Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. Griffins political involvement augments his understanding of the need for effective, principled political leadership for Rutherford Countys future. Griffin graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Political Science. For the past ten years, he has helped ensure conservative Republican ideals are well represented at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the South. A former legislative intern to U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, he also served as Chairman of the Mississippi State University College Republicans while attending MSU. In addition, while pursuing education in Mississippi he served as an Executive Committee Member of the Oktibbeha County Republican Party. Griffin continues to stay involved in county politics through the Rutherford County Republican Party and Rutherford County Young Republicans. As county commissioner, Phil plans to promote greater government transparency and accountability. He will advocate for reduced spending, oppose new business regulations, and seek increased constituent involvement. Specifically, he is interested in exploring budget cuts and other strategic decisions for project and public funding. Another top policy priority is proposing regulation of fire sprinkler systems for strategic county land development. Phil is married to Connie Griffin and they have a seven-year-old son, Toller. They are active members of Middle Tennessee Baptist Church. Phil and Connie look forward to speaking with constituents about their concerns, and offering a vision of new ideas and new leadership for our future. ###
