CourseOverview: Thiscourseisdesignedtodevelopmusicalskillsthatwillleadtoathorough understandingofmusiccompositionandmusictheory.Theemphasiswillbeonthe rulesoftheoryandcomposition,eartraining,sightsinging,scoreanalysis,andkeyboard skills.Whilethemainemphasisisplacedonmusicofthecommonperiod(16001750), musicofotherstylisticperiodswillalsobestudied.Studentsarepreparedtotakethe APMusicTheoryExamwhentheyhavecompletedthecourse.Studentsplanningto majorinmusicincollegemaybeabletoenrollinanadvancedmusictheorycourse, dependingonindividualcollegesAPpolicies.
