What are Price Books?


New feature in R12. Self service capability for customers (and you) to generate a published list of products and their related prices. Provides for dates, customer specific information, and qualifier attributes. Multiple publishing options (RTF, Excel or PDF) Can create a delta price list and/or full price list. Multiple communication methods.

Benefits of Price Books


Self-Service. Nice listing of prices and discounts out of the box without customization required. Multiple publishing options (RTF, Excel or PDF). Can create a delta price list and/or full price list. Track pricing changes.

Who Would Use Price Books and Why?


Customer Service customers often want a full listing of their list & net prices. This is an out of the box solution to publish a listing. Sales / Product Managers review existing prices, create a hard copy of current pricing. Review future pricing and the delta between current and future pricing. Customers self-service capability to generate and publish a listing of their products and related prices.

Setup Required
Define profiles for price book. Verify seeded parameters. Setup default printer and e-mail server. Setup XML Publisher and XML Gateway. Setup price book user interface (optional). Modify report template.

Profile Options
QP: Pricing Perspective Request Type
Defines the mapping between the pricing perspective (calling application) and the Request Type calling the price book.

QP: Internal Default Pricing Perspective


Sets the default pricing perspective for all internal users using the price book feature. Defaults to the pricing perspective field in the Create Price Book flow.

QP: External Default Pricing Perspective


Sets the default pricing perspective for all EXTERNAL users using the price book feature. This can be set at the user level as well. Defaults to the pricing perspective field in the create customer price book flow.

QP: Inbound XML Messaging Responsibility
Defines the responsibility context for an inbound XML message request for a price book (get catalog XML message.)

QP: Email From Address


Defines the default senders from e-mail when a price book is e-mailed.

XML Publisher and XML Gateway


XML Publisher
Allows for various formats in publishing. Delivery server component is required to publish to a printer or email attachment. Layout can be modified to meet business requirements.

XML Gateway
Use to transmit price book information to Trading Partner. 2 APIs are provided. Used to receive and transmit the price book.

Will display multiple categories if item is in more than one category

Create Delta
Price book is republished not regenerated
The original one remains the same.

All publishing options are available

Delta Price Book

Change pricing date to create what if scenario. Communicate future pricing.

Delta Report
Shows only items with changes relative to the new pricing date.
Only new or changed items will display in the report.

Enter new effective date. A full price book can have only one delta. If the original price book is deleted, the delta book will also be deleted.

A Couple of Notes
Dont need to setup XML Gateway / Publisher in order to start using the feature (internally). Can also use a test instance to preview what if pricing scenarios. Selecting a price list does not default pricing based on secondary price list. Does not default customer price lists (need to select). All items option finds items on any price list.

Summary
Price book is new in to R12. Allows reporting of list and net prices. Supports multiple publishing options and reports. Great tool for providing greater pricing insight.
